To be honest, the NO defense wasn't nearly as bad in 2012 as they looked. Bounty Gate had that team screwed up from the get go. That defense lost its head coach for the year... lost its defensive coordinator for the year... and was put in horrible positions all year long.
I'm not saying they were great, but they weren't nearly as awful as the stats say they were. Had they had their defensive coordinator and head coach they would have played much better. There was some talent there for Ryan to work with and he damn well had better improved their ranking a lot because he certainly should have.
Last year Ryans' defense was ranked 4th and just short of 4.6 yards per game by having the 2nd ranked defense in total yards per game. Before he took over they ranked 440.1 yards per game last in the NFL.
Marinelli was a head coach and went 0-15, however he does have a Superbowl ring.
Both haven't done much in the NFL aside from Marinelli 20 years ago.
Why can't it be a good decision to fire Ryan, but a poor decision in naming his replacement?
Our defense so far has been a pleasant surprise, and here's the kicker, they're going to get a lot better as the season progresses.
So Jerry made the right move firing him?...
Apparently, you weren't paying attention when Marinelli's was leading the league in turnovers in Chicago routinely.
And it's easy to call defenses when Drew Brees has you up three touchdowns all the time.
Rob Ryan taking a step back and bending forward is priceless. I would be surprised if the media did not milk this little sideline spat for all its worth this week.Say what you want...Sean Payton was tearing Rob Ryan a new behind on the sidelines yesterday.
He had a really good season last year with a pretty bad defense talent wise, but let's ignore that cause he's started this season pretty bad and claim he sucks
Can we put to rest the rues and cries for the departed Rob Ryan and his full-term beer gut?
Not only did he fail to show up for his own meetings at Valley Ranch routinely, his defense has coughed up two games in back-to-back weeks in New Orleans.
Sean Payton was visibly upset with him yesterday. Ryan doesn't have his brother's feel when it comes to when to call what.
Marinelli is eons better than Ryan when he has legitimate NFL players to work with instead of those misfits and vagabonds he had to patch together last year.
Wow!
Only on a Cowboys message board I guess...
Two games somehow negates a top 5 defensive finish last year?
And a decent defensive performance against an outright lousy quarterback somehow means the Dallas defense is now good?!?!
Marinelli gets a pass for 'misfits and vagabonds', as if Ryan has a defense chock full of Pro Bowlers?
These claims are laughable.
Maranelli didn't get much of a pass for losing six dlineman last year, so no pass for Ryan especially since almost half of his starters are first rounders.
Give me similar personal and I take Maranelli ten times out of ten.
Posts like this are what is wrong with fans and even the Cowboys players.
It was 1 game. 1 game. OVerall Ryans body of work in New Orleans has been pretty darn good.
If the Dallas defense gets told how good they are all week and they actually believe it then we could start see'ing the same stuff as last year.
Say what you want...Sean Payton was tearing Rob Ryan a new behind on the sidelines yesterday.
That was Garrett, who couldn't stand his lack of work ethic and promptness.
I read lips so here is what Payton was saying ..
"We look like last year's Dallas Cowboys out there! I just had a player call me Coach Garrett! I'm not Jason Garrett and you're not Rex Ryan!"
Oh, give it up!
The desperation is just getting sad now.
