I'm not excusing anything. If Watt turns out better than Taco, which certainly looks possible, it deserves to be called out. I was advocating for Carl Lawson and he resembles Watt more than he does Taco (as far as scheme fit).No, I'm not taking offense. Nothing personal. I just have no patience for people trying to excuse the Watt selection based on scheme. Nothing more than that. And I'm willing to reserve judgement on the Taco-Watt debate. I just don't want to hear about the scheme nonsense. Watt has everything necessary to play here and there's nothing tangible anybody can point to otherwise.
That's my issue. Nothing more.
But I disagree with you that scheme is nonsense. It matters more than most people give credit for. Look at Paea as a prime example. Or Tapper.
That's not to say great players can't be moved into different schemes and still produce. But you can't say it means nothing. And if you grade two players closely in talent then you should absolutely consider scheme fit (for the record I've never said Watt can't play 4-3 DE).
