Which offensive line would you prefer - 2007 or 2014?

2007 = Flozell Adams + Kyle Kosier + Andre Gurode + Leonard Davis + Marc Colombo

2014 = Tyron Smith + Mackenzie Bernadeau + Travis Frederick + Zack Martin + Doug Free

I think I'd still choose the 2007 line, but the 2014 line isn't far behind in quality.

The 2007 line was strong, but not great athletically, which came back to haunt them in the playoffs. The only player on that line that was any good in space was Kosier.

The 2014 line seems to be plenty strong (maybe not quite as powerful as the 2007 line) but with a lot better movement skills overall. The only guys somewhat questionable in that regard are Leary and Frederick, and I believe Frederick has a much better understanding of positioning downfield than Gurode did.

I take the more athletic line that also isn't lacking enough power to push people around.

i love the "its not even close" comments, Those are just funny. The 2007 Oline has something this line doesnt have yet , nor may never have because its something you cant teach, either the players have to get to together and do it or your player has it already ie Marc Colombo. Bar none Marc Cololmbo wasnt the best lineman ever, but he had attitude and he had fight and that 2007 line "imposed" its will on the opposing DLines. It just didnt block or do its job, it than started telling Dlines, "Get out of our way" and we had some good plays from that year.

Let me remind others as well that line was a "unit" they meshed well, they knew their assignments and they were very good, maybe not individually, and of course everyoe can find a better player, (just wait til they are cut by Dallas or not a Dallas player) but together they got the job done well and did it together.

I'll take the one that can pull and get to the second level with ease. The current line.

2014, this group will be a top 3 offensive line in the league. Mark my words

Ill take the 1995 offensive line.

LT - Mark Tuinei*+ (6 foot 5...302 pounds)
LG - Nate Newton*+ (6 foot 3...318 pounds)
C - Ray Donaldson* (6 foot 3...311 pounds)
RG - Larry Allen*+ (6 foot 3...325 pounds)
RT - Erik Williams+ (6 foot 6...324 pounds)
* = Pro Bowler
+ = All-Pro

2201 rushing yards. 29 Rushing TDs. 4.4 YPC

Only 18 Sacks Allowed

2014 for sure. Remember the Minni playoff game? Our oline and TE's were absolutely terrible protecting and opening holes, when it came to crunch time and that poor blocking got us booted out of playoffs pretty quick...
The Seattle/Denver Super Bowl was similar - Romo had no time and was constantly jostled, hit, rushed, flushed, etc - just like Manning was a few months back.
This 2014 group has a lot more upside!
Leary's knee worries me a bit, and I had high hopes for Parnell (still do, but getting a bit late - plus he is a free agent at end of year I think) - so depth still worries me, but the 3 1st rounders are all HITS it certainly seems, even as early as it is to say that about Martin......(just seems fine!).

Nate at only 318 pounds...really...lol.

This line hasn't played one snap of real football yet. I don't think I can answer this question yet.

Zack Martin is a rookie and this line still has much to prove before they can be considered a top unit. There are some nice building blocks though and they're young. Just not enough evidence yet to know what we have.

If the OP is asking which line I'd take right now for one season, I'm probably leaning towards 2007. Those guys were seasoned vets and still all playing at a high level. Plus I don't have to project them as being good, they actually were.

The one that won't go down the tubes in 3 years because of age.

This.
The 2014 line has three starters 23 years old or younger. That's amazing.
Plus, Martin is fully capable of moving to RT later on if needed.

The 2007 oline was overrated and it showed in the Giants Playoff Game. Romo made them look good during that season.

The Giants brought extra rushers.

5 offensive linemen can't block 6 pass rushers. It's impossible.

You have to be kidding me. Wow.

2014 and it isn't close.
If we're looking at it in a vacuum, for one game, I don't think its that big of a difference.

I think you could make the argument that the interior of the 07 line was superior and Columbo was better than Free.

I think the responses in this thread prove recency bias.

Many forget that the 2007 line had 3 Pro Bowlers and was a significant strength for much of that season.

2014 - Those guys from 2007 would be too old to be any good this year. :D

I realize you're joking. But in case there are actually any fans here who misunderstand, I'm referring to the 2007 line in, well, 2007's age and physical condition.

I would take 2014 - you'll have them for a lot longer at a high level, and Tyron Smith is a better talent than anyone from 2007.

I'd take the 2014 line, as seeing the 2007 line broke down completely by 2010. As they say, hindsight is 20-20.
