As a kid...Salem's lot really got me...esp the kid outside the window wanting in.

Now Pet Sematary did not really scare me but the little kid says...First I play with Judd, then mommy came, and I play with mommy. We play daddy, we had a awful good time! Now, I want to play with you... ...well that freaked me out.

Again not scary but The transformation scene in American Werewolf in London was pretty wicked.

Carpenter's version of the Thing was pretty wicked as well...the part where the head falls off the table and the weird spider/crab legs come out of it and it starts walking around.

Yes yes yes! That's the only movie that ever gave me nightmares. Had a roommate in college and we both remembered it as the most terrifying thing we'd ever seen. So we rented it, and wow, did it not hold up, not even slightly.

The Shining, the thought of living alone in a big hotel like that would creep me out itself....not to mention the little girls at the end of the hall!!

I always liked the first Poltergeist... and didnt those kids all die at an early age or something??

And as a kid the Twilight Zone movie scared me, the monster on the wing with John Lithgow, and the kid that kept his 'family' hostage, creepy.

Yes, the little blond girl did die, she had kidney problems I think? Some say the actors are cursed from Poltergeist, a few have died from those films if I remember correctly.

Also, the Shining was good, but we can't forget Psycho with Anthony Perkins.

The first horror movie that scared me was the original "Frankenstein" They were doing a Saturday matinee at one of the now demolished local theaters.

I probably wasn't any more than 6 or so at the time. The monster chasing the Baron around the upper floor of the windmill and then tossing him over the railing just did a number on me!

And thank goodness back then the prints being shown at movie theaters cut out the section of the monster actually tossing the little girl (Maria?) in the water to subsequently drown.

By the end of that movie I was already so scared that there was nothing Bela Lugosi could have done in the next movie to frighten me any worse!

One that scared me when I was a kid was It's Alive.
The Car was a cool old show too.

Oh, and Prophecy was awesome.

Palmer's quote when he sees the head sneaking away is a classic. Heck, there is a lot of dialogue from the movie that's priceless. For instance, MacReady's response to The Thing's howling at the end of the movie before he throws the stick of dynamite. Priceless. Gary's request to be untied from the couch. Priceless. Even the part where MacReady kills the computer chess game near the beginning of the movie. Priceless.

Ah, the things we do to keep this site family friendly. :p:

Arguably, Psycho is Hitchcock's most acknowledged film. The Birds gets my vote from closest version to the horror genre though. Every time I see a bunch of them just hanging around a tree or sitting on a telephone line I think of that movie. Birds taking over the world? Horrific.

Thank goodness for shotguns. :D

I still don't like dummies/clowns to this day because of that movie!
Tim Curry's portrayal in It gave me the same kind of creeps.

Alien Resurrection because it was really gross and gory and sickening. Cloverfield was pretty neat-o too.
I honest-to-goodness applauded when Hud got chewed up at the end.

The little girls in the The shining was the freakiest part.

Concerning Poltergeist...Don't know if it was the second or third one but the old Preacher guy always creeped me out.

Good call. A very creepy movie. Plus Ann-Margret is hot!

Yes she was and you get to see the goods. That was actually the first time my young eyes saw boobies.

Agreed! LOVE that film. Never found it all that scary though. But it's definitely one of those that if I stumble across it airing while looking for something to watch, I can not turn off.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is one of the few really well done and legitimately creepy "modern" horror movies. A couple others are "28 Days Later" and "The Orphanage".

The Descent is overrated IMO, though it does have a solid ending.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose was "creepy?" Isn't that the film where a good portion of the movie was set in a courtroom along with a priest on trial?
