We're thin on D. The draft must produce 5 contributors.

We'll probably sign Seattle's 8th string DE, Detroits 4th string dime CB and Oaklands backup long snapper.
Hey you cant expect too much out of this team...after all we did make a splash and sign butler as the giants signed Marshall and the eagles sign smith and jeffery.

Where are we at this point? We'll, how many of our free agents have signed with other teams? That's just about we're we are right now. But there is good news as in about a week the Boys will go to the Free Agency Thift Store and pick up a couple so called under valued free agents like Brice Butler

You act like every other team has a full roster and doesn't miss on draft picks.
And how many have 21 free agents of which 7 are starters and will by it's own admission spend little in Free Agency?

Oh! and we still want to compete for a SB.

Yea! it's all rosy

McClain is the only one that really hurts.

I feel good about the future of this club, With the new triplets all growing up together and a great OL in front of them. yes we will lose some players in FA, I do find it funny that some of these loses are guys who have been whipping boys for many fans but now you would think the sky is falling. I think Cowboys will make some moves in FA to help sure up some areas and of course lean on the draft.
I have us as a maximum of 10-6 at this time for this year. That should be good enough to win the division. Of course if the defense (DL) is not made better in this draft that number could/will drop as low as 8-8. The idea of free agents at low cost is exactly what we had before, this makes for an average defense which is what we had before. So, I am hoping that the scouting department has its best year ever and the draft plus UDFA will be winners for us. If not, then the chase for a Super Bowl will be out of reach again and we just try to be competitive (again).

Yeah replacing JAGs with cheaper JAGs now. Hope we find a few stars in the draft(harder to do at #28 instead of #4), cause if not we are staring at the same lack of D we had last year.

They are hoping to hit the lottery again, in the draft, but if you buy lottery tickets......that doesn't work alot. Cap space is good for the future though, just not good for 2017.

I suggest Leary will hurt too.

The OL was better with Leary than it was with Collins.

And let's see who else we lose and who replaces them.

Not really. Leary struggled against the Giants more than Collins did

For the first few games Zeke was not running the plays right after missing most of preseason. He started to follow/setup blocks and things improved.

Collins is much better in space, deals with quickness better, and is almost as strong inline. Collins doesn't have Leary's natural leverage or consistency but he is at least as nasty a finisher.

2014 the line with Leary was dominant.
2015 Leary got hurt and was replaced by Collins and the line wasn't as good.
2016 for the best part of two games Zeke not withstanding the line was similar to 2015.
Collins gets hurt and Leary replaces him and the line was back to 2014 form.

And pointing out one game where a player didn't play well is not indicative of the overall performance (How did Tyron Smith look against Miami's Olivier Vernon two years ago?)

We had a very good season in 16 but 17 looks a lot tougher on paper. Granted it's early and we don't know what is going to happen with the roster but here is what we think we know so far:

1. Romo is gone. Overall strength of QB position just declined.
2. First place schedule = tougher road
3. We appear to be losing several significant starters/role players: Church, Wilcox, Leary. Carr, Mo, Durant, McFadden, Williams, McClain and Free the turnstile is still around.
4. We won't be big players in Free agency.
5. We are drafting late so we will be getting what is left in each round.

I don't like what I am seeing so far. Hopefully Tapper, Jaylon and Lawrence are healthy this year and Heath becomes a viable starter.

We are thin at RB and one or two injuries could really derail this season. Teams have film on Dak and will try to make him do things he isn't as good at doing. 10 and 6 might be hard to attain this year.
The only player I'm remotely worried about losing was Leary. Being ready for a run you can't have enough OL who are proven at this level. Dak has all the skills needed to be a super star in this league, but more importantly he has a great head. However Dak's biggest asset is his vision, you can teach reads, but the ability to see and process the whole defense at once is rare. Very rare.
We have many moving parts this year and a tougher division and schedule
I don't see us repeating last year's record, but we'll win the division.
Where we go from there is on this coaching staff.

The homers in this thread are too funny

They have spent years telling us how Garrett is building a team and how rookies need time to learn the NFL and make an impact

Now they're telling us that losing several starters is "no big deal" we will just replace them with JAGs (who will need to learn a new system) and rookies (who will need time to learn a new system and adjust to the NFL) lol

Now when the team struggles this year they will have ready made excuses

"The players are learning a new system what do you expect"

"He is a rookie what do you expect"

And so we start the "building process" all over again

Well the HC of the Falcons process took a long time.

Yeah after a while, you get tired of hearing the same ol bs.
