The Jones’ have proven again that they have absolutely no clue when it comes to trades, the salary cap, signing free agents, retaining those players who you can “afford” to keep and restructure etc. etc. etc. This year as with last season were going to be the “all in” years of offseason deals and player acquisitions! Last season they didn’t sign Dak or CD until the 11th hour in August with deals they could have made earlier in the year, say March and had they done so, they would have cleared up over 20 Million in CAP space. Looking back they obviously were going to retain CD which cost them 8-9 milllion in CAP space and CD acknowledged that he wasn’t asking for more earlier in the year than later. Dak’s signing on the other hand was the biggest f-up of Dallas Cowboys history! If they were going to keep him, sign him early and along with signing CD, 20 million in CAP space could have bought Derrick Henry, or possibly Saquon, or Josh Jacob’s, or Aaron Jones etc. etc. plus still have had over 10 million for possibly another lineman, a linebacker, DB, whatever!! By waiting to the last minute on Dak, all of the experts presumed the Cowboys would pay him for 1 last season and be done with him, unless he led them to a NFC Championship or Super Bowl? But alas, after a terrible season, they make him the highest paid player in NFL history AND to double down on it, they re-structure his contract again this year which will now pay Dak until he’s 75 years old! (Easy, it’s a joke)! Which brings us to today, the first day to sign 2025vfree agents and kaboom, we sign another RB with 4 years off of the tires! FYI, a RB’s lifespan in the NFL is 3 1/2 years! . I wish Javonte Williams the very best, I really do but if this is what is ahead in the “all in moves” for the Cowboys, nothing will change other than we will be a team that will be worse off for many, many years to come…
Thank you Jerry……………………….Idiot!

Yep, and you could add the perplexing strategy (if indeed there is one):

  • 2024 season - where he had the ideal opportunity to either: All-In (a last hurrah behind the re-signing of Tyron, Pollard, Gilmore, Hankins + FA spending), OR tear-it-down and trade: Osa, Martin, J-Lew, D-Law. Let Dak play out the last year of contract.....as there was no other QB that was going to up the top market value.
  • why create $50m CAP space in 2025.....for no apparent purpose?

There arent many Day 2+ signings that are going to equate to $10m hits on the 2025..... and in any case, he could of restructured existing contracts AFTER the FA signing.

I suspect he restructured the $50m to hoodwink the fanbase into thinking he was going to spend.

Just because they are now starters, doesn't mean they are good starters. None of them would be starters for Ohio State this year. I think that is the stark reality in Cowboys world.
These Ohio cowboys team leaves no stones unmatched

For any aspiring sports agents... Best way to get the Jones Boys to notice your free agent? Offer a minimum salary with millions in incentive bonus.

Let us be mediocre. Work the draft. Dance around the edges if at all with FA and trades. That is the Jones recipe.

To their credit they do a good job drafting. They hit a lot. Sure they miss on some. But all in all drafting is their strength.

But in today's NFL it takes more than the draft to win big time. You must work the FA market and pursue trades for quality players. Sure, just like drafting, there will be misses. But a team must try. Take the good hits with the bad misses. Cannot be timid like Jones and son.

It is akin to playing golf with just your putter. No how good you are at putting you must use all or most of the clubs if you are going to score and win.

Team has become an absolute joke. We’ve been lapped by mediocre teams. We have one of if not the worst front office in professional sports.
Resign yourself to the fact that Jerry and his family are not really interested in anything more than the status quo.

Were you on vacation?

Which means nothing.
It does mean something - it means that they are very thin at a position where they are now going to have to put more resources - sounds like they were caught off guard with Lewis leaving unfortunately...that is going to force them to spend draft capital or make a fa move they had not planned on
