W/o Ellis we really have not got the lb's to get pressure out of the 3-4,our ilb's have sucked
burmafrd;1269750 said:I do not think its all about Ellis- maybe not even mostly. I think that it took a while to find our weaknesses and now everyone knows them. Add to that the simple fact that some of our D players are laying down right now.

Certainly he would be a help now- we would definitly be better- but not that much better since the main weaknesses- overall pass rush and bad FS play- were still there when he was playing.
Add to the FACT that teams are only now since NO exploiting our weaknesses on RBs coming out of the backfield to catch passes- something that was not being done when Ellis was playing- just goes to show that while losing Ellis has been bad for the Boys, there are plenty of other reasons that we are lousy right now.

We'll see him there in the nickel and that is great -- but he's a very complete 3-4 OLB -- perhaps the most complete one in the league. You don't throw that away for 4-5 more sacks a year from him.
The 3-4 isn't the problem -- the OLBs aren't the issue -- the big problem is that our inside guys don't rush the passer well. If Spears and Canty could generate 4-5 sacks each over a season then we'd see improvements across the board in the sack stats of the other guys.
