What happens to the QB position now?

we have a good young QB who gets better every year.
we need to keep him.
sign Dak to a long term deal.
build around him thru the draft.
considering some of our recent f/a signings....i'd prefer the draft.
He still throws behind his receivers, just like year one. What improvement are you talking about? His wallet?

you go that route, and we eventually have a decent team just in time for his renewal. No way.

Draft a QB, go with Dalton meantime, and let’s see what Gilbert has? No one mentions him. He’s worth another look at least.

not a try and shoot and score go count
the hate vs contract from

Elliott
Jsmith
LCollins
Tsmith
Crawford
AC

and yes Daks 32mil tag and contract fight

everyone of them have owned this board the last 3 seasons plus..in many of these board members opinions they are ALL overpaid and stealing money from our cap..go count up all the posts regarding these contracts and others remember Dez, brandon Carr? miles Austin long before them the Roy Williams both of them etc etc
Would that happen if they actually performed to their contract dollars?

Here are the draft picks used on the quarterbacks for the seven teams in contention for the AFC playoffs:
1, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 32.
Five are top 10 picks. All of them are first round picks.

The NFC
1, 1, 1, 2, 6, 24, 32, 35, 75, 199.
7 of 10 in current first round slots.

14 of 17. 82 percent. 11 of 17 are in the first half of the first round. There are more #1 overall picks than there are picks in the second round or later.

Happy New Year Zoners. This season is ending on a high but low note for me. Week 17 will have some excitement but winning 3 in a row really takes Dallas out of contention to draft a top QB. Worst case scenario seems likely - Dallas and Washington both win. So the draft pick ends up in the 9-12 area, I guess. Definitely no QB there. No Surtain. No Parsons. Oh well. Biggest question is the QB. Seems like the choices are:

1. Tag Dak for 2021 and let him play out that contract

2. Trade Dak knowing the value is down given the injury and ATL likely grabs Wilson

3. Sign Dak LT - there will be no bargain there

If you go with #2 is Dalton your guy?

Sign Dak long term, and use our 1st rounder on a BPA stud.
It's that simple.

I wont say why I think people are so focused on Dak's salary. It doesnt have to do with football though. I have people on here quoted as saying if Dak won a superbowl MVP they still wouldnt like him so it goes to show you the real reason he isnt liked but Dalton is praised every time he does something good.
That salary has everything to do with it.

I think he’s a slightly above average QB. I’m sure he’s a great guy, especially in the locker room.

What I’m not convinced about is his ability to lead this team to above average. He's a Romo, can’t take a team deep into the year. When’s the last time the Cowboys had momentum going into the playoffs?

Romo is a great QB stats wise, but his playoff performance is what I see in Dak.

That’s not hate, it’s common sense and being a fan. I root for the jerseys, and team, not individuals who come and go.

I'm with you.....my stance on the names above that merited being at the bargaining table are:

Elliott....worthy at the time, body of work at the time, and RB playing span.
JSmith....Jerry gambled on belief and he has backslided with play
LCollins....rated high, but now bothered by injury
TSmith....worthy at the time, but now bothered by injury
Crawford....baffling
AC....brought play into the offense his 1st year...has sputtered at times, but JJ had to do the deal or lose him.
Dak....timing....his play was undervalued (no one ever argues that point)....market value (Joe Flacco)...and we're currently left with short-term QB

You got to pay someone......as for stealing money, if I said SLee....the board would go crazy....but his injuries don't place him on the field or his play merit, (but the board will single out JSmith exclusively because Lee doesn't have the mega deal). I guess the board wants a Bengals pay scale or a Steelers philosophy. We got not rings since 95.

None of the trophies in the background have his stats on them.....but the smile was great....and not a peep from the board when it happened.

stop drinking and it’ll help you remember

sobering up will also help you see Dak’s limitations

If you haven't seen the improvement from Dak from an accuracy standpoint as well as pocket presence, then you simply aren't good at evaluating football play at all.

Moderator.....how about.....not as much hate, disdain, heartache, or continued lobbying against our QB's salary? Or ignoring the very same accomplishments that got TRomo big money? As for fiction....I'm reading far-fetched posts on the board everyday...and if mine seems so.....I should be good.....right?

not really

there is a difference between ‘far fetched’ and ‘willfully ignorant’

Nothing has changed. Team will still look to resign Dak to a long-term contract. Dalton will leave via fa and probably become a bridge QB for a team that just draft one.

His best stats were in his first year. The team's best record was in his first year. Our second best finish was in his first year.

1. His best stats weren't from his first year
2. Team record has nothing to do with an individuals best season. Dak was incrementally better in 2019 than he was in 2016, the team was worse around him. Reminder that using team record when discussing individual performance is incredibly misguided.
3. "Second best finish"? Are you talking team success again? And one that doesn't even paint it as his best year?

2 of your 3 points were based off team W/L, and the other wasn't correct? Woof

Jerry will likely panic and overpay. It’s what he does.
Up there with death, taxes and the sun rising in the east.

I think the only thing that has held this up so long is Jerry getting burned on the latest big deals he has dealt out. But he will reach out and touch the hot stove again, he always comes back to it.

so No QB ever taken after pick 10 round one has evert been good LMAO..seriously Rogers late first , brady 6th round ,dak 4th round i can go on forever..wasnt RW a 2nd rounder? come on man its not about where you pick its about who you pick..heck sometimes an UDFA like Warner and Romo get passed on,..

Now back to reality's

Dalton will not be our starter unless dak plays hardball, he has to compromise and come with more team friendly deal.. I think we FT him but his response to it will be key, will he hold out, will the FO cave? we need Dalton for insurance as backup.. Dalton is not better then Dak ,

however,

Dak is not worth over 35mil and if he ants even more like 38-40 give the new market, and wont help the Fo with better contract structure this time..he maybe traded , not because we dont want him but paying Dak over 35mil is hard to stomach..

I want Dak back but not if hes unwillingly to come more to the middle like the FO tried to get him to do the last 2 Offseason..

Dalton not the future but he could be a nice bridge.

nothings really changed, this is up to dak now..how will he react to all that happened, does he soften his stance some or forces a huge deal or trade? he will hold out IMHO

Im putting the non exclusive tag on him and lets see the true interest and market for dak. Post injurys, cap year that will be down, and the state of things with the c word..
Last week I looked at each team's QB. I saw only three teams where it might be possible for Dalton to have a shot at starting - Denver, New England, and Chicago...but if the Bears get into the playoffs behind Trubisky, - strike them off the list. The Broncos could sign Dalton as a starter but still make their 1st round pick a QB (currently the 10th pick - one ahead of Dallas). I think Dalton stays with the Cowboys if no team makes him an offer to start.
As for Prescott...let's hope the negotiations do not drag on through the spring.

Crawford and Jaylon Smith need to be gone ASAP.
I would definitely seek a sign and trade for Dak.
If they tag DAK or sign him, then I say trade Elliott for low 1 or 2.
If you draft a QB and keep Dalton. EE needs to stay around to help.
A team cant have a RB and QB making the most money. You are either a running team or a passing team.
I think Gallup is a must keep player and gives Cooper possible trade discussion.
I like our DE group. DLaw, RG, AS, DA, BA
Team needs CB, Safety, OL, DT
(*QB or *RB depending on FO decision)

Are you willing to trade a 3rd to get rid of Zeke? Because that's what you're looking at.

Don't get your hopes up on getting a 1st or 2nd for one of the worst contracts in the league.
