What's the story on Dak Prescott?

From the clips I've seen he's a runner and has potential to be a decent passer. If he's there in the fifth and I didn't already snag Lynch earlier in a trade down, then I might be tempted to take him. Flash is there, no pun intended but he likes the ganja mang....

Dak is a athletic QB, with a strong enough are to make all the throws, he has improved every year on his pocket presence and running through his progressions.

The main concern from most of the scouts is his accuracy, some scouts believe this is a big problem some believe it is correctable by focusing on his foot work and deliver point.

And why he is a 3/4/5 round guy.

The boys have invested a lot of time in him and if a QB is not selected earlier I think they would target him in the mid/late rounds.

It comes down to being right on him being able to correct his accuracy.

My point isn't about Romo's selection. My point is, people didn't draft Romo because of these moronic scouting reports that he wasn't ready to start. Of course he's not. So he isn't worthy of a draft pick? Romo should've been a draft pick. Dak will be a draft pick but people are in here trying to convince themselves he's not worthy of even a 3rd rounder? That's silly.

And you're sitting here telling us what he is and what he isn't as if you've done anything more than watch a game or two or watch some highlights on him. What 3 strikes are you referring to?

I have watched just about every college game he has played and he does not have the talent. By your reasoning , let's throw out his college career and waste a pick on him. Really? Why even bother scouting any player? Why not Cook or Jones? Maybe it is due to these other QBs are short on talent too. They will draft him and use him as an excuse to ignore the position until they are at the point of signing QBs off the street. Why not invest in a top talent at the most important position on the field?

Romos release is one of the fastest in the league,he can make up for lack of arm strength.I have seen Prescott play for 2 years. His arm strength and accuracy even on intermediate throws or to the sidelines is bad.his release is average at best.Romo is a Houdini in the pocket,he has a sixth sense back there ,Dak on the other other stares at his rushers instead of his targets and takes unnecessary sacks.I wouldnt waste a 3rd rd pick on him.

You haven't seen Dak against NFL competition. You don't know if he will make that transition or if he wouldn't.

Romo did all of that against weak competition. No one thought it would translate....or some did but many didn't. You look at a guy and you see what he has and see if you can help him progress and develop. You are not drafting a sure thing. All of those negatives you guys have about Dak he can improve on sitting and learning. If the Cowboys threw Romo out there before he was ready he would've failed and probably would've been out of the league.

You scout him based on what you think he can BECOME. You don't draft someone based on what you think they already are. Maybe in the 1st round but Dak isn't a 1st round quarterback. And they make look at Cook or Jones. No one knows.

I just know it makes more sense for this team draft players AROUND Romo than it does to replace someone who's going to be behind him in that 1st or 2nd round. 3rd or later I could care less. I'm not investing a 1st or 2nd round pick in a guy who's going to be sitting for 3 or 4 years. If Romo only has a year left than that makes sense.

That is short-sighted thinking. Chances are , Romo only plays partial seasons for the next couple of years. You must not remember the post-Aikman years. Reactive thinking is the problem with this team now. They need to be proactive and build the team correctly.

Wade Wilson.

Dak Prescott.

I like Dak for us. As a QB3, and in the 4th round. He doesn't do anything for us at the backup QB position, though, and that's where we need a significant upgrade.

I should also clarify, i have no interest in dallas drafting prescott, i just thi k the judgement over something like this, that easily the majority of kids his age have done, is silly.

I agree with you that I don't think it should be held over his head like he's some notorious criminal. I sincerely believe he won't do it again - at least I hope.

I remember post Aikman but I also remember us not even attempting to draft the position. We used a 2nd rounder and then went to free agency to look for qb. When people talk post Aikman no one mentions that we only invested one draft pick which was a second rounder and then I believe a third on Henson via trade. Post Aikman didn't fail because of us reacting late it failed because we didn't really react at all.

Thanks for all your contributions. It means more, now that we have him.

In fairness they didn't pass on Goff or Wentz and tried to trade up for Lynch. I don't think they drafted Dak as an excuse.

I am quite hopeful that Prescott is likely to get at least a backup role and perhaps even an eventual starting position if his development goes as expected.

The man does have a reasonable measure of talent. He has progressed steadily throughout his career and should keep improving with capable training. His footwork has been the main bug causing the inconstancies in his delivery. It is something that is certainly correctable.

I heard he took an entire building hostage on Christmas until Bruce Willis pushed him off the roof.

No wait, that was "Die Hard". In the real world Prescott was a three year starter known for his leadership, who has one citation that hasn't gone to Court yet.

Nice pick, kid has something, will it work out who knows but at least we have a developmentally guy.

I just spent a fair amount of time watching his games. Not sure what I'm missing but to me this guy is legit. Big, athletic, huge arm, very accurate. Quick release. I've seen him work through 3-4 reads and make the right throw. He looks fantastic. So there must be something I'm missing.
