There is a theory that ran around this board for a while during the Quincy/Hutch Wars. It went like this. Those who were negative about the team, Jones, the QB, and about every decision Gomer (Jerry) and his son Hee Haw (Stephen) made, did so because they were insulating their feeling for a time when the team under performed. Lots of decisions on The Zone were made with this philosophy in mind. The board was vehemently divided at that time. I think this theory was merely a label to categorize a poster.
With me, or agin' me, sort of thing.
I always felt it was lazy thinking by those who didn't have the gumption to look past the rah rah, it's a new year set. In the long run the ones who were questioning the decisions by a pair of people who had no business running a professional football team was correct. Twenty five years of ineptitude certainly heralds those who asked tough questions back in the day.
This team is different. There seems to be an actual plan in place to get talent and coach 'em up.
But, there will always be a lingering doubt, and someone feted on a bar-b-que spit until this team shows it can have a consistency in success.
Thus, since the team seems to be slobber knocking the crapola out of the opponent, McCarthy is fair game for the doubters.
I get it. He has made some mistakes. But all coaches make mistakes. We just watched Bill Belichick punt the ball in OT. That decision could have gone either way. They could have made the first or not.
But punting ceded the game to Dallas, and anyone watching that was not a pie-eyed Pats fan knew the end was coming. I bet Belichick figured it out fairly quickly.
But he has skins on the wall.
So, Big Bill is sacrosanct in the annals of footballdom. Thus a guy like Mac gets no rhythm from the fans here for his gaffs. Too much credit is given to Rodgers for their Super Bowl, and Mac just has to deal with that egomaniacs' reputation as Mr. Football.
So, as the story goes, Mac is lambasted by the Great Unwashed in these here parts.
