While the draft is always a would have, could have, should have event, there is debate surrounding the selection of Tolbert with the #88 overall pick when you look at some others:

Seattle took CB Tariq Woolen #153: he is 6' 4" 210 pound athletic CB that fell to the 5th round and all he has done is 17 tackles, 3 INT's, 4 PD's, 1 FR, 1 blocked kick

Houston took RB Dameon Pierce #107: an underused RB in Florida he has 86 carries, 412 rushing yards, 13 catches, 53 receiving yards, 3 total TD's...which is better overall than Zeke
And the Cowboys are 5 and 2 and 4th in the power rankings according to the Athletic. The Cowboys are good.

He will become a big part of this team eventually we can speed up his timetable. MM is and has always been good at finding Wrs, I am going off of his track record in Green Bay.

Funny thing is all the 3rd round WR’s from this past draft have had slow starts. Not one had produced consistently yet if at all.

Bottom line is I don’t think we made an egregious scouting error, let’s see how he develops.

I get everyone's responses, but how are you going to learn and improve if you don't even step on the field even 1 time? So we used a costly 3rd round pick to contribute next year in 2023, not this year? Is this what 3rd round picks today are supposed to be used for even though we need the help at WR right now?
I agree, I understand WRs take time to develop a lot of times. Yes, Irvin wasn't great right off, Gallup did take time- the difference is they both dressed and played though. Tolbert isn't even doing that.

Cowboys used a costly 3rd round pick on WR Jalen Tolbert. Fans were told Jalen Tolbert was looking great and would be a big part of this 2022 Cowboys offense.

We're in Week 8 and at the end of October. Where is Jalen Tolbert? He's been inactive most of the past 7 games. When is he going to play and be a part of this season? The Cowboys offense is struggling, has several receivers injured and is in need of some help.

Where's the beef? Where's the help? Where is our costly 3rd round draft pick?

Why do fans hate some players a love other players that have not contributed?

Jabril Cox..."coaches are idiots for not playing him".

Tolbert..."He sucks".

Agreed. Frustrating thing is Washington won't be ready for another 2 weeks. He has yet to see the field this 2022 season due to training camp injury.

But, Jalen Tolbert? Why can't he get on the field even for 1 play? He's our costly 3rd round pick. Heck, even an undrafted WR in Dennis Houston was able to make the team and play the first 2 games even though he was cut afterwards to create another roster spot for another position in need. Yet, Tolbert has remained on the 53 man roster but stayed inactive?

That's horrible, especially when our receiving crew needs help.
He played 23 snaps vs NYG.

The Cowboys have made blocking by WRs a much bigger part of their plan than in past years. Copying the he Rams who have made WR blocking an integral part of their offense the past few years.

The Cowboys have even used Turpin as a blocker and he had some quality reps doing it.

They had a big run by Pollard in one game with Brown/Fehoko at WR and Hendershot/Ferguson at TE. Is looked like a 4 TE alignment.

I don't expect a 3rd rounder to take over the league either however, by way of comparison, I looked at Gallup's 2018 rookie season first 7 games to compare "like for like" given they are both 3rd rounders (Gallup picked at 81 and Tolbert at 88)

Michael Gallup 10 receptions, 180 yards, 1 TD (interestingly game 7 was his "breakout" with 71 yards and a TD)
Jalen Tolbert 1 reception, 4 yards

7 games is a small sample size but a sample nonetheless and that is a big difference in iimpact.

I guess its important to note that Gallup also finished the season strong and even had his first 100 yard game in the playoffs in his rookie year

Gallup wont be right till next year. Tolbert looks lost in the small amount of work I've seen from him during the regular season.

Nothing to do with this thread but I would like to point out for the heck of it that Jalen is considered a speedster that runs a 4.49 40 at 6'1 200 pounds, while Micah Parsons runs a 4.39 40 at 6'3 245. Unbelievable. That's all I wanted to say. Carry on....

GO COWBOYS!!

Interesting word is the Cowboys are looking at trading for a WR with JW and Simi set to return from injury in a few weeks. Tolbert not getting to play is concerning. Does this team believe in these 3 WRs?

They believe if the cards fall right, they can get good value like Mims for a 6th round pick.

The Cowboys also got Bland and Clark in the late mid rounds and Ferguson in the 4th. They got Davis our Flordia running back as an UDFA and also added other quality UDFAs as well.

How did you conclude that? It’s stupid to question a rookie WR who missed time in training camp. Just dumb.
Tolbert still practiced during training camp. He still played during the preseason. Why hasn't he gotten on the field during the regular season? We are on Week 8! Heck, even an undrafted rookie WR played during Weeks 1 & 2, but our 3rd round pick was placed on the inactive list? Any fan has every right to question what is going on with Tolbert. Zip it with your "dumb" responses.

Who is saying Tolbert sucks? We're simply questioning what is going on and why he as a costly 3rd round pick has not gotten on the field, even placed as inactive in most games, yet a rookie undrafted WR played both Week 1 & 2 games? We fans have every right to question what is going on.

Well it is dumb. I could list dozens of rookie WR’s who did nothing on their rookie year who went on to be Hall of Famers.

Even if he was ready playbook wise, he wasn't going to get many opportunities the way we are running our offense this season so far. We've been running much more and using more 2 TE sets. If anything, you can say Hendershot has taken away Tolbert's snaps due to our current offense and the fact Hendershot looks more ready.
