We need some Vets this year, and not the cheap diamond in the rough kind like Mincy! Elway went all in with Manning and everyone mocked him because of the huge contracts for Ware, Talib, etc. They also drafted a future starter at QB. We love copying successful teams. Here's your blueprint Jerry!

Think if Romo wouldve been healthy this team wouldve unleashed hardy. Guy was never able to pin his ears back and go after the QB. Dallas never played with leads.

Totally agree. Romo would have placed this defense in better opportunities to win games going into the 4th quarter with a lead. And they did have leads in the 4th quarter.

Where I disagree, though, is the defense still lacks playmakers on defense who can impact the game regardless of the DC's passive/aggressive tendencies. They still would not have been a SB-quality defense, with or without Romo and a more aggressive defensive scheme.

Keeping Romo and other play makers healthy is the first thing that that comes to mind. That alone would have been enough to make the playoffs this year. Being a Super Bowl team will probably require the Boys to get better on defense. I look forward to seeing the Cowboys make these correction and make the next step forward.

We need to get better on defense as far as producing turnovers.
But we need playmakers on offense too. Carolina's defense played well enough to win the Super Bowl. But when the rubber met the road, Cam was their only superstar on offense. The Broncos weren't scared of the Panthers' receivers nor their running backs. And they kept Cam in the pocket.

I really wish we could get an impact-turnover-producing defensive player AND Ezekiel Elliott. We need a dynamic back so we can force teams to game plan against Romo, Dez, Witten AND our running back.
It's very difficult to beat teams that have a solid defense and multiple threats on offense.

Having a veteran playmaker at QB who is truly elite may have made a difference. We had a choke artist and a grandpa at QB last night. Put John Elway/Aikman at the helm of either of those teams and the outcome is totally different.

An Elway and Aikman with no weapons wouldn't have done too much either.

We probably never will although I think Dallas knows the way around it with ball control.

What we need to do is focus on strengthening the offense and doing some things schematically that help us keep the ball.

Dallas is a keep away team and we can win like that but we have to be able to cash in drives offensively and being bland and predictable is not the way forward.

Ball control and keeping the defense on their heels is.

What separates them? Clearly it's their hairstyles.

What Separates The Cowboys From The Super Bowl Teams?

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2016/2/7/10929876/article

The Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos will take part in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night. The other 30 NFL teas will be looking on, in search of areas of focus in need of development to put them in position to be one of those two in the game.

For Dallas, 2015 was basically a lost year offensively because of the injuries to the two most important players, but a quick look at just a few numbers defensively really paint the picture.

The most impactful plays an NFL defense can make are, interceptions, fumble recoveries, sacks and defensive touchdowns. Let's compare the Cowboys' numbers in these categories with the Super Bowl participants.

Fumble Recovery/Interceptions/Sacks/Defensive Touchdowns/Total
Dallas 3/8/31/1/43
Denver 13/14/52/5/84
Carolina 14/24/44/4/86

Looking at these numbers it becomes fairly obvious, and confirms what we believed through the season. The Cowboys defense, while playing very well overall, just was not making those impactful plays that the most successful teams in the league were able to generate. If Dallas is going to improve their performance on defense and as a team as a whole, they will need their defense to make more of these impact plays. It is quite likely that Dallas will be seeking to add a playmaker to the defense at every level, the defensive line, linebackers, and the secondary, in attempt to raise their impact total.

One other interesting aspect of this particular comparison, is how different the Denver and Carolina defenses are in philosophy, scheme and personnel, while producing almost identical impact play totals. Denver is an attacking 3-4 team, coached by Wade Phillips and built around their edge rush and their secondary, those players make passing against them extremely difficult. Carolina on the other hand is a 4-3 team coached by Sean McDermott, that is built on the strength of the defensive tackles and linebackers who are great against the run and in coverage. Two different philosophies, the same result - defenses that impact the game through big plays.

A properly run organization is the first big difference.

Sounds like you agree with me... getting better on defense while keeping Romo and Dez on the active roster. Ezekiel Elliott would fit in so good with our O-line. His addition to the team would enable us to kick teeth in while our improved defense would shut them up. I'm looking forward to some big additions thru free agency and then getting the draft right.

Dallas was one of the top defense in terms of creating TOs in 2014.

How many games did they win with Brock Osweiller?

You have an issue where our defense isn't good enough to carry the offense in most cases.

I'm not sure we can get there next year, so you need to continue relying on offense to some extent.

You have to get Alshon Jeffery, and maybe draft a running back to cut down on cost if Lamar Miller is too expensive.

The rest should be defense.

The man made a quality post and you try to talk down to him? Really?

There is discussion that isn't just set in a mood...which you are a fan of. But a discussion is offered, instead of posturing around a burn barrel. Remember that?

great d-lines with a combination of elite DE and DT on both teams

Dallas does not have an elite anything on defense (Hardy not included due to uncertainty of status)

Er ... the biggest difference is the ability of the players. Just goes to show ... doesn't matter what the scheme is, get the best players.

Simple.

A secondary that can cover and tackle. A D line that can penetrate to allow the edge rushers to get to the pinned in QB ( very prevalent in last nights game) .

The denver O looked a lot like ours, minus the jailbreak sacks, last night..... and a punishing RB who could move the pile when really needed

Remember the burn barrel ? Of course I remember. That is where all of us gathers around to discuss the reality and the condition of our favorite team. We don't reject opinions that differs from ours, but we choose to consider the validity of various opinions even when they show faults in our team.

This is the only correct answer in the thread. Everything else is just symptoms.

Unlike the two organizations in the Super Bowl, this organization is not serious about winning championships. Its simply a hobby for one family that refuses to make the hard decisions that might make it successful (like getting a real GM and Director of Player Personnel).

The difference is that the defenses were attacking the offenses for 4 quarters instead of the one quarter of attacking and three quarters of waiting for opponents to commit mistakes with the Cowboys.

So who will be the best player at number 4? The FO has a hard decision to make at number 4 because many of those players at that point in the draft will be deemed "best".
