What happened to the big plans for Dunbar and Escobar

Murray's biggest road block was a game in which he got 100 yards. I don't see much reason to get Dunbar's game involved.

The QB only has eyes for one TE.

I'm there.

And I also believe that were Murray to get hurt, it would result in Randle, not Dunbar getting the carries and Williams being brought up from the practice squad.

Which, again, makes me question why Dunbar is still here.

He had that nice long run and fumble, ya know.

Yeah like run the ball. Heard all this talk about how we would stick to a commitment to run the ball...all training camp long. But now we are just out there with Tony slinging it and throwing windmills!

Disgusting.

If only we'd spend 1st's on Escobar and Dunbar, maybe they'd be more involved.

Fasano was still in the league. While hes not great, wasnt thrown out like some players. Again, another team knew what to do with him and what to expect. That one is on parcells.

What do you mean other teams knew what to do and what to expect with Fasano? Was Dallas supposed to make him the starter and accept 33 receptions per season? That would have been brilliant. They expected him to be a competent back up tight end, catch a pass or two a game and be a decent blocker. He did none of those well while in Dallas. He barely does them well as a starter at his other stops.

IMO, if Escobar was as good as advertised, then the coaches would make sure that he got enough touches.

Perhaps his 11 career receptions says otherwise.

News from training camp was how these guys would have a much bigger role in the offense.

Dunbar was protected in the preseason like a veteran then barely used in the regular season.

Escobar has two or so catches.

It's called Demarco Murray. Not sit and enjoy the show.

I highly doubt, Dallas will ever utilize 2 TEs full time. They have been trying to, since Fasano.

Its an odd situation, there are three ex Cowboys playing tight end in the NFL (Fasano, Chandler & Bennett) that seem to be doing pretty well, its a shame we couldn't have kept one of them and used those 2nd round picks on another need

You're going to lump Chandler into this? He came into the league in 2007 and did nothing. The Chargers, Cowboys and Giants all had him and cut him. He didn't record his first reception of his career until 2010 with the Bills and that was his only catch of that season. How long was Dallas supposed to wait? And at the time he was with Dallas he was the third string guy. Plus Dallas already had Bennett on the team before they acquired Chandler, so it wouldn't have saved two of those second round picks.

Fasano was horrible in Dallas and to say he has done well in his career is being kind. He has been less than average for the tight end position.

Bennett didn't want to stay around. Hard to keep a player that wants to be a starter and is unwilling to accept a back up role.

Witten only has 18 targets through 3 games, so it isn't like he is taking a lot of the production away.

Why? What has he done to prove he can't be counted on or do the job?

When he was drafted his justification for such a high draft selection was his potential ability in the red zone because he had long arms and hands like a WR. I am not sure if this is how these TE draft picks are being coached but whatever Dallas is doing is not working at that position which is surprising because you would think Witten could really shorten learning curve for these TEs.

OK I understand all that. But what does that have to do with him being a bust? If he isn't used is that his fault? Hate the pick but don't hate the player when he can't control what play is called or how he is used. He is a very good TE who deserves more targets and is no way any kind of bust.

but I don't see the pass catching player that he should have become. Sometimes players just can't be themselves playing behind a legend like Witten and that might be the case but so far I have not been impressed with Escobar on the field.

lol, chill out amigo, all I said was that it was an odd situation considering all we currently have is a low catch back up that some think is a bust (I have no idea or opinion on Escobar), so they're apparently identifying players that can play in the NFL but for some reason they aren't working out in Dallas.

Considering the production we've gotten from our back up tight end, it seems Chandler could have been just as useful and at least they save the Escobar pick. Who knows, I'm no scout and simply spitballing, not throwing darts at anyone.

Since we've committed the resources to Escobar, I sure as hell hope he works out and turns out to one day be a viable replacement for Witten when that unfortunate departure occurs
