The Exorcism of Emily Rose was "creepy?" Isn't that the film where a good portion of the movie was set in a courtroom along with a priest on trial?

The scene where the demons reveal themselves in the flashback in the barn is one of the most disturbing and well done horror scenes I've ever seen. The scenes in her dorm room, especially the part where her friend wakes up and sees her on the floor impossibly contorted and staring at him, were creepy as hell too IMO.

Agreed! LOVE that film. Never found it all that scary though. But it's definitely one of those that if I stumble across it airing while looking for something to watch, I can not turn off.
Different strokes for different folks. :) For me, horror movies make me contemplate the what ifs. Even the movie's final scene grips me.

MacReady and Childs are sitting together as the camp grows ever so colder as the fires ebb. Neither one trusts the other. Either one could be the Thing. They laugh at each other as the furtility of their situation hits home as hypothermia begins to set in.

What if one of them is the Thing?
What if it simply waits for the human to freeze so it can go into hibernation in peace?
What if another scientific team investigates and commits the same stupid mistakes their people did?
What if the Thing escapes Antarctica?
What if the Thing infects too many victims before it is quarantined?
What if it's not quarantined?

Those are just some of the questions which swim through my mind in movies I see as horror. And that's only what's going through my mind in the last few minutes. I won't rant about the other crap knocking the insides of my brain during the movie's first hour and a half. :p:

The little girls in the The shining was the freakiest part.

Concerning Poltergeist...Don't know if it was the second or third one but the old Preacher guy always creeped me out.

It was the second one, and I agree. When he comes up to the mom and it starts raining. His voice, what he said, his look all creepy.

Kane: Are you lost, sweetheart? Are you 'fraid, honey? Well then, why don't you come with me?
Carol Anne Freeling: No!
Kane: Alright then! I'll sing you a song... until your mom comes back!
[sings]
Kane: God is in His Holy Temple! Earthly thoughts be silent now!

One of my favorite genres of movies, though most of them out now are just trash. One recent one that I think did a great job was Paranormal Activity, but my favorite all time is the Omen. The Exorcism of Emily Rose had its moments as well.

Edit: Another recent one that was a good watch was Quarantine.

Not a big fan of horror movies, but has anyone ever seen 'The Entity'?

Oh man, tripped me out; the 'demon' caught in the dry ice, the rape scenes, the ending when the door slams shut and the voice says 'Welcome home ****!'

I still remember the text board that came up at the end of the movie that announced that the woman had since moved and 'although the attacks have decreased in frequency, they have increased in intensity.'

How do i still remember that stuff after 30 years?

The first two Scream movies were awesome. The 3rd one was ok, but the last one was awful. Only good part about it was Emma Roberts.

Based upon the prequel that came out last fall– and the additional info given, neither Childs nor Mac were a "Thing".

I have been intentionally avoiding the movie because I fear that it will not compare with my high appreciation of Carpenter's remake. That's interesting about the two survivors at the end of his movie though.

The Entity was a good one. I remember the seen where Barbara Hershey's (sp?) boyfriend (or fiancé/I forget which) exited the bathroom to find Hershey nude on the bed, seeming held down by invisible hands. You could see the hand and finger depressions outlined on her body!

He tried punching the invisible intruder, but was only swinging at air. Then he was swatted across the room from the bed, powerless to help end the assault.

Yep. That was a movie which held my attention from beginning to end. In my opinion, most movie ghosts in suspense, thriller or horror movies that are malevolent usually have murderous intentions only. The Entity was a purely sadistic you-know-what.

I always liked the Childs Play series before it got stupid. If you listen to them with some good quality headphones it's even scarier.

I enjoyed it.

I approach movies a lot like you... Often wondering what went on after the movie ends.

I've got few friends who are into horror movies also and many of them would like to have seen a sequel instead of the prequel. But I'll tell you I enjoyed the prequel.

I watched the orginal by Carpenter in the movie theater, and it's one of my all-time favs... In my view the prequel did the Carpenter film just fine. There were some things that I didn't like about the prequel but over-all it was an enjoyable film to watch. Especially if you're like me and try spotting the various ties made with the Carpenter film.
