What happened to the big plans for Dunbar and Escobar

There's only one football. The offense is Dez, Terrance, Beasley and Demarco with some Randle to fill in at times. No reason to over complicate things.

News from training camp was how these guys would have a much bigger role in the offense.

Dunbar was protected in the preseason like a veteran then barely used in the regular season.

Escobar has two or so catches.

It's still early... The offense has many weapons to be utilized... And if you want to run the ball 20+ times a game, and you still want to keep Dez well fed and happy with 10+ targets per game, and you have a HOF Tight End, plus a nice variant of secondary options in Beasley and Williams, then it doesn't make sense to put any emphasis on the backup TE and RB... Escobar will never be utilized to his ability as long as Witten is healthy, but he should be a capable starter if Witten were to go down... History tells us that Murray will get injured, which means Dunbar will get his chance...

If there's one player who could be more involved in the offense, then it's Dwayne Harris imo... Harris' speed and elusiveness should have garnered him at least one play through 3 games that was designed to get him in space with blockers...

A lot of people who complained loudly about not committing to the run shifting gears to complaining about not getting the backup RB and backup TE more involved in the offense. The day after a franchise biggest comeback win. Go figure.

I was more interested watching us continue to run the ball, down three scores, on the road.

This was not a negative post.

Exactly. Good call.

I never liked it when we had a dozen options before (like in 08ish when we had Owens, Williams, Austin, Witten, Bennett, Barber, Felix, etc. etc) and we would have to force the ball to these players to keep them happy but ended up having a disjointed game plan. It was fun to say we have this firepower on paper, but when it came to gametime, you just had too many players wanting the ball and a QB with favorites. Only a few teams like Denver and New England can manage this, and they simply have better coaches (and qb's I guess) than us. We just need our three main targets (Dez, Murray, Witten) and three secondary targets (Williams, Beasley, Randle/Dunbar) and that's all. No need to overly complicate things and just focus on getting these players to click. If we have injuries, then fine, sprinkle in Street/Escobar/Harris/etc.

What's wrong with suggesting "getting better" and "improving everyday"? After all, isn't that what JG has been preaching past few years?

Neither are very good.

I think Escobar at least showed a little something last year. Dunbar is just a spare IMO.

Personally... If Murray runs for 100+ every week, I could care less about Dunbar. Dunbar hasn't looked that explosive thus far when given opportunities.

As for Escobar, no way he will live up to his second round pick status. I think he will be utilized during certain games, but Bryant, Witten, Williams, and Beasley are the top 4 targets in the passing game.

I think people are going to realize, Dunbar isnt as good as the people think Dunbar is. I think the people on Clairborne are coming around to that fact on him as well.

I can't stand reading "Dunbar cannot pick up the blitz".....or we are running so much...which makes Escobar useless. My response to both are...WHY are they on the team then. I mean did someone hold a gun to your head and FORCE you to keep a guy that cannot pick up the blitz? Did someone hold a gun to your head and FORCE you to use ANOTHER 2nd round pick on a guy you have no use for? It is just BEYOND stupid. Especially when you consider the guys we have been picking up off the street to play DL. I wanted Sproles when he was available and the Saints got him. At the time we were told we got somebody in Felix Jones to fill that role. I wanted Sproles when he was available and the Eagles got him...again, at the time...we were told we got Dunbar for that role. I guess we are just "smarter" than everybody else? /sarcasm

I am very close to declaring Escobar a bust and putting him in Martellus Bennett category of 'completely unnecessary draft selections' Thats now two 2nd round draft picks on position that has been fine for years with HOF TE.

that is reference to their time in dallas. If you think both of those draft decisions were good...I suggest Cleveland browns for you.

they were good choices, but after they left dallas and excelled elsewhere, they were good players, drafted by a team that didnt know how to use them. Is that their fault, no, does that mean they are bad players, no, does that mean every player we draft is the correct player for us, no, does that mean every player works in the righ t scheme or the right coaches, no.

Again, stop evalutating, you arent winning .
