What Kind of Start Would it Take to bench the QB?

And your premise that losses means bench the QB is wrong. Team game. Losses do not mean the QB is playing poorly.

Dak has been quarterback since 2016. During that time he has consistently choked every time the Cowboys needed a real quarterback.
Those aren't team losses. When the quarterback doesn't show up when the pressure is on, that's poor quarterbacking.
He let the Eagles win when they were a trauma ward. He threw the ball into the ground on 4th down. He throws erratically- when the pressure is on.
Those aren't team losses.

Rush is adequate against an average performing team if everybody else steps up. However, for longer than one game? Opponents might just make the effort to gameplan him.

The Cowboys have historically ignored the position once they've anointed a franchise quarterback. This is a huge mistake but that is their philosophy.

Prior to last season he had some very good games against good teams or he wouldn’t have gotten the contract he did. He played great against the Buccaneers in the opener, it certainly wasn’t his fault that our defense couldn’t make a critical stop.

I worry about our backup position. Wouldn't hurt to accept RGIII's offer and bring him in just to see what he's got. Cooper Rush is good enough against a lesser team, but I worry having him at QB if he has to start against tougher teams overall.

I think there could be some discussion about it if the Cowboys happen to start 0-3.

But what kind of start would it take for the Cowboys to bench Dakota?

Here's what I really think.

I think we spend a lot of time supporting or defending Dak that we're not giving much attention to the back up quarterback spot.

Injuries happen in his league. Dak could get injured. Just like any other quarterback could.

Last year, 27 back up quarterbacks made a start at some point, for some reason, so it's not like I'm foreseeing some pie in the sky.

Are we really set with Cooper Rush? Or do you guys think we have anyone close to Dak with Grier or DiNucci?

I like both players. Grier torched my alma mater in a pretty classic performance, which I only recently watched. And DiNucci seems to have a little bit of Romo in him. Just one of those players that's going to hang around on your roster because he shows reasons why you'd keep him.

Anyway, I'm not hating on Dak. I think Micah likes Dak, and he talks about Dak's work ethic, so I dig on him as a player, actually. I don't like some things about him. Like, he's been given a great cast of players.. Romo had good players, too, Dez Bryant, etc. But he didn't have quite all the weapons Dak has.

IMO your theory is too broad. What would it take to start Cooper Rush over Dak? The answer, a concussion. Or any other injury sidelining him. Not an 0-3 start. Not an 0-10 start. Starting Cooper Rush because our team, or Dak is playing poorly is akin to trying to put out a fire with gasoline. You're just making a bad situation worse.

You can ask this question about the Eagles or Commies, but the Cowboys do not have a QB situation where benching our starter is an option.

In some ways, I don't have a problem with this. We have our quarterback, so we pay him to keep him, and we start him.

That's smart.

What's not smart is not having a guy you think can at least win 14 games in a season, if Dak gets hurt in, say, game 3. Or 9 even.

We need a guy we can rely on to win several in a row.

Do we have anyone like that?

If you ask me, right now that guy would be DiNucci.

A better thread would be how many more seasons are we going to put up with Tyron being injured or why have we not addressed the problem at center in free agency.

How about when will we get an offensive line coach that can develop the players we draft and put them in a system that uses their best attributes.

Why is it fans can't understand that the offensive line affects the running game and quarterback and that there's only about three human beings on the planet that can overcome no running game and a really bad offensive line and we do not have one of the three but neither do most teams and they figure out how to make it work

That's why, as much as I liked Tolbert, I don't think he was necessary.

Dak is their franchise QB....they are not benching him for Cooper Rush lol. Better pray for something else to occur like injury or something lol.

I'm not hoping Dak gets benched right now. People are saying I want to bench him at 3 games. I'm not even responding to that, because clearly I said you have to at least start talking about it then.. Not that you should take action. But, would you bring in a vet?

Last season, we started playing teams with winning records.

That's what happened.

That's been the issue with Dak his whole career. He can been the middle of the road teams, all day, every day.

He struggles, statistically, against winning teams.

I'm also not blaming him, %100 for this.

Some of it's on the team's coaching, but his INT rate, everything much higher against winning teams..So they've got to fix this.
