Where are the Jeff Heath haters now?

I still feel Heath is not a NFL starting caliber safety...?

Why would he? He's an undrafted FA, getting playing time cause of injuries but the experience will only help him, you can't go from division 2 program too start right away it takes sometime, coming in we didn't have expectations for this guy all of a sudden people wanted him too become John Lynch, his expectations are low and as much positive things we can get from him we will also have the negatives. His TD was just being at the right spot at the right time.

No way I was stepping into this the last two weeks, because his game in NO was horrible, but I'd been impressed with his range and his playmaking in the fill in games prior...including his strip of Bush in the Lions game. He was involved in a lot of plays again, today. Not just the fumble return, but he saved the td on the long Jacobs run in the second quarter, and was involved in the passing game a number of times.

He's a player who's going to benefit from a year in a training program. And he needs to work on getting guys to the ground when he's in proper position to make a tackle. He'll get better at that, and we'll have to live with his growing pains as that happens. I still like the guy. That doesn't mean I don't want to see our S positions upgraded further, though.

This is like when Eli threw a ball into Bryan McCann's chest a few years ago

But, he still can't tackle and is not even a good back up? The premise of the OP was to make folks who questioned Heath's talent to speak up. I spoke up :

What in the world... He's still not a starter to me. Wilcox needs his starting job back ASAP!!!! Him not touching the defender while down was inexcusable along with Bruce Carter!!!

Heath scooped up the fumble and scored. Those are the types of plays that didn't happen in the past.

Not gonna say he will be anything special, but he is improving and remember he's 22 year old undrafted rookie from Saginaw Valley State.

Have you been to the State of Saginaw Valley? I hear it's lovely.

I like the kid. Plays with a lot of heart. Got a ways to go before he belongs in a starting lineup though.

He's looking like someone who can be at least a solid backup. For someone coming from a small school that wasn't though enough of to be drafted high that's about what you can ask for at this point. He's a decent form tackler but lacks strength. The play that most people remember him for getting trucked on was a penalty on the Vikings. I don't think he should be getting a props thread yet, but at the same time he shouldn't be getting trashed completely either.

That might be true but he will have a difficult time making the final 53 next year.

Heath will make the 53 next year easily. Do you believe they would keep McCray over Heath? Unless they spend another draft pick on a safety and Mathewglass Johnson suddenly stays healthy, Heath is a shoo in on this roster next year.
