We still need a backup qb for 2017

No joke, I can't imagine going into next year with Sanchez as the back up. If Romo leaves. ..then what?

What real options do we have?
Trade Romo to Cincy for Dalton and a #5. He is ready for the backup stage of his career right about now

That $5m has to go partly to a back-up QB. It's a few million at best, and for the quality difference, it's worth it. The problem is Romo won't want to do it.

Exactly. People are thinking we're gonna make bank by flipping Romo after this season. We'll probably be the ones getting the short end of the stick. We'll probably get a 4th round pick and save $5 million in cap space, then we'll have to spend that $5 million on a backup QB who's nowhere near Romo's level. Then all we'll have to show for the Romo years is a 4th round pick and a new liability at backup QB. On the other hand, a team like New England can get much more for Garrapolo because he's young. And they already have a young backup on their roster who they drafted this year so what they get in return for Garrapolo will be a net gain.

A 17 million dollar back up, no thank you.
On CBS earlier today Jimmy Johson stated the cowboys would only save 5 million dollars by letting Romo go. He also said ikeeping Romo is worth the 5 million. I believe Romo stays.

Will Jameill Showers get another chance to see what he can do as a back up? Just throwing his name out there. He is still on the practice squad.

Going to ignore the draft pick art of the conversation? We should not release Romo. We should absolutely trade him.

Then our defense stays the same.

He is counting against the cap whether he is in Dallas or not. May be worth it for 2017 and then move on in 2018 when that dead money cap hit goes down considerably.
No, it would add 14M to keep him vs cut or trade him. About 5M of that is in 2017 and 9M in 2018.

Wow, the cupboard really is bare.

Sanchez had a bad game, but he didn't ever really get a chance to get into any kind of rhythm. He's still more than capable with our starters.

Heck, I'd be willing to say that Kellen Moore could at least go .500 with Zeke, Dez, Beasley, Witten, and our OL.

Only one I sort of like is Glennon, and that's not saying much.

Extremely doubtful we keep Romo as a backup.
