Would you rather a top 10 pick or a 20 something after a HUGE DISAPPOINTING LET DOWN at the end of the year?

Not saying I am for one or the other really... just a matter of perspective I guess.
Well I would think if we are picking in the top 10 for ten years, we should have a very good team, no matter who is coaching them. Oh I forgot about the Detroit Lions.:lmao2:

I don't see why people think the only successful coaches are the ones who look like they would murder your children in broad daylight.

Have you ever looked at Tony Dungy? Does he fit the bill for your "tough guy image?" Probably not, but he's in a Super Bowl the last time I checked, and that's all that counts for me.

Well, Norv looks like he could have a few bodies buried somewhere, and he's not successful.

So, I agree, I don't put much emphasis on the look.

Personal preference. I like the tough guy look. More fun to watch on the side line.;)

I wonder why the 49ers would agree to let Mike Singletary come to Dallas as defensive coordinator? They aren't compelled. A team has a right to make any assistant honor his contract unless the assistant is being named head coach elsewhere.

It's interesting that the report today regarding Norv Turner's desire to bring in a DC of his own choosing -- presumably someone he mentioned to Jones -- was rumored to have put a possible hitch in the plan to hire Norv. There's a wide assumption here that the name Norv mentioned was Singletary, but it's just an assumption. Norv might have mentioned someone else, and I have the vague idea that Norv also wanted that person to be involved on the personnel side. I'm not sure that really fits the theory that Singletary is the man.

It's possible that Jones was queasy with Norv's ideas and thus decided to take a look at another HC candidate -- Singletary being the guy.

I think the NFL decided that the Bowles interview satisfied the Rooney rule, but if not, Jones might also have to do some explaining if he offers the DC job to Singletary and it's widely assumed that it was at Norv's behest. The NFL would surely look askance at such a bald attempt to bypass the spirit of the rule, especially since Jones was on fairly thin ice when he limited his Dennis Green interview four years ago to the telephone.

And the publicity would be pretty negative... Cowboys use Rooney rule to interview a DC candidate rather than a legitimate head coach prospect.

It seems to me that the most logical line-up of the facts makes it unlikely that Singletary is Norv's defensive guy.

We could go back to 5-11 seasons, instead of being on the cusp of making a run.

We're basically at a crossroad - a good HC plus solid personnel decisions and we have a chance to build something here. If not, then we can easily be right back to where Campo and Lacewell had us several years ago. And if that's the case I doubt we'll ever get another BP type coach in here again who can dig us out.

For some reason a two time failed HC doesn't instill confidence that we'll get over the hump and become serious contenders.

I understand why people are doubting Norv and trust me... I am one of them.

I am trying to be a little more optimistic since it really cant get that much worse.. if we go back to a 5-11 season then you know what will happen?

JJ will fire Norv and get someone in 2008 like Cowher.

I'm not for sacrificing a season but I wanted BP gone because I felt he was holding the TEAM, coaches and players included, back.

So I am hoping for the best at this moment.

When it all comes down to it we dont know how the team will react and perform with Norv at the helm.

I think we should all just try to look at what is the real problem at hand... that is our running game and defensive schemes.

Norv could help the run game, I dont doubt him on that.

The DC is the more important this offseason in my opinion and we have no idea who that may be.

So if we wanna act like the sky is falling... lets wait until we officially know whats gonna happen with our defense.

Singletary yes. Garrett? Have you seen a recent photo of him?
He looks like he would need a place to hide. I fail to see a tough guy image in him.

I don't think Parcells looked like he could throw down if need be, either.

Zimmer maybe, but BP, no......

I liked Parcells animation on the side lines though back in the day. The recent special on him just cracked me up.

I know where you're coming from. And no, it's not a foregone conclusion that Norv will be a failure, but I haven't seen anything from him that suggests he'd be a good hire.

I do hope we get someone of quality in here to run the defense and not just promote our current secondary coach.

It is always a good sign when you are rolling your head coach around on a handtruck on the sidelines.

Exactley......but it killed me to see him stare with that lost look on his face towards the end of this year. He just looked beat. :(

I don't think that is accurate. I recall reading a few years ago, that a team could not deny a coach from accepting a a new role on another team if it was for a position that was higher than the one they currently occupied. That was why teams started to use assitant HC, associate HC, etc. terms more loosely

I am just mad becuase I havent had anything too constructive to say with all this Norv Turner talk (some may argue I never have anything constructive to say ;))

Just all this talk and negativity about a possibility and even so... speculation is kind of hurting my head, thus, my lack of posts.

I hear the evidence talk though... he really doesnt give us much reason to feel confident but I am will to suck it up and accept whoever we get and whatever we get from this upcoming season.

It's correct that at one time teams could take an assistant under contract with another team, but the rule was changed because of blatant abuse. Now a team can make any assistant honor his contract unless the assistant is being hired as head coach by another team.

Another point that might be meaningless: Mike Nolan's father, Dick Nolan, was a long-time Cowboys assistant and a close friend of Tom Landry's. I'm not sure Mike Nolan would have warm fuzzies about Jerry Jones.

You must have forgotten that performance the non tough guy put up on Turkey Day when he pretty much spanked the Pack.
