What Constitutes A Successful Season?

It has to be the Super Bowl any time you get the no. 1 seed. It's a rare opportunity. They may go 5-11 next year just because it's the NFL.

Agree with this, too. Just because I'm bullish on the future doesn't mean I'm blind to the fact that "**** happens" from one season to the next.

Feel sorry for those won't consider this season a success unless the Cowboys will a SB.

3 of the most successful seasons for me when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys are 1975, 1990 & 1991.

The '75 team of course lost to Pittsburg in the SB, but it was a retooled old team that had dominated for years and had a relatively uninspired 1974. The '75 team set the groundwork for the next decade. It was a successful season.

The '90 team came up short of the playoffs, but even in a losing season showed the spark of good things happening with the franchise. Yes a 7-9 record was successful.

The '91 team gave us the most successful season (record wise) in several years and even won a playoff game. It was a very success season.

The ultimate goal is winning a championship, that's the measure of success. You can have a "good" season at 14-2 and losing in the conference championship, it isn't a successful season.

I agree but I have the feeling these player would not agree. lol I think these guys expect to go out and finish the job but then that is why I think they will be successful for a good while because their expectation are very high. I don't see this team being over whelmed or intimidated by any of this.

The expectation of players and expectation of fans are generally different.

We've clinched HFA. Dak and Zeke have bright futures. With that said, there are no guarantees. It's possible ( Knock on wood it doesn't happen) we get beat in the firSt playoff game. It's possible we win the SB.

What constitutes success for you as a fan? Make it to the NFCCG at minimum? SB? Already a success? No matter what happens, do you foresee us being an elite team going forward?

For me it would be making it to the NFC Championship game and playing well in that game. I like everyone else would love to make it all the way to the SB.

Two things: One, the haters and critics will never go away. And for me, that's fine. It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if everyone was a Cowboys fan. Two, you can rest assured that the Cowboys already are and will continue to be (for the foreseeable future) FEARED.

Imagine if we add another speed receiver with hands, another stout offensive line man, draft a pass rusher and Bobby Humphreys (my pet player), get a healthy Jayson Smith back and a Dak Prescott with a year if NFL experience under his belt?

Any time the Cowboys are in the playoffs and don't win it all, it's a disappointing season to me. This year, #1 seed, home field, and the best damn offensive line and RB in football, anything less than a trip to Houston is a disappointment. Win two games and you're in the big game.

The NFL does not work like this.


When you have the opportunity you have to strike.

It's not a league where if you're good the previous year than you have any guarantees for the next year.

The Patriots are the only consistent team and one of the advantages they have over everyone else is they play in a division where every team lays down when they play them.. The Giants, Commanders, and Eagles will not lay down for us.


Just because fans and media were WRONG about a teams potential doesn't mean the year was a success because of the fans and medias expectations.

I'm 40. I was a 18 year old freshmen in college the last time we won a SB. It has to happen this year. I believe Dak Prescott will make history.

Of course those expectations will be different. I don't know what I see in this team is a team who expects to win vs a team who is trying to avoid losing. This group for the most part have a clean board without the baggage the media loved to bring up in the past from the botched snap vs the Seahawks and other mishaps which after a while seemed as if the Cowboys were trying to overcome past demons. This group has no past demons to contend with Dak and Zeke has brought a fresh start for lack of a better word

I disagree. Success isn't an all-or-nothing process if, ultimately, you arrive at your intended goal.
If you're not good, you have to build to becoming good. So you measure success in incremental phases until you ultimately get where you're going.

And the best part? Everything you listed as needs for improvement are very realistically attainable! (Not sure about Humphreys, specifically...the only Bobby Humphreys I know about played in maybe the early 90's??? Is this maybe his son?)

This team has already exceeded any reasonable expectations, coming off 4-12 and starting a rookie QB.

That said, they've also raised the bar by earning the 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. When you have that, anything short of reaching the Super Bowl is a disappointment because it's an opportunity that doesn't come every year.
