good post.

we all know we shouldn't trade two #1s for an unproven asset.

i think alot of fans are clueless as to how we're supposed to dominate without multiple starters and probowlers. newman and ratliff alone are siginificant losses that our D can't overcome. lets get real.

nevermind NE would have lost to the NYG without Moss.

:D geez now we have McFadden threads in the #1 and #2 spots, just after someone said they were surprised we didn't have more of these. *G*

You don't use top picks to draft depth. You are looking for impact players. Regardless of you personal opinion of McFadden Dallas sure as hell will not go into the draft looking to find depth with day 1 picks. We did that before and ended up with nothing but bums.

AMEN! People don't get the point of drafting IMPACT players that can change the way defenses line up...

No doubt in my mind. You put a stud RB behind Romo or any top QB and that makes his job so much easier as teams must account for that RB at all times. Other than the QB the only other skill player who will touch the ball more often is the RB and if that RB can pressure the defense to come up and to contain him it opens up room down the field.

and *some* people just don't want to pay out the nose for a player who may be "all that and a bucket of chicletts" or could go down in flames. it's a risk and it's a costly one either way.

mcfadden is going to have a very hard time living up to his pre-nfl-hype.

I don't think that will be the case. I think the scouting department goes beyond Ireland and as long as Jones shows the confidence in these people that he has hired and listens to their input I don't think losing Ireland would doom this team.

Well you just added every player in the draft. No doubt making a move to get a top 5 player regardless of who that top 5 is then you better have done your home work and really believe in him as a player. Dallas took the risk before and TD paid off for us but had he failed to live up to the hype it would have been costly.

no, i didn't. not every player in the draft is going to cost so much. esp in a trade. i understand what you're saying but my difference is that for us to get mcfadden it would be what, 3+ #1's? likely since our two alone don't cover 1/2 the point value of theirs.

rickey williams was that "can't miss" player and what happened?

you draft a player at 20 at your spot, you take your chances sure. but it's just one pick. mcfadden is 1 pick plus a WR, CB and OL to boot.

i'll draft a RB not out of arkansas, take my OL, WR, and CB where i can get them as well with my picks or trades, and have 4 players to show for it. that's not every player in the draft, is it?

The risk I was referring to is every kid who enters the draft. As for gambling on a player as I said you better be convinced that he is the man who can do the job in the case of TD he clearly proved himself worth the trade by Dallas to Seattle. As you mention Rickly Williams was a gamble that the Saints went after and that was costly. Dallas may find the move to get McFadden is too high I don't know.
