Where are the Jeff Heath haters now?

I can remember watching several Cowboys preseason games and on many plays I kept seeing this guy flopping around with tenacity on every play, and jumping in on every pile on. I was thinking to myself at that time, "who is this guy?" Well he ended up making the team and became a pretty nice player for my beloved Cowboys. His name, Bill Bates. Unfortunately, I have yet to see this from Heath although I would love to see a success story.

Ever dog has his day.
Jeff Heath, gosh bless him, made it a happy ocassion for us.
But wasn't that with Bruce Carter who didn't touch the receiver who later got up and scored a TD?
I bet his mama and daddy were just as pleased as you were with that pix and TD.

Archie and Edith:

"Mama, did you see what that stupid boy of yours just did?"

"Oh, Dadddy, now you know he ain't stupid. He's just excitable is all and he forgets things."

"Well, I sure noticed that other boy didn't forget to get up and run into the endzone. Are you sure that paternity test was done right?"

"Now, don't start that again. You know he is your boy. If you don't believe it, maybe Jeffy oughta take back that shiny new pickup truck out there in the drive."

"Now don't get carried away. There ain't no need to get in an uproar here, but, that boy is sometimes sure stupid. The guys down at Moe's are gonna give me a buncha bull about that bonehead play. And, that on top of the Lions game where Johnson made him look as stupid as he sometimes is."

"Well, I don't care. I'm busting out proud of Jeffy, even if he is excitable and sometimes forgets things."

Good thing he's had 9 tackles each in 2 of the past 3 games then.

I believe he leads the team in total tackles over the past 4 games.

Not bad for a guy who "can't tackle".

I guess you missed the game vs. the Saints.

C'mon man, Heath got abused that game. Missed 3 tackles that went for TD's.

On the TD he broke up for a PD, he would have had an interception if Wilcox hadn't tipped it away. It was coming down right into his hands.

Heath played well today, which is pretty amazing when you think that 12 months ago he played at Saginaw State College of Cosmetology and Lawnmower Repair. I think next year Heath and Wilcox are the starters and do very well, with Church a very good Nickel player instead of being a starter.

Played well today. And I guess he's made a good enough impression on the coaches because he's still the starter even with Wilcox healthy now.

Found this interesting. Wikipedia says:

"Jeff [Heath] was selected as the Big Play Player of the Year for kicking a game-winning 49 yard field goal to give Lake Orion a playoff victory and regional title over Sterling Heights Stevenson."

Dayam...the undrafted rook showed up again today. Almost led the team in tackles and did have a runner down behind the line of scrimmage. Solid again. Jeffrey Charlie Williams Bates Waters Heath looks like a keeper.

I'm still waiting for the ghost of Matt Johnson to arrive.

Well, the obvious answer is the coaches think he is a better safety than Wilcox. But, the fact is that a lot of times they were both out there. In fact, Wilcox prevented Heath's interception. (And, oh by the way, Heath made a great play on that ball.) I think they have been playing 3 safeties quite a bit.

He was good today. I like how he was in on some passes. He does have good range and takes good angles to make tackles, but his issue is he tries to hit vs just tackling. The last two games I've noticed how he isn't going for the hit as much.

He's playing safety along with Wilcox in some packages while Church plays up.

This Heath stuff must end... He's serviceable!

IDK. Right now he is, but there's no denying the guy gets himself in the frame a lot. S's can develop a lot in a year or two...just look at Barry Church's progression. I think he's a decent young player with heart and range whose weaknesses appear to be mostly correctible by adding strength and gaining some experience. Had he made that pick again tonight that Wilcox defended, that'd be yet another huge play at a key moment in a game.

And, since he got so much grief about the tackles in New Orleans, he made a touchdown saving tackle on that little fake-screen throw across the middle. And, he was in position to do that because he stayed home and played the safety position. I think Heath is getting better every game, and I'm beginning to think the defense overall is getting better.
