What in the world will they do with Jaylon Smith?

RESPECT, BRU!

Neal and Cox haven't been anything special thus far. Jaylon is still useful when used properly, he's just not worth the $. He'll be here all season and see meaningful snaps throughout. He'll be gone before the 2022 season.

How is he useful?

Neal and Cox has been more valuable in two preseason games than Jaylon.

Jaylon will be on this team this year, due to cap restrictions. Makes no sense to cut him and have to take that much of a cap hit.
But that doesn't mean he has to start ... we keep him as an extra body, per injury depth.

- But we also scheme fit him where his flaws and weakness doesn't put him and the defense in as many comprising situations.
He backs up and relieves Parson, place him in coverages where he can drop in lanes and keep the pass catchers in front of him as much as possible,
have him

- We would want him always going forward - driving forwards in a straight line, str8 ahead or down the line, since his change of direction is limited.
I dunno what we can do with his run defense and lack of instincts, where he tends to mis-guess into wrong gaps, easily fooled on misdirection plays
and for whatever reason he gets stuck to blockers in traffic.
And because he lacks bend (per knee condition) he's a limited blitzer, who often gets stonewalled up the middle.

- One of the very few pluses Jaylon has is ,,outside the 2016 red shirt year, he's actually been very durable for us.
you don't have to worry about him being hurt. Unlike LVE.

Roy Williams from Texas all over again.

Based off the hype and highlights of his college Fighting Irish ND career - where he was actually touted as a top 10 overall prospect
if not for the horrific knee injury. Not many even thought he'd be able to play again.

I thought if the Cowboys specialist docs thought it was a realistic chance he could rebound back close to his previous form, i was more on board with
drafting Jaylon in 2nd round.

He was actually voted to the pro bowl in 2018. Was that really his level of performance that year or was that a popularity contest ?
Kris Richard had him blitzing, rushing and stunting as a stand up at the line,..but that became short-lived as vet FA Michael Bennett arrived on the scene.

But as defensive coaches departed as he became less 'specialized" and more off the ball, the flaws and troubles in his game became more manifested.

This is jerry's special needs kid. He will be here this year. Good luck to him in the future. He is a great person. He will be fine.

Lack of bend is WHY he gets stuck to blockers.

See if you can find a sucker that will give you a draft pick for him.

Can't cut him due to cap. I suspect he will be gone before the 5th league day of the 22 season. I think it is clear the team won't be playing him every down this year which is fine with me

A trade would be cap viable, but who is taking him?
No one will trade for Smith. You might get a conditional 6 or 7 for him.

I don't think you're right on next year. Being that he would need to be cut before the 5th day of the league year to avoid future guarantees kicking in, they won't be able to call him a post-June 1 cut. They will be on the hook for $6.8M in 2022 if they cut him.
Did they change the rule about cutting guys and designating them a post 6/1 cut? In the past you were able to do this with 2 (I believe) players

I guess that he can, but he certainly is the weak link. To me this is exactly like Roy Williams from Texas where it was obvious that he couldn't play and they kept him for 1 more year than they should have.
Cap hit means he is here this year.

Cox? You mean the guy who's played almost exclusively against people who won't be on an NFL roster in a month? Neal had one good play in the last game, but he's been up and down in camp very similar to Smith.
