We had a very good season in 16 but 17 looks a lot tougher on paper. Granted it's early and we don't know what is going to happen with the roster but here is what we think we know so far:

1. Romo is gone. Overall strength of QB position just declined.
2. First place schedule = tougher road
3. We appear to be losing several significant starters/role players: Church, Wilcox, Leary. Carr, Mo, Durant, McFadden, Williams, McClain and Free the turnstile is still around.
4. We won't be big players in Free agency.
5. We are drafting late so we will be getting what is left in each round.

I don't like what I am seeing so far. Hopefully Tapper, Jaylon and Lawrence are healthy this year and Heath becomes a viable starter.

We are thin at RB and one or two injuries could really derail this season. Teams have film on Dak and will try to make him do things he isn't as good at doing. 10 and 6 might be hard to attain this year.

Will see when dust settles but I don't think they are 13 win team next year. Too many changes on defenses may make it a lot worse. TBD

1. Romo was gone for most of last season too. It didn't matter.
2. Looking at strength of schedule of our opponents this past season we had one of the tougher roads already. It didn't matter. That was with a last place schedule. You never know in the age of parity.
3. None of those guys are stars and the only one that has left to this point is Church. None are irreplaceable by a long shot.
4. Who cares? We have not been players in free agency for some time and been better for it. We likely will see an uptick in participation due to us saving $54m off the cap tomorrow. You have no clue what we actually are going to do.
5. This draft is deep in DE, WR, and CB which is precisely what we need.

You have seen 24 hours of the FA period and you are already melting down.

You can find RBs that can help later in the draft and FA has only just begun.

I advise valium and some sleep.
I'm assuming the thread is over?

I'll stay optimistic. Nobody thought we'd win 13 games last season.

We'll always have a good shot as long as the OL/Dak/Zeke/Dez stay healthy. :starspin:

The whole 'deep draft' stuff is just, I'm sorry, nonsense. No one knows how deep a draft is until a couple years after.
The draft grades for players in those specific positions are higher for mid round picks this year.

That isn't nonsense just facts.

Honestly this offseason with as many moving parts as have on defense will tell me how committed we are to next season or the same old "building for the future" still mantra

There comes a time when you just need to circle the wagons and go all in
bad year for that thinking however next year I can see some FA action and cap space.
We'll have a better idea also what we're needing

This is getting old.

We changed our free agency outlook 5 years ago when we were active spenders chasing Brandon Carr and a host of other free agents.

Since then?

We have had arguably two of our best seasons in over 20 years in the last 3 years. I know we are still not getting the results we want but I will give the team the benefit of the doubt.

I'll tell you what is getting old...... watching our better players walk because we don't have the money to keep them in the fold. I am not lamenting the loss of some of those guys but I can see us having more holes to fill than draft picks to fill them and no money to spend to speak of in free agency. I'm not sure how anyone would view that as a great plan.

It was two or three years ago it was supposed to be the deepest draft ever for RBs and it's been a flop
Nonsense are not this is the way the NFL is structured you buy your ticket you take your chances

Right in Jason Garrett purgatory . 8-8 is smiling. "How we doing guys"...
Jason Garrett... 3 SB wins as a backup QB
Tony Romo... 0 SB wins, and was 100% loser in games he played as a backup QB

Garrett coaches us to 13 wins and you have a problem with that? Your perspective way screwed up.

Who has walked thus far? Williams, Church, and Wilcox? Church wasn't worth the asking price, Wilcox is a JAG, and Williams can be replaced in the draft.

Better players walk? Which one? Leary?
Sure, it would suck if we had no option behind him, but we do. We have a younger, cost controlled option in Collins.

Church? Wilcox?
Two limited strong safeties?
Sure, there's a risk on letting them go and trying out Frazier/Heath/Draft pick, however, would you want to match a 4yr 28m offer from Jacksonville for a physical safety who is 29?

Williams?
Sure, his leaving has a decent impact, but there's this thing called the draft. Also, we could sign a receiver. Crazy times in the NFL I tell ya.

The fact we haven't won a super bowl, or even advanced to a championship game in 22 years, tells me our front office hasn't done well enough.

You don't want to "build" a team in free agency. But it can shore up some immediate holes in a team without sacrificing a season or two by waiting.
do you see no improvement in the FO

"All in" doesn't work in the NFL. Too many players on a team. Too many teams. Roster limitations. Payroll limitations. Injuries are a wildcard.

"All in" simply doesn't work.

I saw someone on my ignore list was jabbering to me about something so I checked it out and it's just you. Giving merit to having Romo as a backup is what is being done by the OP. Thank you for seeing that it has no merit. Now, go back on IGNORE, lol. :muttley:
