You’re right that those guys aren’t the standard - the market has increased Since Garopplo and Cousins signed. As for Garoppolo, sure he was short of $30MM, but he also only had something like 80-90 regular season NFL passes under his belt.
And what are you suggesting this proves? I'll tell you what it proves to me. It proves that people don't pay attention. The 49ers did that deal with Garoppolo because they had cap to spend in the short term and they had zero at QB. They needed somebody to put a good spin on the entire Kaepernick debacle and Garoppolo was it but seriously look at his contract. Look at what it actually is. Hell, I'd sign Dak to that deal today if he would take it because it was essentially a two year deal. After this season, the 49ers could easily be out of that deal. After 2019, the 49ers have Jimmy G in a deal that they can walk away from. I guess what I am trying to say is that even though the deal is reported as a 5 yr, 137 mil deal with an annual of 27.5, it's really not unless the 9ers decide to keep it that way. It's not a 30 mil deal for an average QB. It's basically a 28 mil annual for two years. I mean, I'd sign Dak to that right now. You gotta pay attention to what these guys are actually signing, in terms of contracts and then look at it from the stand point of what the real market is. Average guys aren't getting long term 30 plus million dollar deals. That's not happening. Even Wentz's deal is not a long term 30 mil plus deal. I know it's reported that way and I know everybody wants to look at it that way but it's really not. This whole thing reminds me of the Murray deal years ago. Philly offered Murray a contract that wasn't really as good as the one the Cowboys offered, long term but the money looked bigger. The truth is that the contract was short lived and the idea was to get Murray out of Dallas and that's exactly what happened. This Wentz deal is similar in that it's reported as a 30 plus deal and in reality, it's really an extension that bumps Wentz to 26/27 for 6 years annually. We, as fans gotta be smarter then that. We are allowing teams like Philly to mess with us because our fan base isn't smart enough to get what's right in front of our faces at times.
Jerry is generous to a fault. If he's making an offer to Dak, it's more then fair, I would bet my house on that. Jerry is not a guy who low balls his stars, especially the starting QB.
Anyway, that's my opinion on it. Have a great weekend Omer.
