Because I saw him back off tackles twice and run behind piles. He will engage when someone else engages first. I HATE that.
That's not true I saw him on a wr bubble screen run up and make the tackle. Another time he came up to make the tackle and missed but the effort was there.......both times were single coverage and nobody else tackled but you can continue this soft campaign

There's always practice squad and Woods and White may very well both end up on there. Contrary to popular belief....the Cowboys aren't cutting all their veterans for rookies. They need some vets out there.

Who on earth would trade for someone "almost used up" and undersized? You guys kill me requesting guys get traded because they suck but then expect another team to actually want to trade or them lol.
Woods or White will not make it through waivers

Biggest pet peeve of mine is an NFL DB who's afraid to stick a helmet on a ball carrier. Your in the NFL so play like a man or go to the arena league.
Saw enough of that with the two (Carr/Claib) we let go last year.

I agree. Young DBs who can cover get picked up quickly. All the DB has to do is show some promise and he will get picked up.

I ask myself this as well:

Why would the Cowboys draft so many defensive backs if they didn't have the roster space to keep them?

Blanton has done nothing to establish a role for himself on this team, much less be a lock. And with the position flex Awuzie has shown, the team can afford to go light at safety as well.

I think they keep 4 there:

Jones
Heath
Frazier
Woods

Why can't both make it? There is a couple I would send to the streets before either of those two.

I would keep both White and Woods as part of a DB class that is supposed to be the best in a decade.

Frazier or Blanton.....even Carroll......can go kick rocks.
Carroll, if any of the young guys are even close to him, should be gone!

I'll disagree with Blanton being a "lock".

I've neither heard nor read any reports on him doing anything in practice.

He didn't stand out in the Hall of Fame fame.

And he's not among the starting units on special teams.

Unlike the rookies, he's also under contract for just one year.

I think he was a 'just in case' signing, and given the draft they had, 'just in case' is no longer needed.

I think there's $4 million n guaranteed money for him that keeps him safe. Same for the underachieving Cedric Thornton, his contract keeps a mediocre player on the team.

I think those 9 are locks. That leaves 1 spot for those 2.

I'm curious which you prefer?

Myself I think White is soft and we could really use Woods depth as a FS. OTOH I know Broaddus and others like White. He can cover.
who is the bloody hell is Blanton... have not seen anything on him.

White isn't really soft. He's just behind in learning how to play zone defense and his technique is off. I don't think he would be Ronnie Lott by any means, but it's more about positioning and angles with him. I think Woods has more versatility. However, this will all probably come down to special teams.

Totally agree. I don't think Blanton is a lock, I think he was primarily signed before the draft to be insurance for us missing a Safety with our picks.
I think Woods and White make the roster over Blanton, which isn't what I thought initially. I figured White for a Practice Squad guy but he has done better than I expected. He really needs a year in the weight room, but as a rookie he can play in some of the Dime packages where he will be far off the line of scrimmage. He can do that well and not be a liability in run support, and that assumes he isn't inactive as the 10th DB anyway.

I dont think all your nine locks, are locks. When push comes to shove, and all else is fairly equal, cheap rookie deals are mighty appealing.

White is still going to have to show a lot more to make the roster. I think they'd like to keep Woods just because Safeties in this scheme and our DB heavy packages, that can create turnovers, are a nice commodity.

I think Woods would have to be pretty terrible to get cut. He's the safest out of them. At this point, I think he's basically a lock.

I'm predicting a choice between White and Blanton. If it's a tough call I think the smart money is on White. Blanton is going to be 28 in a month. Youth, rookie contract, play into Whites favor.

Need to have players that progress in order to be stopped.
And I think we need to see all of these players a few more weeks before any of this is determined. Rather, Blanton, Woods, White, Frazier or any one else in the mix.
I would rather have a first-year player that hasn't done squat over a 50 or player that hasn't done squat.
