Mine was in 06 because it was the last time we had a HC who could lead a team. That team was no where near perfect but if not for a fluke play we probably get to the SB. Now we have had some good runs since but under Garrett I never felt like he could coach anywhere on par with other coaches and sadly I feel the same way with MM.

Geez, I expect to go to the SB every year when TC starts LOL We all as fans have that deep down crazy thought and dream. The season starts playing out then I'm Ok maybe we can win the Division as the season end nears I'm like ok maybe we can make it in as a WC. BY the time as it's winding down I hoping for a good draft pick! lol

Lol...Me too!

I just bought my annual $100 bet at Lake Tahoe last week (Didn't see Tony around the casino's at the golf tourney, did see Bret Baier). Can't help myself, eternal optimist.

Won $1,500 in 1992, $400 in 1993 and $350 in 1995, so I'm down about $600 or $700 or so. I got 20-1 odds this year, so I can get back into the black with a big win!...lol

We seriously had something in 2016. Youngest team in the league. Played a very consistent and repeatable style of football. Teams had a terrible record against us and a terrible record the week after us. It was the first time since the 90s that I felt we had a real hard core team that was other teams genuinely would rather not play against. Then Jerry went crazy and it all went to crap practically overnight.

I usually gauge my excitement for the year by measuring Jerry's optimism. If Jerry is optimistic, I think we haven't got a chance. When Jerry is pessimistic, I know we have a shot.

I get what Stephen is trying to do. He's trying to build and maintain for years but to win a SB in todays age you are going to have to overpay at times for that missing piece or 2. Imagine if they would have overpaid for a Gilmore type CB and or stud DT in 2017 or 2018. Our offense was pretty good but our defense needed the help.

You also have to be able to recognize where you are missing pieces. The we-like-our-guys Jones boys enjoy the smell of their own flatulence. They convince themselves that the talent is there, so the problem has to be the coaching staff. It couldn't possibly be misjudging the depth and quality of the roster because they know it's great.

They even went as far as believing the head coach was fine as well, and "their Landry" was given a decade to prove it. It's as if their egos - coupled with having jobs for life - get in the way of success, or something.

In the simplest of terms, this is why the Cowboys can't have more Lombardi trophies.

if parcells would of stayed one more year they would of had a chance in 2007 when he left any chance of them winning a superbowl went out the door with him garrett and wade were simply just not good enough and then their is jerry and son until they hire a real gm that knows how to build a winning team they are what they are middle of the road team built to make jerry lots of money

the cowboys were never going to the superbowl and win it with a rookie qb

Except the rookie QB isn't what did them in. It was - shocker - the defense.

Prescott threw for 300 yards and became the first rookie QB to toss 3 TD passes in a playoff game in the SB era. Zeke added 125 yards on the ground. That all added up to 31 points, which should've been more than enough to win a home playoff game.

But when you give up 4 TD drives of 75 yards or more, make no red zone stops, and can't even hold them for 30 seconds to force OT, you lose.

Their faith that every player will get better constantly exposes their lack of depth at many positions. Just look at tampa last year. They had weapons on offense and brady said go get Gronk, go get AB, they added fournette when they had a starting RB already. They didn't sit back and say na were good, they made it work and added as much help as they could.

Mike McCarthy won a Super Bowl.

Mike Fox won a Super Bowl.

Bruce Arians won a Super Bowl.

You don't need a great coach to win a Super Bowl.

Quarterbacks and great defenses win Super Bowls.

And front offices that provide talent and get out of the way.

This is a great question and kind of my thesis for the longest time. 2007 was really the best team since the early 90's. That team could have and most probably should have made the Super Bowl. I agree with other posters, there is no chance we beat NE as they smoked us in Dallas earlier that year.
They get there if Parcells is the coach.
2009 & 2014 were good teams, 2016 was more lightning in a bottle.... So fellow zoners think about this we have had basically 5 years out of the past 25 where the team had second round playoff aspirations. Remember we have not won a second round game since 1996. This is the thesis that I have been saying for the past several years.
Jerry realized that being just good enough is the secret. He does not care about winning a SB. He really just doesnt want to go 3-13. He is afraid of failure or taking a chance. Being safe and do what other teams have done is all he cares about. It's the truth no matter if anyone agrees or disagrees. The proof is in his behavior over all of these 25 years. He has stuck to being a GM, player personnel guy, hires puppet coaches who have no authority. If Jerry cared about winning a Super Bowl, this organization would have made more headway over th past quarter century. It is embarrassing to be in the same boat as the Lions and WFT as the only NFC teams to have not made a championship game. This is Americas's team? Name only.
Bad process equals bad results. Even the minor success that this team has had is all based on luck. Go back to 2018, the team is slated for a top 3-4 pick and they trade a number 1 to Oakland for Amari.. yes the result turned out good but the process was bad. I am sorry the process of trading a potential top 5 slot for a disgruntled WR usually will not work out . Even the Jones boys did not expect success until the 2019 season. Stephen Jones said so himself.
Going back to if Jerry actually wanted to win, he would have hired the best front office, best scouts, boadrooms full of analytics teams, etc. There is no salary cap on Front office.
Here are some additional facts. He is a Hall of Famer, most valuable franchise, he has 3 rings, and until recently he had squashed Jimmy Johnson. He is really the emperor who has not clothes. I am forever hoping things will be better, but I am resigned to the fact that every few years the team will go above .500 and make the playoffs. Winning consistently or having a culture of winning like NE, Balt, Pitts, GB, recently the Rams, SF, Seattle... this front office just doesn't approach football or really care enough to do that. It's a fact I am not negative I have just realized that the most success for the Cowboys is on youtube.
Jerry really just does not want to be in a rebuild. Even Jimmy was able to complete a total overhaul from 89-91... 1-15 to 11-5. Look at other teams now, rebuilds happen very quickly.
