What happened to the big plans for Dunbar and Escobar

News from training camp was how these guys would have a much bigger role in the offense.

Dunbar was protected in the preseason like a veteran then barely used in the regular season.

Escobar has two or so catches.

I don't believe they trust Dunbar when playing from behind. I think you'll see more of Dunbar when/if playing with a lead.

I highly doubt, Dallas will ever utilize 2 TEs full time. They have been trying to, since Fasano.

We still may see something from Dunbar.

Escobar kinda just is what he is. A Backup TE that will never get to show all of his ability as long as he is a backup. Which is why the pick was stupid.

It's not like we missed on Fasano and Bennett.

3 2nd round picks on backup TE's.... Unbelievable.

i would like to use them to keep the defenses off balance. right now defenses are playing way too downhill on us and we're not making them pay for it.

News from when Linehan was brought on board was that, like Megatron, they were going to use their best players, i.e. Dez Bryant. As long as they are using Dez and Murray as the primary focus, with a bunch of play-action, I'm happy.

I think it has a lot to do with the way the team is running the ball. Still a lot of football left and expect both Dunbar and Escobar to be involved.

I like to think they're just not showing all of their cards just yet. I mean it's not like what they're doing isn't working.

We have been running a lot (fine by me), so Escobar isn't going to get many touches as the #2 TE on a team that has Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley and Witten. We're more likely to throw to those guys than to Escobar.

I think the issue with Dunbar is he is terrible in blitz pickups. This got exposed in the preseason game against Miami. So anytime he's in the game, the opponent can just blitz and render him a liability. There was one passing play where we used Dunbar that I watched out for him and the play called for him to run a swing pattern and not even stay in to block despite the Rams showing blitz. That told me that his blocking is still an issue.

I am a bit surprised we have not ran the ball some more with him given the heavy workload we've given Murray.

I think in the end, Escobar is doing fine. Dunbar has a major liability the overcome if he is ever going to make a major impact on the team.

So glad we used to 2nd round pick to pick up a TE who may get 8 catches a year. Awesome!

It's one thing to have grand plans for them while in training camp. It's another thing once the "bullets" start flying. "Every man has a plan until he gets hit." - Mike Tyson

Dunbar is a waste on the roster in my opinion, I would much rather have Williams on the active roster as the #2 back who you could insert in to run the game, especially concerning Murray's fumbling issues. Could you imagine Murray and Williams both getting at least 15 carries a game, we would literally run over teams. The problem is whoever in the FO has the idea that Dunbar can be like Sproles or Woodhead or any other undersized back when clearly that is not the case for the offense we run. Dunbar has 11 rushes for 27 yards and 3 receptions for 21 yards, 48 total yards...just a wasted roster spot.

To be fair, the scores have been so out of whack early in 2 out of 3 games, they basically were in a survival mode to somehow claw back into contention. The one game where the score was reasonable, the offense pretty much had their way in Tennessee. If they can eliminate the dumb turnovers early, the offense should be able to move the ball vs NO.

The Cowboys remind me of that "Brawler" that tells everyone he's going to be technical in his next fight. Then fight night comes, and he's dancing around for the first couple of rounds. Next thing you know, his opponent lands a nice one and all that nonsense he was talking all through his camp goes out the window. He bites down on his mouthpiece and starts swinging his arms like windmills.

We aren't good enough to do things we hope work, we have to do what we know works. We talk a lot of crap all offseason, but once the heat is on, you do what you know.

A lot of people who complained loudly about not committing to the run shifting gears to complaining about not getting the backup RB and backup TE more involved in the offense. The day after a franchise biggest comeback win. Go figure.

I was more interested watching us continue to run the ball, down three scores, on the road.
