I think this FO is most likely to be a lot of B and possibly some of C, as well. They likely know by now that they're not the sharpest football guys in the NFL but are just delusional enough to think they might luck into a SB situation if they play their cards right. Problem is they aren't bold enough to get there, when it comes to spending what it takes. As long as their Texas fans fill their stands, regardless, they're perfectly content with that.

A. They believe their way. Manage the cap draft for the future. Spend as little as possible and make a bunch of money. It’s really nothing to do with football it’s business

If once again the Cowboys front office chooses this off-season to go the bargain basement route in free agency to enhance their roster, what does it say about their thinking? What is their logic? Which of these phrases is most true?
  • A. They honestly believe “their way” (despite all the evidence of the last three decades to the contrary) is going to somehow win a championship.
  • B. They really don’t know how to build a roster that can compete for a championship and know it, but don’t care enough to change or just hope they get lucky.
  • C. They are completely delusional and believe their own PR.
  • D. All of the above.
At this point, I believe it’s either B or C.
You?
It’s C. They actually think this team is good enough. Just look at zeke scenario as perfect evidence of that.

Pretty much.

There’s no pressure here for more success. A playoff contender is all they need to hype their iconic brand.

you believe writers who are not at the ranch and before everything even starts? lmao good one be the sheep lol overreact to articles made to make you click read and overreact, they and this pace all said we had a historically bad offseason, and our roster would at best with luck win 9 games..afer dak went down 5 games was the predictions. hmm, lots of people were WRONG. apparently, they built team and coached them well enough to make the 2nd round. not bad for horribly built team with crap puppet coaching, and FO who doesn't care.
I hope you remember making this post when training camp starts. Past history says Jerry and spawn will sit on their thumbs and do nothing. I'm not sure why you are convinced it will be different this time around.

Yep

Those later round picks Tuna took don’t work with Jethro cause he doesn’t have an eye for talent. That’s why he’s willing to take those risk with injury history or problem players with talent that drop in draft.
Jerry has this non-football way of doing things. He focuses on one thing about a player.

W/ DBs it's speed. He pays no attention to lateral agility and burst, just speed.
W/ DT's it's height. He's so focused on them being able to bat down an occasional pass, that he consistently gets guys who can't hold down the LOS.
W/ WRs it's height again. He doesn't even appear to comprehend the term "creating separation". He appears to believe that all you have to do is just throw the pass up for grabs to a tall guy.
W/ OL it's 2nd level blocking ability. That's why we consistently draft guys who move well, but get pushed around at the LOS.

He also falls in love w/ INT numbers. That's why we drafted MO, when a simple skillset evaluation screamed that he was not worth trading up for.

On D, as soon as Jerry finds himself his war daddy, he goes back to focusing on O. Man, so many people have no idea what Ware was up against, having to create a pass rush completely by himself w/ very little help from the DTs or the other edge rushers. Ware should be lauded for his extremely high sack numbers and the fact that he completely carried that D.

Need a competent GM.

Great post Bob , but it's option B all the way. The will stumble and fumble their way to a few near SB runs, that in itself will have you posting in the future about our greatest near misses.
Dont forget SJ will be commanding the ship until around the mid 2040's if he follows in his dads footsteps.

E. They just care about being In the conversation year after year. They won't risk an extended period at the very bottom to try to win a championship. They want the media to talk about the Cowboys and the fans believing each year. Stupid fans prove them right again and again.

what is the ideal way to roster build?

I bet we could put the top 5 free agent spenders of the past 10 years and Id be shocked if we had more than 2 SB winners in that bunch.
A blend of both. Find that one key FA and go get him, then backfill the rest and hit the draft.

No one here is saying the Cowboys should go out and buy up 3-4 big time FAs. But one key one? Sure would be nice.

A. Their egos make them believe they will build a Super Bowl team their way.

you know in the early 90s when we got Haley, Deion, had the Herschel Walker trade. It had nothing to do with it
fwiw, Jerry did go get Deion. That was after Jimmy was gone.

And getting Deion is what caused us to fall. We won that 3rd super bowl because we still had a great team, had very little to do w/ Deion.

What FA signing last year would have made us better than the Chiefs?
I’d say none

You don't think Deion Sanders played a big role in Dallas getting to and winning the 1995 Super Bowl?
Really?

Gotta look beyond one year.

It was the last 5-6 years where we failed. Think about if we have Hargrave, Wagner, Alim McNeil, Fletcher Cox, and some others on this team. What if we had taken Kelce instead of Escobar?

That's why what Jerry does is just so bad. Those terrible draft choices add up. Right now, Kelvin Joseph is hurting us badly. It was a very stupid pick. Those type of picks hurt a team for years. And we don't have a saavy enough GM to overcome.

Really?
No. A small role.

And paying him that much dough is what caused our downfall. We were winning super bowls because we had a stacked team, not because of any one player. When we started letting that depth walk and weren't smart enough to find replacements, that's when we stopped winning super bowls.

Think about it. If Deion was that important, why didn't we win another in the next 4-5 years?

How does something Jerry did 29 years ago have any bearing on how he does things now?

It doesn't.

Maybe I'm forgetting one but as far as I can recall, the last very big move Dallas has made for an "outside player" was trading for Cooper in 2018
That was similar to what the Eagles did to get AJ Brown.

All the other huge deals since then have been for our own guys....I think.
