What the heck was that review before the Maher 60 yard field goal before the half?

Coaches can’t challenge in last two min
Always booth review and reviewing it would have been reasonable had it not been after the snap
Though I’m sure they would argue they got buzzed before the snap

It's a lame argument too. They had so much time to get it right. If he missed I bet we wouldn't have heard a damn thing from them.

See the game thread To his credit he did respond and acknowledged a really late review.

That's cool I enjoy debating officiating with him because even though we have completely opposite opinions most of the time he is always very respectful of my opinion in our conversations.

Yes, I understand it too. They didn't want us getting too far ahead on their national slot. That said, it happens, and it's not right that they just pull this out. The optics are bad as it makes the League look scripted. Luckily, it ended up not mattering.

Yeah that was a pretty desperate try you know somebody was panicking at the ratings going into the toilet as we were stomping a mud hole in the Vikings.

We just didn't make any mistakes that they could really capitalize on to Even out the game.

We were cognizant not to get penalized no fumbles no interceptions and we were sacking their quarterback like he was stuck in cement.

And our kicker was hammering 60 yd field goals.

We were a runaway train that they just couldn't put a stop to so in the end they just cut the game off and went to something else That really tells you where it's at when they won't even let the game play out.

I got to say it's ultimately cool to be so dominant that the league just throws in the towel shuts your game off and puts another game on

Yeah, I've seen what you are suggesting, but never after this sequence of events:

There's no excusing it. There was more than ample time to signal a review and keep the Cowboys from attempting their FG. You can claim incompetence, but the fact remains that once again strange ref stuff happens against the Cowboys that nobody has seen before. This didn't happen to the Steelers, the Packers, or the Patriots. It happened to the Cowboys.

That is what everyone is trying to get him to understand. We have all seen plays waived off during mid-hike, mid-kick; even mid-snap, but not after play, team time out, butt scratch, jokes, run play then waive off.

I hope that’s not true
I think the league should have an open investigation
I doubt the communication between league and officials is not recorded and likely time stamped
It would be easy to see if they buzzed before the snap
Reviewing the catch was reasonable
It probably should have been looked at being as it was so impactful

Yup, and it shows that the refs will step in if needed to try to keep the game from getting too far out of hand for ratings.

Heads better roll cmon that’s some clownery
I have stated the same, and it seems to be ignored by the media.
How do you erase a FG and go back and review the previous play?
Never saw a challenge flag prior to the snap for FG.
Never heard a whistle before the snap for FG.
Was there a stoppage attempted beforehand, minutes before hand?
Have never seen this in any game before, yet nobody is calling this out.
When I saw the disdain in Mahers eyes after the call, I knew that he was going to drill the 2nd attempt, must have really pissed off the officials that he banged it.

Not only that, but also potentially steal an NFL record from a team at that considering that no other kicker has made 4 or more 60+ yard field goals.

It wasn't long after the play. The ball went through the uprights, and then the official talking to McCarthy is almost immediately after that. Who knows how long that conversation had already been going on?

I'm not sure what kind of indication you're looking for? The all 22/overhead will likely reveal more as you'll be able to see the sideline where the official that's buzzed would be.

The decision to review likely didn't come until right before the kick. And thus the signal to the official on the sideline did not come until right before the kick. There was clearly failure on the part of the replay booth to actually look at the play in question to see if it needed reviewed. I believe it's likely Romo's comment alerted them to actually do their jobs.

We just see it differently. No one stopped it during the play. That’s for sure. In The interaction with the ref McCarthy the ref says something at first, but clearly not “that play was blown dead”.
It wasn’t for a few more seconds that he started getting upset with the news.

Also, is there any reasonable excuse as to why they couldn’t have told someone during the time the Cowboys ran down the clock? Or even after that when they called timeout?

The all 22 can solve some of that. The rest seems like incompetence.

Just rewatched it...

5 officials are visible during the play: The Referee, Umpire, Side Judge, and then the Back judge and Field judge are under the uprights.

  • The Referee (white cap) is the crew chief and the one that has New York in his ear. He did not blow the play dead.
  • At no point before the camera leaves the LOS was there any indication that the play had been stopped. Not from the 5 visible officials, and not from the players themselves.
  • I would have loved to see if the Down Judge that McCarthy was talking to intervened before the snap, but I just don't think it's his job when it comes to replay.
  • The only indication that something was weird was that the Field Judge didn't indicate the kick was good (though the Back Judge did).

We can't definitively say when the intervention came from the booth, but it's clear that it wasn't early enough for the 5 officials and 22 players on the field to play the down in earnest.

This is absolutely inexcusable considering the 1:40 that elapsed in between the plays.
@Kevinicus

What do you think about this?

Sorry but not buying that, this is the NFL not HS football.
The kick should have never been allowed, and should have at least been whistled dead, there was plenty of time to end that sequence of events.
Like a decade in football time.

We know what it was. No need to pretend. The refs got the call to try to keep the game within distance. We literally called a timeout and during the timeout they could have reviewed, but they literally did it AFTER we made the 60 yarder. Of course the announcers won't say anything. They're in on the ruse.

Twas a beautiful outcome, like kicking sand in Goodells face on the beach while Maher was serving up the BBQ.

I hope Mike is getting that point across this week that the team was able to overcome a poor officiating decision (and an illegal one at that) to destroy a top opponent. We can use that to power us to, ideally, another top win.

Appreciate that. I'm never disrespectful unless someone else wants to go down that road first. I didn't see your other posts in here mentioning me. You have the use the @ bat signal and then I'll show up like Beetlejiuce. On this play itself, yes the call was super late which is weird because one of the replay angles confirmed that Lamb pinned the ball to his chest after having it slide a little and didn't let it slide further. All I can think of is they were concentrating on that other angle that made it look like the ball hit the turf and then looked at the other one later. But @Kevinicus is right about one of the officials under the goalpost. He clearly saw/heard something was up and didn't make a call on the FG like he was supposed to if it was a good play.

We are the Cowboys, and we must dominate opponents to the point that bogus and bias officiating is taken out of the equation, it has in essence made us a stronger team because of it.

The FG was actually nonconsequential at that point, wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome, but it is the blatantly ignored ignorance of the officiating that goes undisputed is what is most disturbing.

Exactly, and Mike, with his experience, can use this in a productive way that can motivate the team to do even greater things against the Giants.

I know that Mike is not Jimmy Johnson, but I do have to ask. Whenever we would get screwed with Jimmy as coach, did he not use it to motivate? I know he has a degree in psychology. Mike might be able to do this too.

Exactly, imagine if this were to happen in a much closer game. Would the passive response here be the same?

Exactly, funny how these 'incompetent' calls don't happen against league darling teams.
