Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high-performance automobiles.[1] The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."[2] A large V8 engine is fitted in a 2-door, rear wheel drive, family-style mid-size or full-size car designed for four or more passengers. Sold at an affordable price, muscle cars are intended for mainly street use and occasional drag racing.[3][4][5][6] They are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing.

Gotta agree with Sam, I don't think of Vipers or Vettes as "Muscle Cars".

Older mustangs mainly that kind are ok. Theyre classics. But if people ment from like 90s to the 2005ish it must be a joke.

I would consider 1974-1993 to be a much darker time for the Mustang. I think 1994-2004 was better, but since 2005 I think it's made a really nice comeback.

The Mustang really has not changed that much. V8 and solid rear axle. It follows the same principles as it did in the 60s. It is still an American Muscle Car.

Performance wise 94-2004 is pathetic. Thats why i wouldnt say muscle car when its a for sure bottom tier if your comparing v8's.

What are you comparing to? Current cars? Or from the same time period?

What do you define as a "large" engine though? I think unless it's super- or turbocharged, anything with a V6 or lower shouldn't qualify as being a "muscle car", like a Mustang V6 looks like a muscle car but it's too wimpy.

Maybe I'm too liberal with the boundaries between the two designations, but IMHO any Corvette like my V8 C5 can fit in both "muscle" and "sports" categories - the former because of the engine and the latter because of the handling.

I would say anything 5 liters or over naturally aspirated.Asians make powerful V8s around the 4.0-4.5 range americans make 5.0-5.5 or higher V8s that are big.

I would not say that a V6 is "wimpy" a 3.8 liter V6 can make well in excess of 350 hp.

I agree though that Vipers and Vettes are both muscle and sports cars, they can be heavily modified too to make a lot more power and that is the MO of most muscle car fans in their 30-50 year old cars.

I'm just going to take it that this is the "summer" car, so where is your AWD wagon/CUV daily driver?:laugh2:

Well I gotta agree with you both because they aren't muscle cars. A muscle car is a 2 door coupe version of the 4 door mid-sized family car with a big V8 stuffed under the hood.

Love that Electron Blue. I have a FRC that I gave to my son. That's a pretty good time. Pretty good.

Haha, actually it's the "spring, summer, and fall" car with a cute but tough little RAV4 doing the dirty work in the winter.

Hmm, think they're the high-polished variety, not entirely sure though.

That's what they look like. Love those. I've got a set around somewhere unless my son stole them.
