I wouldn't be surprised if we have another 8 and 8 year upcoming. Tougher schedule and it seems like a quarter of our team is walking with no one to replace them.

Contracts i'm not sure about honestly but the FA's have been their plan even if you disagree with it.
I have been thinking next season they might go after a bigger FA if one makes sense.

2. First place schedule = tougher road ......... this is a fallacy, only 2 games or teams are a result of our finish last year.
All the other games/teams we would still play if we had been 0-16 .
It is our div(6 games), another NFC div, and a AFC div and then 2 other games, those 2 are based on how a team did the previous year.
GB & Atlanta will be those 2 gamess.

So, how is it a fallacy?

1. Romo was gone for most of last season too. It didn't matter.
2. Looking at strength of schedule of our opponents this past season we had one of the tougher roads already. It didn't matter. That was with a last place schedule. You never know in the age of parity.
3. None of those guys are stars and the only one that has left to this point is Church. None are irreplaceable by a long shot.
4. Who cares? We have not been players in free agency for some time and been better for it. We likely will see an uptick in participation due to us saving $54m off the cap tomorrow. You have no clue what we actually are going to do.
5. This draft is deep in DE, WR, and CB which is precisely what we need.

You have seen 24 hours of the FA period and you are already melting down.

You can find RBs that can help later in the draft and FA has only just begun.

I advise valium and some sleep.

So drafting one DE, one WR and one CB consumes 50% of our current available draft picks and of course doesn’t account for a “Jerry value too good to pass up” pick i.e. currently injured or suspend or about to be suspended or a TE we won’t know how to use, while we may lose 4 starting DBs several contributing DL and our 2nd WR and we might need a LB depending on how Jerry’s last “value pick” recovers from his leg problems.

And of course how likely all our picks will make the grade?

In addition since we’ll be signing the cheaper FAs who’s to say they’ll be even as good as we’ve just lost and of course it will takes them some time to gel with their new team mates.

Yes things will change but there are many obstacles to overcome if we’re to compete successfully next campaign.

Got to love the yearly why aren't we signing anyone to replace our FAs, ~5 hours before deals can officially be signed for UFA* players.

Can we hold off on the panic button till maybe after a week or two, or miraculously wait till after the draft?

*cut players don't count

The whole 'deep draft' stuff is just, I'm sorry, nonsense. No one knows how deep a draft is until a couple years after.
It was two or three years ago it was supposed to be the deepest draft ever for RBs and it's been a flop

Wat? Gurley (rough year, but still) Gordon, David Johnson, Tevin Coleman and Jay Ajayi ...

And I am a fan of the teams decision to be more financially responsible, and still would like to see a middle ground. It really sucks seeing Ware, Romo and Demarco leave for nothing as well.

That's sort of how it appears to be shaping up. It would be nice to see us get a few of our free agents back on value deals to give us some flexibility in the draft.
The main reason I think that is Garrett. He has proven he can't string 2 winning seasons together.

I'll tell you what is getting old...... watching our better players walk because we don't have the money to keep them in the fold. I am not lamenting the loss of some of those guys but I can see us having more holes to fill than draft picks to fill them and no money to spend to speak of in free agency. I'm not sure how anyone would view that as a great plan.

We can free up the money to sign anyone we want if we chose to. We are just not in the business of handing out big dollars to players on the wrong side of their careers.

We made it a point to resign everyone after the 07 season. That was a big mistake and it cost Romo valuable years. We don't want to do the same to Dak, you have to let these guys walk. There are not many players on our defense that isn't easily replaceable.

You're more than welcome to believe what you want. Every single scout disagrees with your assessment though.

I just have a feeling that we are counting on Dak and Zeke to carry the day again like we did last season.
As we should.....your QB and #4 overall RB, both pro bowlers, better lead your team behind our OL....and our defense will hopefully be as good or better than last year.

If we resign McFadden and our OL is healthy, our run game will prohibit any thought of 8-8. Our offense only stops itself. Whether we win the division or get a wild card trip to the playoffs will all be determined by the defense. Our offense chewed up some of the best defenses in the league last year, so how much better can those on the first place schedule be.

You can't compare those 90s Cowboy's teams to this era. Free agency dictates there never will be a team like again.

To an extent but teams can keep a big portion of the core together as the pats have. Saying it can't be done? NE I think proves that wrong

We had a very good season in 16 but 17 looks a lot tougher on paper. Granted it's early and we don't know what is going to happen with the roster but here is what we think we know so far:

1. Romo is gone. Overall strength of QB position just declined.
2. First place schedule = tougher road
3. We appear to be losing several significant starters/role players: Church, Wilcox, Leary. Carr, Mo, Durant, McFadden, Williams, McClain and Free the turnstile is still around.
4. We won't be big players in Free agency.
5. We are drafting late so we will be getting what is left in each round.

I don't like what I am seeing so far. Hopefully Tapper, Jaylon and Lawrence are healthy this year and Heath becomes a viable starter.

We are thin at RB and one or two injuries could really derail this season. Teams have film on Dak and will try to make him do things he isn't as good at doing. 10 and 6 might be hard to attain this year.

Where were we last year 3/9/16? BEFORE THE DRAFT OR FA?

We're thin on D. The draft must produce 5 contributors.

We'll probably sign Seattle's 8th string DE, Detroits 4th string dime CB and Oaklands backup long snapper.

You act like every other team has a full roster and doesn't miss on draft picks.

I do wonder if another team has lost the number of players we have.

Seems like every time I turn around we are losing someone else, and the division is upgrading. Granted our D wasn't great anyway, and no reason to pay old guys alot, but we couldn't even face an offense going 3 WRs right now.
