White or Woods

No need to make two mistakes for the same player. Bite the bullet and deal with it.

Thornton would be a $7 million "bullet". I think they're stuck with him this year. He gone in 2018. And I think Carroll likely is too. He got the "bridge player" deal that Brandon Carr turned down. $4 million guaranteed for essentially one season until the young guys are ready.

On over the cap they say Thornton had 6m guaranteed....last year's $1m salary and the $5m signing bonus. If he were cut now we would gain $3m in cap room this year and $4m the next two years. He did have $3m guaranteed for injury only and if we cut him I don't think we have any responsibility there. Where are you getting that he would be a $7m hit?

Not sure how it works when a contract is guaranteed for injury. I would think if he was a healthy cut it wouldn't count against the cap.

ALso if he were cut now, we could push the remaining 2.5m in signing bonus to next year, meaning no impact on this year's cap and a savings next year.

That question about the $3m guaranteed for injury can probably be answered by bkight, bluefin, xwalker of adamjt13.

Unless they changed the rules on cap in last few years but I don't think they have.

White isn't really soft. He's just behind in learning how to play zone defense and his technique is off. I don't think he would be Ronnie Lott by any means, but it's more about positioning and angles with him. I think Woods has more versatility. However, this will all probably come down to special teams.

He pulled up in pursuit to let someone else go first not once but twice. That is not technique but willingness.

That's not true I saw him on a wr bubble screen run up and make the tackle. Another time he came up to make the tackle and missed but the effort was there.......both times were single coverage and nobody else tackled but you can continue this soft campaign

I think someone said something because on the first series he was in he very much so was pulling up. I saw him throw later in the game.

I stand corrected on Blanton. I thought he had more guaranteed money but it/s only $160k. I think they would eat that.

They traded up for Woods I think he is a lock. Carroll has $3m guaranteed so he is here at least a year.

So it's likely 3 out of White, Woods, and Blanton. I still take Woods and Blanton.

Woods or White will not make it through waivers

Why wouldn't they? Every team has a Woods and White on their practice squad. This draft was full of secondary players. You guys did this last year with Darius Jackson. Nobody touched either one prior to the 6th round....I'm suppose to believe teams will fight for their services when a few months ago no one wanted to draft them?

Teams do sit around and wait for late round players they like that were taken ahead of them.

I mean, they all have crafty Will McClay's just waiting in the weeds to grab the next Irving.

All in all, young cheap talent matters. Especially in week one when teams want a body but won't pay a veteran.

Well, the coverage teams should tell you what is going on. You can pretty much assume that the "starters" make the team.

Punts coverages featured Heath, Awuzie and Frazier along with three LBers (Wilson, Wilbur, Nzeocha), two TEs (Hanna, Swaim), two backs (the Smiths).

The kickoff coverage had Byron Jones, Heath, Awuzie, Frazier and Nolan Carroll as the DBs.

If this indicates our starting ST units right now, it does not look good for Blanton.

They're likely to experiment with that early in the preseason so I'm not sure how much of an indicator it is right now. The next to the last preseason game I would expect the starting ST players to end up on the 53.

It is about as hard and fast of an indicator as you can get right now.

There might be one, at most two, spots open. And right now, Frazier has it over Blanton. And for a vet that costs more, that is not a good sign.

A lot of times people really underestimate how ST makes a difference in roster composition.

Jones Heath Frazier Blanton Awuzie Scandick Lewis Carroll Brown

I think those 9 are locks. That leaves 1 spot for those 2.

I'm curious which you prefer?

Myself I think White is soft and we could really use Woods depth as a FS. OTOH I know Broaddus and others like White. He can cover.
fuzzy-- OH man we gotta keep White and Woods....carroll and scandrick are 30 and over...lets go long this year in D backfield and keep 11

Remind everyone what happen when Dallas released Jackson last year thinking he would past waivers........ya I thought so.

I agree with you. Frazier has the spot over Blanton. From what I watched of Blanton he is only ahead of Showers and that is a stretch since Showers made a couple plays against Arizona.

Jones, Heath, Frazier and Woods are locks. If it comes down to White and Blanton then they will keep White and let Blanton go. He just hasn't looked good

I don't like White; he shied from contact when he came in. We have 5 corners already. We don't need to keep him.

Yeah between series on the sideline.
I disagree with you. I'm not saying something I think someone said. I seen White sticking his head in to tackle, I don't need to think I heard someone say it. Now you can stay with your line of thinking but I disagree and that's OK too. You have a great knowledge of the game but I think you have missed on White.

@Yakuza Rich

He did tend to be a 'pile inspector' in college.

I like the player, but he does avoid the dirty work on occasion. That won't last long with Marinelli.

Wade Phillips let Mike Jenkins get by with it and there's no going back if you don't break them of that behavior early on.

I rather have Blanton start and us stop hoping and wishing rainbows and gummie bears that Jeff Heath is going to pan out.CUT HEATH!!!...He is going to be a weak link and big plays will expose him as nothing more than a special teams player. Heath is great if you can let him sit back as the centerfielder in the dime package where he doesn't have to cover anyone... Keep both White & Woods but I already know this won't happen. We will have to go through watching Heath look like a bum this season.
