No way I was stepping into this the last two weeks, because his game in NO was horrible, but I'd been impressed with his range and his playmaking in the fill in games prior...including his strip of Bush in the Lions game. He was involved in a lot of plays again, today. Not just the fumble return, but he saved the td on the long Jacobs run in the second quarter, and was involved in the passing game a number of times.

He's a player who's going to benefit from a year in a training program. And he needs to work on getting guys to the ground when he's in proper position to make a tackle. He'll get better at that, and we'll have to live with his growing pains as that happens. I still like the guy. That doesn't mean I don't want to see our S positions upgraded further, though.

I've been of this same mindset. The kid has some ability. He's got terrific speed and competes fearlessly. He reminds of Jim Leonhard. Give him a season to get a bit stronger and his tackling issues will be solved. Got a good nose for the football. Terrible, terrible game in NO but overall he hasn't been atrocious by any means for a UDFA forced into a starting role.

Then again...he was also one of the guys on the ground in the walk-in no-touch score in the fourth quarter, so, there's that. :)

I am giving Heath a pass as his being a Rookie lets him slide, no such excuse for Carter. This faux pas was extremely insightful/costly for Carter and what his future might be for the Cowboys as I am sure this will make the negotiation table talk. IMO not as bad as Mike Jenkins business decisions but will be discussed in the same vein as Leon Letts snow touch on thanksgiving.

It's pretty unbelievable that they both sat around and watched that happen, but, yeah, it looked worse for Carter, and it's got to be a symptom of the stuff the coaches have been getting on him about. Though, Carter did have a couple nice plays today, too, particularly that screen that he absolutely blew up.

I gotta admit, I thought he was going to be trucked by Jacobs over and over again today. Heath was able to tackle him and do it pretty well.

I think we have a guy who is athletic that needs experience to learn the game. He is going to have his moments. Both good and bad.

The problem with heath I notice.. is nothing he can really change[except in the off season]
He really isn't football strong; just look at him..he's the size of college safeties.
I want to keep him, every time he makes a tackle, he's smart about it.
He wraps up but a lot of the time he simply gets over powered.

I want him back, if not just for a back up or ST roll.

He needs to bulk up in the off season though

This is just my opinion, but I think his problem is that he knows he is not a good tackler, so he tries to over compensate by trying to go for the strip instead of the tackle. This leads to even worse tackle attempts.

I am guessing that Heath had a blind spot angle when Carter allowed the receiver to catch the ball, Heath felt that because Carter didn't act like he didn't touch the downed receiver that the player was downed. Still not super alert but not at fault to the degree of our starting linebacker. To respond to the can't tackle so he goes for the strip comment...Heath had 6 tackles while he went for those strips. Did anybody see a missed tackle attempt? No? Thought not. And one of our haters (risko just a few comments up the page) quoted "it must have been the only tackle he made all night"

38 TOUCHDOWN

He was SOOO out of place on the tackle of Cruz..... The darn ball fell right in his lap... Luck was on his side yesterday.

In his defense, He had a couple good solo tackles on Brown and Jacobs. Looks like he's starting to learn that players in the pros dont go down with just a hit, you have to wrap up.

Heath scooped up the fumble and scored. Those are the types of plays that didn't happen in the past.

Not gonna say he will be anything special, but he is improving and remember he's 22 year old undrafted rookie from Saginaw Valley State.

You make your own luck. Nothing happens by accident.

I thought that Heath stepped up his game tonight and was part of the solid bend don't break defense today that led to a critical division victory. Not to shabby for an off the street replacement.

That might be true but he will have a difficult time making the final 53 next year.

Also did you all forget that Heath was the safety who should have touched the Giant TE down so he would not just get up and walk in for a TD??

Yes that was Heath
