What the heck was that review before the Maher 60 yard field goal before the half?

Right. But this didn’t. It didn’t ever appear to be stopped. Even after it was well over. It seemed like they were starting to prepare to kickoff.

Or I maybe missing when a ref stopped it so I’ll go watch it again.

There was no kickoff, as it would have been halftime.

The refs were doing the replay thing immediately after the play. One of the refs under the goal post didn't even raise his arms and was looking towards the sideline as if he saw the other ref had come in to wave it off. Then there is an immediate shot of an official discussing with McCarthy.

CBS just did a terrible job focusing on the kick and not being aware of what was going on.

the replay official that stopped play needs to be fired today.

Can you imagine the outcry if that same scenario happened on
the last play of the super bowl and the kicker missed the second kick.???

heads should roll.,,

Officials buzz down. Ball is immediately snapped after. Refs then inform they were buzzed. Plays happen all the time after the buzz. Why do you think theh allowed it all those others over the years?
You're missing the timeout being called in between the catch and the FG attempt. That is the part most people are questioning.

It was a bit ridiculous how long it took them to decide to review it, but Maher stepping up and just drilling it again made it hilarious in the end.

What happened during the timeout? Please explain that time frame. Why wasn't either team notified of said replay?

A couple years ago ASU was at USC....on 3rd down, ASU caught a pass for a 1st down....huddled up, ran another play that gained about 5 yards...on the way back to the huddle the officials ruled that the play TWO plays prior was now under review. I kid you not. It was reviewed...pass was ruled incomplete....ASU had to punt. But hey...PAC 12 officiating is just bad....the NFL officiating is bad because it's crooked.

Just a few observations after watching this game for 42 years:

1) Network announcers including retired refs in the booth are another set of eyes for the officials and NFL. They can absolutely influence a replay or a call. This became evident when Pereira was damn near in tears during the Dez play at GB in the 2014 playoffs. He absolutely influenced that call. It was also apparent yesterday.

2) Networks love to cater to Cowboy haters. They drive ratings. When there is a blowout the other way, no way they switch away from the Cowboys defeat

3) Officials don’t rig outcomes but they try everything in their power to keep games as close as possible. There is too much ad and gambling revenue at stake. They have been given marching orders, hence their “incompetence” is guised by their part time employment. They rarely get reprimanded. They even rewarded Bill Vinovich with Super Bowl officiating duties the year after he single-handedly guided the Rams to the Super Bowl instead of the Saints.

Money drives everything. Including the flow of your Cowboys game.

Your owner decides to make fun of the referees at a Halloween party. There’s gonna be consequences.

Then explain the many many years before and all what we have dealt with from the refs. It never fails. Has zero to do with the halloween costume. This has been in place for a long time now.

Of the 4 refs on camera none signaled, or moved at all, to stop the play. Well after the play there was no sound of whistles And yes. The back guy on the left didn’t signal good.

I'm not missing it. That's just not the part I'm addressing, because A LOT of people are talking about the kick being ran.

It would usually be a guy on the sideline that is buzzed (or at least that's where I've seen it in the past). The two guys in the foreground were out of camera shot very quickly, which just leaves the guys under the goal...who are 60 yards away.

These things aren't instantaneous.

I'm not talking about during the timeout. I'm not talking about the delay at all. That is a completely separate issue from what I have addressed.

Why can't people stay on the topic of what is said?

The process is - booth decides to review -> booth signals down to the on field official(s) -> officials stop play, if there's time, or notify everyone the signal came down before the snap as they did yesterday. That's when the teams are notified. The teams don't get a notification from the booth. It's pretty clear McCarthy was told immediately after the kick, if not while the ball was still in the air.

Why they took so long to decide to do the replay? I don't know. They're incompetent and didn't do their job and pay attention to the replay until Romo said something? There's plenty of times they should have called for a review and didn't. They just had a lot of extra time this time to get off their butts.

Which begs more questions. Why wait so long? Why review it anyways really? He caught it
There needs to be some limit to the review process in these situations, like when the play clock gets to 5 seconds - the play can no longer be reviewed.

Please stop making things up. I have that game on video. They went to commercial, came back, threw it to Pereira and Pereira explained the going to the ground rule saying if it was him he would overturn it because there was no football move and the ball hit the ground before coming out of possession. They then show a shot of Steratore walking to the center of the field to make the announcement. What's this "in tears" thing you remember of him calmly explaining the rules?

Heads better roll cmon that’s some clownery

This has to be one of the plays the competition committee reviews this off season.

There should be a booth and an onfield clock or light. It turns red after 25 seconds. When it goes red, then there is no allowance for either a booth review or a on field ref review.

This way refs are forced to deal with the situation now and not impede the play of the game. Especially having a team make a play only to have it negated.

We were fortunate that it was just a FG which is a somewhat repeatable play. Hats off to Maher for doing it twice in a row.

But what would we have done if it was a last second hail mary where we won the game? Or a critical 4th down to preserve the drive.

In the first instance those are really difficult plays to recreate due to luck.

In the second instance you then lose the element of surprise because you play the card of your best play to convert and the defence now knows that play.

The rules committee has to look this over IMO.

Make no mistake....if Mauher missed that kick...there would have been no review...no retry.

Tells you everything you need to know about the state of the NFL.

BEGRUDGINGLY....the NFL needs us to be relevant...

And they can't stand it....that they have to have us...relevant...or the entire system goes into the toilet.
