Where are the Rob Ryan lamenters today?

I was never a fan of angry Santa Claus, but brining in Monty wasn't a good move.

To be honest, the NO defense wasn't nearly as bad in 2012 as they looked. Bounty Gate had that team screwed up from the get go. That defense lost its head coach for the year... lost its defensive coordinator for the year... and was put in horrible positions all year long.

I'm not saying they were great, but they weren't nearly as awful as the stats say they were. Had they had their defensive coordinator and head coach they would have played much better. There was some talent there for Ryan to work with and he damn well had better improved their ranking a lot because he certainly should have.

What talent?

He was a 3-4 coordinator taking over a 4-3 defense that set records for futility.

And he had almost nothing to work with in terms of talent.

He took them from last to Top 5, and nobody can take that away from him. Meanwhile, we were the defense setting records in futility.

If you'd like to illustrate the talent he has now or had last year, I'd be glad to hear it.

Last year Ryans' defense was ranked 4th and just short of 4.6 yards per game by having the 2nd ranked defense in total yards per game. Before he took over they ranked 440.1 yards per game last in the NFL.

Marinelli was a head coach and went 0-15, however he does have a Superbowl ring.

Both haven't done much in the NFL aside from Marinelli 20 years ago.

Apparently, you weren't paying attention when Marinelli's was leading the league in turnovers in Chicago routinely.

And it's easy to call defenses when Drew Brees has you up three touchdowns all the time.

Why can't it be a good decision to fire Ryan, but a poor decision in naming his replacement?

When your defense gets incredibly worse AFTER you fired the guy and he takes his next team to a Top 5 finish while you set records in futility, I think it's a BAD ONE.

:lmao2:

Our defense so far has been a pleasant surprise, and here's the kicker, they're going to get a lot better as the season progresses.

If Spencer and Lawrence can add outside pass rush......

But I'd settle for middle of the pack this year. That would be a huge improvement.

Oh, give it up!

The desperation is just getting sad now.

Say what you want...Sean Payton was tearing Rob Ryan a new behind on the sidelines yesterday.

Rob Ryan taking a step back and bending forward is priceless. I would be surprised if the media did not milk this little sideline spat for all its worth this week.

On second thought, no I wouldn't. New Orleans is involved, not Dallas.

He had a really good season last year with a pretty bad defense talent wise, but let's ignore that cause he's started this season pretty bad and claim he sucks

Sums up the failed attempt nicely!

Can we put to rest the rues and cries for the departed Rob Ryan and his full-term beer gut?

Not only did he fail to show up for his own meetings at Valley Ranch routinely, his defense has coughed up two games in back-to-back weeks in New Orleans.

Sean Payton was visibly upset with him yesterday. Ryan doesn't have his brother's feel when it comes to when to call what.

Marinelli is eons better than Ryan when he has legitimate NFL players to work with instead of those misfits and vagabonds he had to patch together last year.

Aaaannddd the call out threads are back. Yay.

Wow!

Only on a Cowboys message board I guess...

Two games somehow negates a top 5 defensive finish last year?

And a decent defensive performance against an outright lousy quarterback somehow means the Dallas defense is now good?!?!

Marinelli gets a pass for 'misfits and vagabonds', as if Ryan has a defense chock full of Pro Bowlers?

These claims are laughable.

Maranelli didn't get much of a pass for losing six dlineman last year, so no pass for Ryan especially since almost half of his starters are first rounders.
Give me similar personal and I take Maranelli ten times out of ten.

Ryan never needed a "pass", while people are trying to give one to Marinelli.

Fact is that neither guy had the talent they needed, while only one still took his unit to a Top 5 ranking.

That fact can't be glossed over or erased no matter how desperate some 'Super Fans' may be to do so.

Posts like this are what is wrong with fans and even the Cowboys players.

It was 1 game. 1 game. OVerall Ryans body of work in New Orleans has been pretty darn good.

If the Dallas defense gets told how good they are all week and they actually believe it then we could start see'ing the same stuff as last year.

No. It's two games.

The Saints should be 2-0. Thanks to Rob Ryan, they are 0-2. He's blown two leads.

Oh, and he's pretty much stunk everywhere he's been until Drew Brees showed up.

That was Garrett, who couldn't stand his lack of work ethic and promptness.

Ian Fitzsimmons of 103.3 was working the sideline of a Jets game last year and when Rex heard he was from Dallas he said unsolicited, "You do know that Jerry fired my brother, right? Not Jason."

And if Ryan was that bad everywhere he'd been, why did Jason hire him in the first place? Or are you claiming that was Jerry...

I will just make the argument for this year so far...and we are only into the season two games so there is plenty of time to change things.

NO - 1st giving passing yards given up in the NFL at 647
Dallas - 20th at 424

NO - 11th in rushing yards given up in the NFL at 245
Dallas - 17th at 209

NO - 3rd in total yards given up in the NFL at 446
Dallas - 20th at 316

NO - 26th in sacks with 2
Dallas - 20th with 3

NO - 2nd in points given up in the NFL with 63 for a 31.5 points given up per game average
Dallas - 20th with 38 points given up with a 19.0 points given up per game average

NO - 23rd in INTs with 0
Dallas 9th with 2

NO 13th in total tackles with 101
Dallas 29th with 77

Seems like we have pretty much been better in every defensive category thus far this season except total tackles.

Again it is only two games into the season.

That clip demonstrates something I've always believed about Rob Ryan. He's bombastic, and passionate, but he's not a bad guy. He's a good soldier at the end of the day. He argues with Payton but he also submits to him and looks genuinely sorry about what must have been a bad call/decision. Having said this, I still think he needed to go. His defenses are all or nothing, just like his father's were.
