What Are The Chances That Extension Talks With Dak Go Bad?

If I were the Cowboys I would not make any hasty Dak decisions until I see what the 2023 year looks like under McCarthy's influence/accountability with the offense. The exception being, Dak is willing to extend his contract for a Brady-like deal that enables the Cowboys to hire more fire power for the offense. If 2023 looks like the ceiling has been hit, it may be time to move on from Dak and build the offense around a QB TBD.

No because Dak will fleece us again he will throw for 754 touchdowns and 6,527 yards, and they will be forced to keep him!!

It's simple. Draft a QB in first round. Keep Prescott for this season whilst we ease in the rookie. Dump Prescott end of next season ideally via trade or just cut him.

Time to put the wheels in motion in this draft that the front office is moving on.
This is exactly what a lot of us wanted jerry to do when Dakota was franchised…….sadly he didn’t and had zero leverage……some negotiator.

The Jones already botched the chance to have Dak closer to 30 mil but they botched it.

They can restructure to help the cap but I have zero faith they could work out an actual extension that is a good deal.
Why is this myth out there. Dak said no to pretty much every deal Jerry and Co marched in front of him. He wanted a short deal Jerry wanted long, $30mill AAV was never going to be the number unless Dak signed a really long deal.

They should have been looking for replacements before the ink dried on the deal.

Team Dak has the upper hand the negotiation, although I don't know by how much.
.
Like it or not, it's Dak or back to QB purgatory.
Honestly, I don't know what the difference is.

Jerry should go to Dak's agent and point blank say "We simply do not think Dak is the answer here in Dallas so we would like you to renegotiate his deal to void the no-trade element to the contract while reworking the deal so it is affordable for Dallas to trade Dak to a team of his choosing. If you do not do that then Dak will sit the bench this season while we go with someone else while making sure to tell the world that Dallas has had enough of Dak.".....but that will never happen and what team in the Top of the draft would offer the picks necessary for Dallas to select a replacement like CJ Shroud or Anthony Richardson? Oh well, drunken dreams.

After he and his son have spent all this time selling Prescott constantly to the fans that still listen to them? And Prescott does have fans regardless of how some feel about him here.

There is another part of this that we are not privy to, the Cowboys sponsors that probably think it's a great thing that the DC QB is the NFL Man of the Year, cements and makes them happy about their sponsorship investment after having some not so great moments with players like Joseph, Brent and Elliott. Those sponsors are gold to the Joneses. They pay a hell of a lot to be exclusive and a part of the team.

The Joneses have extensive poor history as negotiators, what makes anyone think this is going to go good?

When they were negoitating that last contract, how many times did Booger comment about needing the space to sign other players? Did Prescott or his agent care? Prescott even made the ignorant statement that everyone can get paid. Of course, they could not.

Remember Flacco making that statement he didn't want his contract causing them to lose players? Well, it did at 20M.

Think any QB's give a damn about the rest of the team unless it's a bud? They are in this for the money and themselves as are all of the players.
And who could blame the players. Their career could end at any moment . And the franchises dump them at their discretion.

Like the owners and everyone involved isn’t in this for the money. Players get a bad rap. It’s their bodies and lives on the line .

No doubt. Prescott is a solid investment for Jethro. He brings stability at the QB position.

It’s fans who get wrapped up in this championship mantra . That’s not the priority for these owners and players. Sure, they’d all like to win but this is a business first.

We all know that Jerry and Co will attempt to double down on their mistake and try and extend Dak to help the cap hit.

What are the chances that Dak's agent and or Dak have a higher asking price than our FO believes he is worth? Is there a chance that they just take it on the chin and ride the current deal out and move on if that's the case?

I'm not on the up and up when it comes to extensions, but is it set in stone that once talk starts Dak will be extended or could things go bad?
If push comes to shove the Cowboys will cave, making a decision that's better for Dak than it is from the team. They've done it before and they like their guys.

And who is to say it’s not better for the team?

We really have faith our idiotic owners would select or find a better QB? Lol

Jerry will back down. jerry is not known for giving out good contracts. Dak is the latest example. Lawrence, Zeke, Smith, Cooper, Hardy, Collins, on and on and on.

I was speaking more of how it would affect cap space, but yeah, that's also a potential problem. Jerry might get excited about the next Paxton Lynch.

Sadly Jerry & Co. have shown their ineptness when it comes to contracts and Dak and his agents will yet again fleece Jerry leaving us fans heading into 30 years without a Super Bowl.
Super Bowls under this GM this era.. lol

It’s probably going to be 40 or 50 years pending how long this fool lives

This is probably about as good as it gets. Amazing we have put together this good of team.

They don't have to extend Dak for cap purposes.

There are 2 void years on the end of his contract.
- They can push more money into the 1st void year (2025).
- They currently have 208M of cap space in 2025.
- Obviously they would need to replace him in 2025, but they can keep in in 2023 & 2024 without an extension.

The realistic point to move on from Dak would be 2025.
- Draft a QB in 2023 and maybe another one in 2024.
- If neither one works out, then they can extend Dak in 2025.
Daks cap figure is already 21.8 mils in 2025 even with this being his first void year. How much more money do you want to push into that year without having a #1 qb?

No. You cant restructure and you cant let him play out his contract. If you do the latter have fun creating cap space. You will need to bleed your team to death.

Dak is going to get a new contract. And our FO gave him such a bad deal now Prescott can ask essentially for whatever he wants.

Yeah, at this point I think he'll take whatever they offer with his playoff losses and inconsistent play. I just really hope Dallas can get the no trade clause out of the contract in a restructure even if they need to pay a bit more. I'm sure they could get the Jets or Texans or someone to bite in 2024-2025 or so.
no dak wanted the short contract, so he could get another pay raise at end of contract or in situation like this.
QB pay is going up,Dak may delay till some others get paid so he can get what they get.
I imagine he will keep the no trade clause and get a big raise to around 50 mil a year.

How he has played does not factor into it, jones boys want him so........
