When Lamb Returns, is Flournoy WR 3?

Hey bro. Everyone else is talking WR3 here. You're off in left field talkin WR2. This ain't fantasy island.

Pickens has played hard and already earned WR2, and Lamb is WR1, and on top of that he's coming back this week. These are the constants. Now, you can can call them 1A and 1B in any rank you like for the sake of argument. We're all talking about how Flournoy / Turping needs to be WR3/4 in what ever order you want as long as Tolbert is your WR5.

1 Lamb/Pickens
2 Pickens/Lamb
3 Flournoy/Turpin
4 Turpin/Flournoy
5 Tolbert

Everyone's saying this is the common sense pecking order if we're looking at both on-field tape or the numerical data.

Also, the reason you can sneeze at Tolberts 600 yards is the exact same reason. His on-field tape matches the numerical data. You have to look at his overall number of snaps, overall targets, and overall receptions to targets to say if 600 is bad, good, or average. When it comes to efficiency it's def objectively below average for a WR2, which he was part of the year last year. And he def got a WR2 snap count statistically, which is the problem with just throwing the number 600 around.

When you take this kind of approach to your player evaluation, Flournoy is clearly levels above Tolbert in the ran and pass game. So I might sneeze a little bit if Tolbert's getting snaps over these superior WRs against Washington.
Well said. That poster loves to throw out the 600 yard number and points to Tolbert being a similar producer to Deebo Samuel and Cooper Kupp last year and ignores that both of those guys had more yards in few games and significantly fewer passing snaps. 600 yards is a threshold that many JAGs have gotten to based on receiving a high volume of snaps.

There is a sample size red flag on Flournoy, but his career 1.62 yards per route suggests that he should have roughly 50% (or more) additional yards than Tolbert on the same snaps at his .92 y/rr. Its almost undeniable that Flournoy is the better player.

I think you have to make Flournoy WR 3 because he plays teams and is good at it.

Right? The context matters big time here, because if Tolbert's 600 yards meant anything, WR desperate teams would be calling for him right now knowing the depth we have at WR. I'm not really Tolbert hater, but he's a progress stopper at this point because we lucked into some talent at WR. As hard as it is to hit on talent, even at the top of the draft, we should be thinking the football gods and acting accordingly by refining the WR depth chart.

"There is a sample size red flag on Flournoy, but his career 1.62 yards per route suggests that he should have roughly 50% (or more) additional yards than Tolbert on the same snaps at his" - but looking at the context like you're doing here is the right approach for all of us armchair GMs, when you see guys with 800-1200 yards all day on the same snap count

Just curious what y'all think. I'm all for getting the best players for your system on the field.

At this point, I think it's pretty clear Flournoy is developing and has a much higher ceiling than Tolbert.

As much as it hurts, I think you have to give Flournoy the nod at WR3 on the depth chart. He has earned it.
Tolbert had the most snaps of any Cowboys WR in the Panthers game...

Isn’t he already WR3? After the last two games, he’s been getting the targets that go with that spot.

Nope. Our coaching staff is guilty of draft pick nepotism. This is just silly. It feels like Tolbert's out there on as many plays a Lamb and Pickens, but he his production is nonexistent.

He's out there again like every play. We just put him out there for intimidation since he's such a phyical beast

Flournoy should be # 3 . Tolbert got a holding penalty today that’s about it. And Flournoy would make Lamb & Pickens more dangerous
You know CD lamb got the same holding penalty on the exact same play like three minutes later is that what we're judging this by I believe the coaches know what they're doing you keep complaining when our team is dominating in a 44 to 22 point lead that our WR4 or WR5 should get more snaps is that what we're saying it's just ridiculous for you to be arguing about nonsense do you have them on a fantasy team or something I'm trying to figure out why you guys are upset when the Cowboys offense is pretty much number one in every category in the league minus a few here and there i'm just going by memory and you're complaining about some dude who is not part of this team in an impactful role..

I want to remind you that CD Lamb did the same thing on the same damn play it got cold for the holding just the same..

This is a forum it’s an observation . And when Tolbert gets a 70 plus yards TD’ and 100 yard games like Lamb try to come back with a post that’s relevant . Tolbert won’t be here next year when Flournoy is the third WR so there’s that as well .

When Tolbert starts putting up 100+ yards in a half like Lamb....or even a game he wont get scrutinized for a holding penalty. The issue is hes a non factor in an offense that is routinely putting up 400+ yards a game. Its actually tough for an NFL player to have such little production for such a high powered offense. Coming into the game today he was 87th out of 93 eligible receivers in terms of yards per route ran. That production is well below what almost any JAG off the street can give you.

Its a small problem compared to what we could be facing on this offense, but there is zero excuse to have Jalen Tolbert taking snaps from a very good looking developmental player in Flournoy. The only thin I can think of is that the Cowboys are hoping to showcase Tolbert in hopes of trading him, but that is backfiring with the lack of production.
