The risk I was referring to is every kid who enters the draft. As for gambling on a player as I said you better be convinced that he is the man who can do the job in the case of TD he clearly proved himself worth the trade by Dallas to Seattle. As you mention Rickly Williams was a gamble that the Saints went after and that was costly. Dallas may find the move to get McFadden is too high I don't know.

but not every kid who enters the NFL draft would cost a team 3+ 1st round picks.

the higher the cost, the greater the risk. period. i'd not be surprised at this point to see some form of deal made with miami for their pick, but i still think it would be expensive as all get out picks wise, potential wise, and money wise.

You don't need to pick high to get a RB.

You can say that about any postion. You don't need to draft high to get a QB teams do when they see a player they feel is a quality player with great physical talent and is worth the high pick.

Jason Garrett is Dallas' real problem. Until he learns how to call a balanced game, we are going to struggle offensively in the playoffs. We have to run the football with more consistency. If the run is not working, use screen passes to substitute and not the stupid middle screen that only worked for one game.

so, would you like to see him give jjones the ball more? is he calling to his own whims or the strength of the team?

Of course. That's great when you need one player to build on. We don't, we need some one to carry the rock and not fall down over a high blade of grass.
We still have more needs if we plan on staying a very good team, to many to spend all our picks and cash on one player.

That is pretty much what I said. Yes moving up is the greater risk because you are giving up more to get that player. All I'm saying is in cases where it has paid off as in TD then the reward ended up being worth it. No doubt it was a gamble but Dallas felt that strongly about TD and was willing to take the chance. I'm not saying Dallas should do this with McFadden but if it happens I would hold off before making absolutes about the move good or bad until you see what the kid brings to the table. But no doubt about it, it would be a risk.

I know you won't agree but I would like to see Garrett give the ball to Barber more. Yesterday the team as a whole sucked. I wouldn't expect Barber or any back to carry yesterdays Cowboys on his back.
I hope we give it a shot in round one though.

Provided the rest of these guys pull their heads out of their butts.:)

Actually, we will probably be able to get that Stewart kid from Oregon and he looks reeeaaal good. I wouldn't mind him,for a running back, at all.

Right now there is no deal on the table so we really don't know exactly what Dallas would be willing to part with draft pick or player wise should they want to make a move on McFadden. I agree there are other areas as well that should be looked at be in FA and the draft. All I'm saying is before you can judge any trade you need to know what is being put on the table and right now there is none.

barber is a hell of a lot better than jones but i don't see him as a sole back. if we get another "barber type" player with our pick albiet with perhaps different strengths, we'd be set.

we don't have to blow it out of the park but we do need to improve our running game.

On Cowboy insider they had said Barber would not see much time in the skins game and he really did not get much time in the game.

I know this is all hypothetical, but Jerry does scare me if he thinks that's all we need.:)

Thanx, I missed most of the second half due to a family dinner at Out Back.
I was only able to catch a little during smoke breaks.:) Those stats scared me though.

I think if Jerry tried to work a deal he would do so knowing that other areas still would have to be addressed. I think Jerry is a bit smarter than some give him credit for and think he has learned lessons from the past. That does not mean at times he will not take a risk but I do think how that risk worked out has changed.

I think he needs to look more at the flow of the game and not just what's on his call sheet. Barber and Jones needed more carries. You can't count on us hitting 3rd and 8 or longer all day long. You have to especially in inclement weather, with Romo struggling and Owens out, Witten missing passes, give your team shorter 3rd down opportunities.

I have felt all season long that we have given up on the run way too quick in games and the passing game is not the strength of the team when you end up going 0 for 11 on 3rd downs.

Another good prospect and there are some others I think that are good prospects. This could be a very good draft at the RB position. No doubt McFadden will get the bulk of the attention but I think if some of the jrs come out this season this will be a deep draft at RB

and i'd damn sure not use jones on a 3rd and 8, so maybe he *is* paying a bit of attention...
