If me or you or most normal people were in charge yes college coaches would be included in the search. I don't remember Jerry ever interviewing a college coach post jimmy.

Valid, but, after the dick move he just pulled with Mike and Chicago, he may have to. Coaches talk and, unless he is going to extend Mike, it was a low move by him. Coaches talk to each other, so he's either going to get someone desperate or a low quality coach if he wants to stay in the pros. He probably wants the former anyway. However, otherwise, he won't have a choice.

Sark play-calling is a head scratcher at times. Second and 3 from about mid-field with near 5 1/2 minutes left and a 2 TD lead and he calls a deep pass. I guess you, as a play caller, have to trust that your veteran QB knowns better than to throw that ball into double coverage. But run the ball, burn the clock and take 2 good chances to get a new set of downs and burn more clock.
Yes he's a little bit more aggressive because he trusts his defense but I wouldn't call that a bad call it was an aggressive call it was just trying to put the game away with one throw but that's the thing it wasn't technically double covered the guy was open kind of like Mingo was I don't know if it was the last game that Cooper rush missed the throw the guy was open but how long can you stay open with a bad throw same thing happened in the last game with Lance the one on the sideline I can't remember who was open but they were coming open I think it was tolbert but by the time they threw the ball the ball was overthrown to a point where it ran the receiver into the safety no longer open and it was not a very good throw..

That interception by Quinn you're talking about it was under throat hell yeah I could go through all that whole game and tell you how Quinn's not pro ready his balls are not thrown very well he has a weird release but in that case the whole game until overtime he was under throwing the ball even the touchdown early in the game go look at it guys open balls in the air receiver has to slow down to a point where then he has to kind of put his hands back behind him to get the ball and then get into the end zone that ball was also under thrown it wasn't badly under thrown but if that ball you're talking about was thrown over the top and leading the receiver towards the end zone it's probably a catch but either way it's incomplete and not intercepted that's kinda on the quarterback....

We look at decision making in real time and have recency bias towards our quarterbacks and sometimes towards the play caller but sometimes you have to pick the right one to blame it like in the last game I mean we probably could have won that game had Lance just throwing the ball to the open guys in the end zone on all those red zone failures people were looking at open guys but the one he got away from and pulled the string on Rico we probably win the game he simply just throws the ball normally..

But now we'll go blame Mike McCarthy for all the red zone issues and really when you look at it it's a 5050 deal between the play call and the execution...

But yes, Sark can get very aggressive and odd in his play calling because he trusts his defense so much.... But what drives me crazy and this is a college thing probably we have a bad kicker and our special teams haven't been good the last two years you're trying to be a championship team and you don't even change out your kicker I mean the dude's not good he never has been good he was an 80% kicker on his best years but on average he's 78% career kicker and the dude doesn't even change his kicker out he's too loyal to some of his players and that's a problem in the professional ranks and I don't know if he would last here if he did that here with the whole I'm not my quarterback I'm not pulling my kicker I'm not making changes he has a giant ego..

Me too. But sometimes Sark's stubbornness makes me scream at my TV!!
I think he's dealing w/ a very flawed QB. But I understand what you're saying. I said some very brutal things about Sark during that Peach Bowl.

Sounds like Sark will eventually test the NFL waters again, but not until Arch era is done.

^^^^^ This!!!!! It always amazed me with all the recruits that want to come to UT, he wasn't able to find a better kicker?? Drove me nuts!!

Jerry is too cheap. Mike won a SB and Jerry only paid him 6/year. The cowboys might be more high profile but Steve has the better job right now.
jerry's not cheap he just has a list .... certain positions including coaching. lmao cheap ? he cut Nolan with 4 years left on deal, he paid 3rd string QB 5mil to sit on the bench all year. Overpaid Zeke, dak and gave Lamb the 2nd best wr deal at the time .paid Jaylon smith etc etc that not being cheap as he cut him mid-year owning him tons of money.

He allocates his money differently but that his choice.. i know coaches who got paid $10 million and then those teams had to fire them, they ate the contracts, its not just how much you pay its what will be your return.. many coaches and players steal money from owners not living up to the contracts, so some are bit more tentative on how they spend on FA and coaches. etc .. Im not saying i agree with that philosophy, but it is understandable, especially if SB wins are the goal.. Jim Harbaugh has never won one. MM has id say jerry got great deal and thats bad how?

Odd who fans complain about how much a business owner pays his employees, its NOT YOUR MONEY and Money doesn't equate to wins.. let's see all those top paid HC deal over 10 years and let's compare who earned it and who didnt..bet not many have..

Let me be clear, IF MM salary was around 16 on hc salary list that not cheap apparently the other half below MM those teams are cheaper. irony is MM is ntot eh smallest contract its around 15-16..theweres 32 teams.

if jerry was truly cheap he would just hire an inexperienced first time coaching pay him the smallest deal possible, he did not do that.. his HCa are well paid not the top pay but did MM truly deserve more? no he accepted the deal and fell short when it counted.

Maybe not. I'd personally like Glenn or Johnson as the next coach. The only of those two would likely be Glenn.

Plus, I like McCarthy. Frankly, compared to a lot of the likely options Jerry would go with (including Rivera and Moore), I'd rather we keep McCarthy. That said, I'm not sure McCarthy will want to stay. So, if McCarthy leaves, that's where the look at alternative options comes in. Frankly, Moore seems like a Jason Garrett 2.0, and Rivera, maybe a good option, but his clock management in Washington was terrible. Plus, I'm not sure he'd want to work for Jerry after having worked for Snyder. I think he probably ends up something like being Vrabel 's DC in New England or something.

So, while Jerry probably will go with an experienced coach (hopefully one with more imagination on offense, and one that values the run game), I personally would rather a young coach if we can't keep Mike.
Why do most Cowboy fans just assume they can hire the best available coach?? If they are the “best available”, they will have options which are certainly better than Dallas. Let’s look at why — meddling owner who is senile & arrogant and who must get the credit for any success but none of the blame; little cap space now and for the foreseeable future once they sign parsons; a QB who was just extended like an A+ QB but in reality it more like a B+ in the regular season and a D- in the playoff; a QB coming off a second mobility-limiting injury with a weak offensive line; and the eventual change in GM from Dumb to Dumber which will be more of the same. Excluding Parsells, has Jerry hired any “best available” coaches? And please don’t say McCarthy (what a joke).

It's more of seeing if there is a quality coach on the college level that wants to coach in the pros. I'm aware the pro levels probably will be hard to pull top level coaches, but college might be an option.

Actually your statement's the only thing's a joke right here I mean you had pretty much blabbered on about pretty well known things so you're not adding to this conversation about Jerry but I can promise you this Mike McCarthy is in fact the best hire at the time in 2020 because the results speak for themselves why don't you do the research and tell me everyone that was hired in 2020 and how Mike McCarthy is it in fact the best hire he has the best win percentage , literally the man won 36 games two division titles and went to playoffs three straight years the only two years he wasn't very good was when 20% of his roster and many of them were key players were injured in 2020 and you had in COVID etcetera but go look everyone who was hired in 2020 was gone within three years and they were pretty bad show me the one that was hired in 2020 hell some teams have already changed coaches twice and still can't get it right..

So yes that year Mike McCarthy turns out to be the best hire that was available and the only hire that was successful so you might wanna check your emotions because you don't like Mike McCarthy but in fact Mike McCarthy has a career that you can put side by side with just about any of the top candidates especially guys like Sean Payton I know you don't wanna have this conversation but their careers their win percentages their playoff wins and losses Super Bowls it's all the same they also all had good quarterbacks at the time when they won those Super Bowls it's pretty much a parallel I don't know what you're talking about he may not be the offensive coordinator we hoped for but as a head coach in 2020 up until this point right now he was the best coach it's all in blocking what you can't even debate this with me there wasn't one coach in 2020 that was hired that could even touch what Mike McCarthy's done here don't downplay his importance and what he's done here just because of his playoff failures..

Because none of the other hires in 2020 even got to that point...Joe Judge, rivera, Rhule, Stefanski and Mcarthy. I also remember the very next year Urban Meyer getting the job and everyone saying that Jerry was really dumb for not trying to get mired over McCarthy and yet what happened to Urban Meyer Nick Saban Bobby petrino and Chip Kelly guys that came from college were not as good as everyone anticipated Mike McCarthy was the best coach hired in 2020 and somewhat from the year before and the year after as well..

So we may not be in line to get the best available coach this year but I can promise you in 2020 Mike McCarthy was the best hire there is no debate there was nobody else available that got hired or they would have been hired and he's the only one that's had any real success.....

That's fair, but maybe someone else in the college ranks would be a good idea. Perhaps Dillingham at Arizona State might be a good idea.
Too late on him. With his bonus he made more than McCarthy this season and just signed a five year extension at a significant raise in pay. Jerry Jones will not compete with top college football programs for top head coaches. He’ll find a “name” that will work for a comparatively modest amount.

McCarthy’s agent is Tom Brady’s agent. Las Vegas is in the market for a new head coach.

Sarkisian? Did you guys not see the horrific playcalling vs ARI ST? He's been doing that crapp all year. If he does the same calls vs OH ST they will lose.

If Sark beats Ohio State on Friday, and McCarthy isn't yet signed, it gets real interesting. I'll say that much. I think the Joneses already mainly written off 2025 anyway due to the cap tsunami approaching, and that Jerry in particular may very well be rehearsing a romantic narrative in his head where McCarthy won't sign up for the contract terms that put on the table... probably too few years, probably too much incentive-based pay... and Jerry flirts with a variety of other options in the meantime, but if Texas wins the national championship, he gets to hire the next Jimmy Johnson like figure... or at least, that will be the marketing theme.

In case anyone would be intrigued... Machota and friends on the One Star podcast spend some fairly extensive time with this idea in their latest.

I don't see it. College has equal or more pull compared to the NFL for to top Head coaches these days, especially if the coaches can work with the transfer portal frequency for and against.

Steve made 10.3mil last year. That's double what MM got here.

I doubt Jerry would want to pay any coach a guaranteed 10mil+ per year.
Yep, $10 mill a year, a top recruiting class every offseason, their pick of the litter in the transfer portal, and 100% control over his staff and roster.

And if they win Friday, they will earn a spot in the National Title Game.

Remind me again why he would leave UT.

He makes $10M+/yr. The Benny Hill show that is running our front office has shown no proclivity to pay that for a coach. And if they did, no doubt TX would up the ante to $15M or some such, and neither clown would want to get into a bidding war for a coach. I mean, they expect their coaches to come here and beg for crumbs.
They would offer Sark an incentive laden contract, LOL

Sark would biotch slap Cap Boy right there in his office for such disrespect!!!

The Longhorns are paying the most for their roster - that is why they are winning. He absolutely will not have that luxury here. LOL
As soon as NIL got implemented and paying players was legal, you heard a big cheer from the UT campus, LOL!

Texas has deep pockets, DEEP pockets. When you got alumni like Matthew McConaughey literally on the sideline every game, you ain’t got to worry about your NIL war chest being empty.
