What pass rushers are left?

2 Dallas type signings still out there would be Bjorn Werner and Shea McClellin

Werner is a complete stiff. McClellin at least provides some positional flexibility in that he can play some LB and DE.

Andre Branch is a guy that I would look hard at for a rotational end on pass rushing downs.

I think that the long termed potential for Joey Bosa has been steadily elevated in opinions. He should start out at least solid in the run defense and improving through out his first year, in pass rush.

That puts DE back on the board for round 4.

Next, Buckner and his size is projecting as a defensive tackle. He reminds me of the entry of Bob Lilly and a two to three year progress to unstoppable inside. He is in play, reasonably, at pick four as well.

I like that Dallas is bringing in Hall and Goldson. They will elevated the depth in the secondary and put Carr on notice of his immediate future. A new contract or he becomes a cap savings now.

But I'm excited that either SS Ramsey or CB Hargreaves will be at 4 as well.

If the Cowboys want to go ahead and franchise shop for a QB, they have a legitimate shot with either Goff or Wentz.

Then there is Elliott for a top end addition that would produce from the start, similar to Tony Dorset or Emmit Smith.

If someone offers top end picks for four, then players such as Billing, Spence, Nkemdiche...come into view very quickly.

I'm really starting to warm to the prospects of this upcoming draft.

Jason Jones 29, 28 carrier sacks, looks like Phins may be interested

Quinton Coples 25 had 16.5 sacks first 3 years in the league, now the bust work is being spoken

Jeremy Mincey 32, we know him

Darryl Tapp 31, has 27.5 carrier sacks

Andre Branch 26, had 6 sacks in 2013 for the Jags

Corey Wootton 28, had 7 sacks in 2012 for the Bears

Efe Obada is still out there. They can bring him back for the 15th time.
Or just bring back Hardy, over Mincey.

Obada is a Chief.

This is literally what is left of the carcass as of this moment from Rotoworld's listings.

Some of these players (Andre Branch for example) are already in play with other teams and could go soon.

Greg Hardy
Aldon Smith
Jason Jones
Courtney Upshaw
Dwight Freeney
Kroy Biermann
Wallace Gilberry
Mike Neal
Darryl Tapp
Jeremy Mincey
Andre Branch
Chris Clemons
Sam Acho
LaMarr Woodley
Calvin Pace
Quinton Coples
Chris Carter
Larry English
Frank Alexander
Anthony Spencer
George Selvie

Jerry Jones was not kidding a week ago when he said he had no idea what to do about the defensive line. Our inactivity pretty much reflected his lack of a plan.

It should have been a focus of attack and there should have been a Gong Show audition earlier than now to at least get a rotational veteran.

Well, might as well give Jerry another bottle of JWB, put the names on his spinning wheel, and let him have a spin.
I would say dart board, but with the JWB involved he may hit his eye glass cleaner guy. Well, that on second thought...LOL...
Could put them in a helmet and draw names out. But I like the Wheel of Unfortune idea.

Nkemdiche Is capable of playing LDE in the 4-3, but you don't take him at #4.
Bosa at 4 or a number of DEs in a move down.
Irvin may move to DE.
Gregory in game 5.

We probably don't have a beast at RDE, but would Long or another FA besides Vernon have provided that?

We will throw numbers at the position even with Gregory, so all will be well. I would leave DLaw at LDE. He's not a star yet, so keep him at LDE where he had an impact vs the run and works against RTs. He will be more successful there than moving him to go against better OTs. I don't move him unless the draft pick is Bosa.

The pass rusher with zero sacks last year. We're gold.

He was hurt for most of the season (elbow) and Hardy took lots of his previous snaps. He still can play a contributing role
in Marinelli's style of defense.

Looks like Tapp signed with the Lions:

Lions re-signed DE Darryl Tapp to a one-year, $950,000 contract.

Yup, the hurt thing when zero sacks are involved.

Look, all is not lost guys. If we can focus on DL who can stop the run cold and Marinelli can adjust his
scheme just a bit to allow LB's and CB's to rush in certain down and distance situations, it will keep
the offenses guessing enough to be at least competitive. What we really need is an offense that
can grind out 1st downs and keep the opposing teams offense off the field especially in the 4th quarter.
That was the winning pattern in 2014 and it would work again. If we somehow get EE or another
efficient RB we can do this. Don't jump off the bridge yet. We're not even to training camp yet, geez!

You know it is not Jerry Jones that is directly responsible for this. This is a huge miss in the pro personnel department.

That goes to Stephen Jones, the great and mighty McClay and Garrett's brother. It is inexcusable going into a draft when the only healthy true end under contract is Marinelli's personal whipping boy in Ryan Russell.

Nkemdiche Is capable of playing LDE in the 4-3, but you don't take him at #4.
Bosa at 4 or a number of DEs in a move down.

Rookie ends. You know, the ones who people around here will be making excuses for when they have yet to have an appreciable impact in their first year.

The same people who are banking on the draft for help there are the same people who will be saying He's a rookie, what did you expect?

The last two we have taken early have needed time to develop.

Irvin may move to DE.
Gregory in game 5.

I like Irving, but he is a projection at 4-3 end. His best fit is as a 3-4 end or a 4-3 DT. Putting him on the edge takes away some of the things he does well.

As for Gregory, that is the sad part. I would understand waiting to be rescued (which seems to be our mode, damsel in distress, waiting to be saved by a suspended or injured players return), but he is still developing himself.

So he is going to return after his layoff and be a quality starter? He was not even that last year. I act like he is not even on the roster at this point.

We probably don't have a beast at RDE, but would Long or another FA besides Vernon have provided that?

That is not the real point. We are not even at the stage where there is much left even in the stopgap market.

We sat around for a week in free agency and either couldn't or wouldn't make strong and serious plays for even that.

It is a complete twisting of the point to bring up the big fish. It was clear we were going to go cheap.

Now, even those options are down to the point of being pathetic.

So we throw numbers (read: draft picks) at a position because of need and that takes away from the other problem areas.

Contrary to popular belief, even the rookie DE class is weak. So who is the RE in your plan since you are leaving Lawrence on the strong side?

At the moment, six DEs are likely to go in the first before our 2nd round pick (Bosa, Lawson, Dodd, Spence and Bullard). That leaves Ogbah, Ward, Blair, Calhoun and Nassib to start "throwing numbers" at it.

If I had a plan now, I would push Tyrone Crawford back to end, look at the interior of the line where the draft is strongest and recognizing the fact that disruptive interior lineman are more plentiful and able to have an impact sooner than a rush end.

Jason Jones, Mike Neal, Quinton Coples, Andre Branch, Wallace Gilberry

If we can sign 2 of them we really aren't in bad shape going into the draft. The problem is that I have very little confidence that we will sign any of them at this point.
