What a difference a HC makes, Chip Kelly

He came in and took a team from last to first, changed their identity, play calling and the most important thing, their wins. Yet here we are with the same HC for 3.5 years, at 8-8 but look at the positives, we play hard, we have been one win away from winning the division 3 straight years, remember, we are rebuilding, give Garrett a couple of more years and we will get to the playoffs.
Chip Kelly took over a really talented team, just like Reid in KC or Pagano in Indy or Harbaugh in SF or Rivera in Carolina or McCoy in SD or Carroll in Seattle, you know what I mean? they were just lucky.
Nobody rebuilds a team like Garrett does, nobody. SMH.

You mean Chip Kelly didnt have a 5 year plan to get over 500?

How can this be?

I have been told that even the great Landry needed a decade to compete and that nobody can expect any coach to be successful quicker than Landry..........we must have patience with young Garrett............but how can others succeed so quick?

I am so confused now.

Right, that is what I meant. Obviously McCoy is a great back and Kelly isn't going to ignore him. But Foles started to pucker up as the game went on (which earlier he wasn't doing, but he got tight as the game went on) and Kelly was smart enough to see that and shift to much more running to protect his young QB. A couple of those drives late in the game were almost exclusively running, which is pretty rare in this day.

I agree. We lack that identity and flow on offense. Why we go to the air with 2 minutes left in the half with all 3 of our time outs and the ball at the 50 is beyond me. Orton throws a pick and the Eagles go down and score a quick TD. We get to their 20 after a HUGE turnover when Foles fumbled and we start throwing these dump off passes and basically waste another golden opportunity. 4th and short at the Eagles 40 and close to FG range and call a pass play. We had our shots in this game and this is where we are so handicapped at the HC position.

If we'd driven the ball on that final drive and he missed the postseason not taking a four point lead when he should have, nobody'd be praising his play calling tonight, that's for sure.

I thought second guessing wasn't fair to coaches :)

It's been like that all year with them. Teams scheme to stop McCoy and Foles picks them apart. When they scheme to stop Foles McCoy, Brown and the other dude run wild. It's called balance and something our coaches don't take advantage of enough.

So everybody is discounting the Eagles winning this year because they only beat 2 teams all season that ended above 500.

Well Garrett is what, 4-22 against teams over 500 in almost 4 seasons as head coach?

Well Garrett can tune in from his couch this weekend and watch Chip Kelly and the unimpressive Eagles hosting a playoff game..................in year 1................we are at 3.5 and still counting just to post a winning record.............LOL

How much of the Eagles' "turnaround" was really because of Chip Kelly, and how much was just 2012 being an aberration for a franchise that had only had one other losing season since 2000? Does anyone honestly think Andy Reid couldn't have gone 10-6 with the same roster and schedule?

you are always in here defending every idiotic move made by jerry and jason

if what kelly did in his first year is so unimpressive, how can you defend a HC that has not even done that much in 3.5 years?

No I'm not. LOL you sound delusional

Our LT is as close as one can be to being an all pro without it being done.

And if our running back was TURNED LOOSE he would receive plenty of all pro votes.

And we certainly have a qb who exhibits all pro qualities.

I cannot understand our propensity for denigrating teams, players and in this instance a coach who has just out coached us.

You mean the guy who fumbled in scoring position on a average hit?

That guy?

I don't understand the constant need to pump everyone up who isn't a cowboy.

Last year it was bob this year it's chip.

The eagles won good for them but let's not go overboard and proclaim them the next great team.

Who said Kelly was a genius?

Their players made more plays than Dallas did? NO way!!!

Who calls Kelly a genius?

Have you read this thread?

Spurrier stormed the league in his first year. This isn't college. Teams adapt. Heck, teams are already watching film on them.

Next year will be rough for Chippy. He'll be run out of town. Along with his boyfriend who he makes stay home in New Hampshire and not talk to anyone.

Spurrier stormed the league with a 7-9 record??? Chip took a 4 win team and made it a 10 win team and won the division, the point is that a good HC can do that, we have an awful HC.

Garrett didn't take over a OL with 2 1st rounders and dependable Frank Gore, the O-line was gutted the same year he took over and Felix Jones was the starter by default. It's a fact that this team didn't start rebuilding till the first year he took over nothing like those teams. Theres just no comparing the talent on those teams to what Garrett has had. I know how you feel watching the losses and some of the things that helped bring on those losses but this was an old team when Garrett took over. Not tryin to argue with you because I know how it sucks but he just didn't get a good team coming out the gate.

They've been running the ball ALL YEAR. That have the best rushing team in football and it's because of one Sean McCoy. Without him they aren't our equal and Kelly is a failure.

Plus they had a healthy line all season. According to announcer last night. Keep injuries away good things happen

At some point he has to win, look around the NFL today and the last 4 years, every other coach in the NFL needs to win to keep his job, not here, not Garrett because his players like him, they play hard for him and we've had a ton of injuries. it seems that we are the only team with injuries, every other team is healthy, smh.
Excuses, excuses and more excuses, he is just an awful HC, I can tell you this, every other team in the NFC east and the NFC for that matter should be jumping for joy that we are sticking with this guy for another year and probably many more.
Take a look at this list and show me a HC that with at least 3.5 years as HC and with equally terrible results, the only one I could find is Munchack (then again he doesn't have Romo, Dez, Witten, Ware, Lee etc.) and he'll probably get fired, or take a look at what new HC have done with their respective teams.

In the NFL, you win or you are out of a job, plain and simple, except of course with the Dallas Cowboys, this truly is a dream job, you can be mediocre and win millions of dollars, beautiful just beautiful.

Me. The Eagles franchise made so many changes outside of just coaching. Kelly changed the way they prepare themselves for the season, the way they practice, the way they eat, and exercise. The owner stripped Reid from evaluating talent in 2012, and from 2012 their free-agent acquisitions have improved, drafting has improved, and the teaching aspect of players resurfaced. Andy Reid's biggest weakness was personnel decisions. If he stayed they would have been a very different team this year.
That's why our situation is so depressing. The guy that makes the decisions will still be making them, and the guy coaching the players will still be coaching. It's just depressing.

Any statement worded with loaded words is problematic. Make a quick assessment. Your agenda is showing.

The Eagles won the division and teams are going to be afraid of them. They don't game plan Foles except to pressure him and get what you saw last night. But he has one of the greatest QBR of all time in a season so he must be great. See; anyone can spin things. They game plan and fear McCoy who is probably the leagues second most valuable player behind Peyton Manning. If you want to throw in Brees, Rivers (this year), and Brady ahead of him I won't argue. Romo either. Point is with this guy and a QB who protects the ball as well as a good supporting cast and decent defense you are going to have problems playing them. If we had a better defense teams would be fearing us rather than them.

Kelly hasn't done anything magical this year. He did a really good job with a reasonably talented team and a great player and got a phenomenal year out of Foles which you likely won't see again. He did a good job this year. I respect what he did. Last year's team was not quite this talented and this one came on with Kendricks playing like an All Pro and the above. They will not likely win the SB and I doubt they even beat NO although they have a decent shot playing Brees outside esp if the weather is bad.
