Where are the "Austin can't run routes/get open" threads now?

The attack on Miles wasn't his routes or his ability to get open. Speed will do that latter. The attack on him is his ability to sell his fakes. THAT would make him a great receiver. ...as long as he catches the ball! :)

Yes it was on his route running and ability to get open. No separation, only has speed but no body control so cant stop and cut, etc. That's the whole reason I started this thread. Selling his fakes was a extremely minor part of the debate.

They are preparing to brand him as fragile the next time he takes a big hit.

Makes as much sense as anything else....

Even a blind squirel finds a nut. One catch, one game. If he does that consistantly then I will revise my opinion of him, but to me he is still a journeyman player right now.

Route. Running. That is the topic.

That's flat out wrong. The safety on that play was Jermaine Phillips and he just got juked out of his socks and was quoted after the game saying he should've made the tackle. The safety on the other two plays was piscatelli, the white one.

And Austin's better route was actually the one Romo missed deep. He faked the slant and a sideline go, took an inside pattern and flat out blew past the corner. He looked so smooth doing it. Give respect where respect is due.

Thank you.

So even though you mentioned it, one game tells you everything about this guy?

Maybe you should wait on this "I'm right, you're wrong," post until mid season at least.

I mean, he did beat the Tampa version of RW31, didn't he?

But then all I asked was for him to show me.

One down, fifteen to go.

Wait for what? The original thread said he simply could not run basically anything but go routes. That's the point.

Love how everyone is changing it from his route running ability to how many catches he has in a game....

I doubt anyone is missing your point. Ignoring it, yes, but not missing it at all.

Nice play by Miles. He nearly ran 2 deep routes, which is what he's best at. On the play where he scored a TD, he actually adjusted, squared up and and caught Romo's pass which was right on the money, but not on stride. It's still a GREAT play by Miles and horrible tackling by the DB, who looks like hes playing flag football, and the safety. Again, this is probably what Miles is best at. Running straight, both on deep routes and on returns. Many people here would still like to see him run; ins, outs, come backs, slants, curls, posts.

 Thanks, I didn't think it was that difficult to grasp.

Guess you missed the route Romo overthrew him on...

Austin is one of the smoothest, most natural football players on the team.

The TD catch was big-time. He was well-covered, but made a fantastic adjustment, and then showed again how good he is with the ball in his hands.

I can't recall many situations where Romo threw to Austin and it was an incompletion because he was well-covered or dropped it. On the other hand, I can recall a handful of times where he was open deep and Romo overthrew him. Like in the Giants playoff game where he was open and Romo threw it 10 feet over his head.

Our STs present a real nightmare with Felix and Austin back there. If we ever get our blocking up to par, I believe our kickoff returns will be among the league's best.

LOL this post made me laugh....If austin was sooooo smooth with such good hands he would have been drafted much higher and would be starting by now. Austin has dropped several passes.

If TO was this great WR, he'd have been drafted in the 1st round. If Romo was good, he'd have gone drafted and all that other BS:banghead:

The jury's still out on how much Austin will improve as a wide receiver, but his ability or any player's ability often has very little to do with their entry into the NFL.

Oh one of "deep routes" you referred to? Only problem there is your inference is it was a go route. And yes, I can infer this because you go on further to name every other type route known to man saying if Austin could only run....

That other deep route on the left sideline was...I'll let another poster describe it:

He faked the slant and a sideline go, took an inside pattern and flat out blew past the corner.

Hmmm....seems there are elements in his route running there that you seek but for whatever reason, choose not to see...

There are tons of other examples. Let's stick with wide receivers. If some fans knew Steve Largent's story by heart, they would consider thinking twice before criticizing. Then there's the story of Drew Pearson...

No, I saw this post but didn't understand it. He faked both a slant and a go route? So faking a route is the same thing as running a designed slant route and fully executing?
