Yeah we all knew they were going to draft Micah and Tyler. They also told everyone they were trading for Gilmore and Cooks. Most media and fans thought Zeke was coming back for one more season.
They wanted Surtain or Horn and were unprepared for both being gone at pick 10. This was known and they proved it when they took a little war room camera timeout so they couldn't be seen on the camera trying to figure it out. Philadelphia saved them because they desperately wanted to jump the Giants for Devonta Smith. Rule One of drafting is that you never trade away from a great player. They traded away from Parsons at 10 because they didn't realize he was an elite pass rusher (no one really did) and they didn't want to draft an in-the-box linebacker at 10. Now, some people in that room really wanted Micah. At least one scout, Chris Hall, and Quinn were advocating for him. McClay as usual, was awaiting his ordered opinion from the Jones. McCarthy was also surprisingly mum on the debate. So, when Micah was still there at 12, they took him. Stephen was so hell bent on getting a Corner that they reached on Kelvin Joseph in the 2nd despite some objections about his competitiveness, maturity, and a ton of other red flags.

Stephen is much more concerned with being right than being good. It's a huge problem. Fast forward to today, and Jerry is getting irritated and overruling Stephen on some personnel tactics.

Oh, and some of us knew they liked Tyler last year too. They are not good at keeping their choices/preferences a secret because both of the Jones can't stop talking about how football smart they are(n't).

What? Everybody absolutely knew we were drafting Tyler. Are you kidding? They didn’t even want to draft Micah. He wasn’t their plan. Their plan went to crap. That happens.
It’s sarcasm

I always liked Tyler as a prospect and said he was the type of player that I could see the Cowboys take a chance on but XWalker and Timb2 was the only one saying that the Cowboys should draft him on the board. I heard about Belt mention that he was a guy the Cowboys could take about a few hours before the draft. Joseph and Parsons where Quinn selections. He worked both of them out at their pro days.

I’m just trying to figure out which TE they like. They’re looking for a receiving option. Kincaid is definitely a top target, I’m not sure if they prefer Mayer or Musgrave. I don’t like Musgrave but Belt is speaking as if he’s a target
Other teams have a say too, thats what makes it hard to figure

Absolutely true..I find it almost impossible that 3 TEs will go before our pick..that’s why I think they’re confident they will get 1 they really like for the pick they have

Fully understand a 1st round selection is an investment for the life of his rookie contract. However, this franchise usually starts their 1st rounders day 1 and they usually take high floor, over high upside selections. Tyler Smith probably fits the latter, but he was the outlier.

I see it as the opposite. In the first 2 rounds, Will McClay almost always takes either the clear-cut BPA, or a high-risk ceiling shot.

Look at the last 5 years

2018: LVE (ceiling shot), Connor Williams (safer high-floor pick)
2019: Trysten Hill (I'd call him a ceiling shot, but it was more of a stupid pick).
2020: CeeDee Lamb (BPA), Diggs (BPA by a mile)
2021: Micah Parsons (kind of BPA, kind of ceiling shot), KJ (ceiling shot)
2022: Tyler Smith (ceiling shot), Sam WIlliams (ceiling shot)

Dallas starts guys fast, but they will almost always gamble on elite athleticism early. You pretty much have to throw a Martin or Lamb type dude in their face for them to not do it.

One interesting thing this year, is that the two most connected prospects to the Cowboys seem to be Kincaid and Steve Avila. Avila is a good but not great kind of athlete, and we'll see how Kincaid does at his Pro Day, but I think he'll test in the Zach Ertz zone. For TE and OL, the more "Cowboys" type prospects I'd expect would be Luke Musgrave and Anton Harrison.

The DC attendeding the Pro Day does not mean the DC automatically signs off on him.

Joseph was an insisted upon pick by Stephen. Do you expect Quinn to battle against the egomaniac millionaire who signs his check?

The Cowboys don’t work like that bro. Why do you think McLay and Quinn stay here instead of taking other jobs.

Belt loves Mustgrave, he is the only one I don't like. Did also talk with Kincaid, who would be ideal for the passing game. Mayer is the type they have always targeted in the past, will MM want more of a oversized receiving type over the inline blocker?
Musgrave's combine, in particular his 10 yard split and jumps, were very good. He didn't have that wow moment like Washington's 20 yard shuttle, but his scores will probably have him in the highest tiers of TE's. I can see the interest, however if we are going with a guy not used a ton in the passing game I'd prefer Washington

They are all very good prospects, hard to determine which one fits bests as we don't know how the offense will look under MM and a new OC. We have heard they want to run the football more, which makes players like Mayer, Washington the most attractive.

Yes, they always target elite athletes. Really think Ringo is going to be on their radar at 26, he checks many of their boxes, accept his length came up a little short. With CB/WR filled for next season and picking so late, it is going to be very difficult projecting their 1st rd pick this yr.

Musgrave tested as an elite athlete. His RAS score was through the roof. My issue w him is it doesn’t show up on film. I do not see that athlete on the field at all. He’s awful w the ball in his hands.

Interesting take. I wouldn’t mind an OT at all at 26 if one falls as it could get us cheap at the position at RT or replace Tyron and cut ties. Tyler had an 8.7 RAS score. Here are a few RAS studs this year that could be within range:

Darnell Wright - 9.47 (likely 1st round)
Blake Freeland - 9.82 (likely 2/3rd round)
Jaelyn Duncan - 9.43 (likely 2/3rd round)

Wright is a guy that has been picking up a. it if 1st round steam lately. Go watch his tape against Will Anderson - I was pretty much sold on that alone.

Can I change my pick in our bet from Kincaid to Musgrave?
