You have got to hate those young top 5 defenses.

Yes I guess.

Top 5 in the entire NFL for Overall Defense.
Top 2 in the NFC for Overall Defense behind only Chicago

I do agree that too many fans are too worried that Merriman will beat Ware for the sack title between the two, and that horse has been rode to death.
However, being concerned about the lack of QB pressure, sacks overall, and turnovers has nothing to do about any fantasy league.
Putting constant pressure on the opposing QB & sacking him multiple times adds a negative mental aspect to a rookie, along with negative yardage. Pressure also creates more turnovers.

I don't like the way this defense is being used. Sure, it's pretty good now, but, with the personnel we've accumulated, such as Ware, it can be a lot better. One of the few times the coach got creative, Ware stunted around to the middle of the line, and had a free line to the QB. Unfortunately, NFL officiating these days is beyond pathetic, and he was penalized for bumping into Brunell's helmet. The point is that it freed Ware from dancing with a 330 lb. LT, and took advantage of his tremendous athletism & closing speed. We need a lot more of that.

Why are people so upset w/ Zimmer’s conservativeness on defense, didn’t the Cowboys win 3 Super Bowl Titles w/ Jimmy Johnson’s “Bend But Don’t Break” defense?

Jimmy didnt coach a bend but dont break defense...he brought in a more aggressive 4-3 scheme than what we had under Landry...we might not have had huge sack totals, but the 92/93 championship teams got after QB's, especially when we got a lead...you certainly didnt see QB's stand there and be able to read a few books from the King James Bible while waiting to throw, which happens weekly now and has for years

I heard so much of how improved he is but he looks no different. He is strictly a one dimensional speed rusher with no counter moves. Today he was dominated by some guy named Roos and was never even near getting a pressure. He has 1 sack through 3 games- that projects to 5 for the season. I must admit I was hoping for much more out of him.

I wouldn't get too caught up in him having only 1 sack through 3 games. He could easily have 10 when all is said and done. And to Tennessee's credit this year, they haven't given up many sacks.

I definitely disagree with him just being a one dimensional speed rusher. He's definitely added power and bull rushes to his arsenal and is noticeably stronger and better on those moves. I think part of the problem is that he seems to be using those moves too much now. My guess is that he's being instructed to do so to prevent teams from running right at him with success.

He played really really well against JAX and Washington. But I will concur that his play against Tennessee was a bit disappointing.

So where did the term "Bend But Don't Break" come from?

Who needs individual accomplishment when you can be top 5 overall, and young? I think I'd take option number two. Don't worry, Ware will get his. For crap's sake, we're three games into the season, and we've played three teams that are allowing 1.5 sacks per game each.

Well maybe part of that has to do with the 92/93 teams you mentioning having a killer offense to where even if the D might get burned it was worth the risk.

As opposed to the "for years" since where our offense has generally blown chunks.

Plus even Jimmy will tell you that what got the D over the hump those years was the acquisition of Haley. A guy who actually knew how to get through or around blockers. You know.. the sort of player who can just flat beat the man in front of him on a "consistent" basis.

I understand that our guys might have more responsibilities than just pinning their ears back on every play.. whether it's Ware, today, or any other players in the last few years.

But theres still tons of plays where if the guy could've beat the man in front of them, they'd get their Sacks. The guys just havent been good enough.

I guess some people just want to assume (hope) that the Carvers and Pittmans and Ekubans and Ellis' and Wares are those type of players until proven otherwise. When it dont turn out that way we'll just blame the coaches. I on the other hand assume those guys arent that type of player until I actually start see them beating people in the one-on-one matches they *do* have.. even if it doesnt always result in a Sack because the QB scrambled or got rid of the ball. No matter what number of opportunities per game that may be.
