Well I’m from Canada so I’m humbly going to accept that no one from the Dallas Cowboys reads my posts. And I can guarantee you that no one in the cowboys organization is going to cut Dez Bryant because you and a few posters on her repeatedly say it.
You ruin everything for us. We hate you.

lmao the same people who want Dez out, will be the same ones calling the new "WR" a bust because he isn't putting number 1 numbers in his rookie year

I like Dak but until Dak proves he can throw a 15 yard out and a very nice deep ball, then wasting a pick on a top receiver is foolish. Romo made average receivers millionaires.

Only an idiot would consider cutting Dez Bryant. That is the most ridiculous idea ever!

Nope. I've never called a rookie a bust unless he didn't make the roster after being drafted in the top 3 rounds.

You could have saved yourself all these posts and all that added stuff to just post, Cut Dez.

In your scenario we have no idea if anyone can be WR1.
Rookie WRs almost never can and no one here has shown an inkling of that ability yet.

Other than that the rest is pretty much common sense moves everyone can get behind but you've cluttered a good post with your agenda.

Dez is a Texas kid that is a Cowboy for life. He loves this area and this team.
He happens to be overpaid but that's what happens on guys that were paid like franchise players as they hit late 20s and early 30s.
He was woefully underpaid for a few years now he's overpaid.
Team can rectify much of that with an extension as lower bases going forward.

I dont see Witten playing after this year. The one player in the draft this team desperately needs is Roquan Smith.
Number 1 prospect right now..... For me.

I haven't got my board together yet but would love Smith and would run to send the pick in.

Smith, Smith and Lee

Having Hitchens, Wilson and Wilbur gives us a deep LB corps

This really makes a ton of sense, but I would move on from Witten. The coaches are too soft and let him play way too many plays and it's hurting the team as a result. I have noticed that they have started playing Hanna more the past couple of games (or it at least seems like it) and the offense seems to be doing better as a result.

I think we should just go BPA in the draft regardless of position. To do that and not feel pressured to cover a gaping hole, I think they need to 1. Sign Someone like Poe, 2. Sign a starting quality LB to replace Durant and 3. Resign Hitchens.

The Cowboys have done better (especially in 2016) when they let the draft come to them and went more by grade than need. 2017 they seeemed to go back to their old ways of reaching. I think they will once again let need dictate terms to some degree.

I think you will see them try to force a pick on:

1. Swing tackle/future OT starter. I think you could see this in the third round, but could be earlier. Tyron and Collins BOTH have back issues now and Green isn't the answer. This board might melt down if they go OT in the first round, but if the highest rated player on the board is an OT I think it will happen. If not they will probably force a pick of an OT in the next two rounds.

2. WR. They desperately need a WR that has size, speed, range and who can catch the ball. They could be looking for a Dez replacement in the first.

3. Witten's replacement. If they don't think Hanna or Rico can do it all and replace Witten you could also see a tight end taken as high as the first round. If Engram was on this team instead of Witten, it would look like a much better team.

I just looked up engram he has better stats than I thought, but witten is right behind him, 175ish yards and 1td less. For some 12 years older hes still productive if engram is what you consider the standard.

Don't count out that possibility.

How quickly people forget the Atlanta game. Smith may stay healthy here on out and play late into his 30's but if he doesn't? Would you rather have another taco or another martin?

Freaking TWill has been the best WR in some games. A rookie speed WR would open things up for Beasley to get back to what he was doing last year even if the rookie struggles to get open consistently himself. It's just too easy to cover Dez with minimal worries of getting beat deep. Whoever plays TE would also benefit from more speed at WR.

They could add a backup that has a better catch rate than Dez for about 1M per.

It's so easy to cover Dez. You see how this double team on Dez opened up an 80 yard touchdown for Rod Smith out of the slot? While your man Beasley was on the other side of the field single covered.@ me the next time you see a double on Beasley or T-will open up a 80 yard score for anybody

You Dez hating cockroaches have become unbearable the past few weeks, almost like you guys were sitting in the wings watching Verdict's one man show so you all formed like voltron to up the ante.

Why wouldn't you say a player should take a pay cut/get cut if he is under performing his contract? If your motivation is to win games, then you have to expect players to perform up to their contracts. To think otherwise is really putting the player over the organixzation.

I don't get your ardent Dez is above reproach theory. Quite frankly it really doesnt make any objective sense. Jason Witten is one of the greatest players in the history of the Dallas Cowboys and the league, and one of my favorite players but he is well past his prime, and a liability in many regards.

Witten should have been shipped out several years ago but he is still here because of the player he used to be. Nostalgia doesn't win games for you going forward. Dez needs to go. Then you can root for him to have a great game against us.
You don' ship out Witten until his level of play determines it. He still produces and is still one of the best TEs in the NFL.

Now, let’s take a moment to do some math...

image_18.png

<img src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/9866605/image_18.png" alt="">
So with the Cowboys three most important offseason transactions taken care of, the team still has over $20 million to work with. Remember, $6 million needs to be saved for rookies, but that won’t come off the books until the summer. It’s important to note that the Cowboys have the funds necessary to pull this off because of the money they’ve saved from passing on re-signing some of their own free agents in seasons past. It’s also important to understand that the Cowboys will retain players they believe are worth the money. Young, talented players that they’ve brought up through the system are the foundation of this team and they won’t let these guys walk...

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/201...hing-stars-in-dallas-cowboys-2018-free-agency

(Lawrence, Irving, Martin, Hitchens, Scandrick)

And then there is Anthony Hitchens who most fans don’t think too much about as a lot of what he does goes under the radar. He had an outstanding training camp as was thought to be a potential breakout player this season, but unfortunately a leg injury in preseason caused him to miss the first four games of the year. Hitchens is healthy now and he is coming off one of the best games in his career with 15 tackles against the Washington Commanders, followed up by a 14 tackle performance on Sunday.

When you look at these free agents, most fans try to rationalize which ones are worth keeping and which ones are expendable. Well, don’t do that. They are all worth keeping. These players aren’t middling performers that the team can afford to lose. These are players that have the talent and the mental know-how to perform well in this defense. It’s on full display and the Cowboys must retain them.

Like I said.. you could have saved yourself the extra writing when this was merely another bash Dez thread.
You want to cut the guy, duly noted from your other 700 posts.

But FWIW Dez is on pace for about ~75 receptions, 900 yards and 7.5 TDs.
That is mediocre WR1 numbers BUT not something you replace cheaply.

If Dez gets cut he immediately becomes the best WR available by a very large margin.

Your ability to create exceptional Cowboys dialogue is dragged down to the sewer when you get stuck on agenda driven nonsense.

Dallas needs to add WR talent. If they follow the process they've used the past few years they will draft someone.
If you do that you then you likely have a legit Dez replacement in 2019 or so.

Butler is free and likely gone so draft a young guy who is the back up to Dez and TWill day 1. He works into the rotation may even get a full share of those outside WR snaps.

He will ship himself out. And this may be the year.
He's going to do a lot of great things post retirement and he's catching fewer and fewer passes.
Not sure he wants to return and block 80% of the time.
He's firmly in the Hall of Fame.

Go become governor of Tennessee.

We see him entirely differently. Pay attention to his play specifically. It is enlightening. He is living off of reputation only at this point.

Agreed. He is a Cowboys icon. He's a hall of famer. And he is way past his prime.

What if Ridley isn’t there in round 1? The scenario goes down the drain and we cut Dez for nothing.
I hear you....but fwiw, Ridley might not even be the first WR drafted. Probably will, but there are some rumored to be leaning towards Sutton.
