So 1/5 of the time you get a great game and 4/5 of the time you get a horrible game. Before the 1999 superbowl i really never liked watching the SB because it was always godawful boring.

you don't think the last 3 we've seen haven't been boring?

That's just the thing though, they WERENT fun to watch. Today's NFL is very relative.

That Cowboys/Seahawks game, while entertaining, was not good football, not even decent football. I miss the days of two heavyweights showing up with their best games and slugging it out for 60 minutes.

Do not mistake league-wide mediocrity and nail biting finishes for good football.

i didnt see a ton of flags and i didnt see a whole lot of botched assignments. i guess you dont like the college game either because those guys are clearly inferior to the talent in the NFL.

That might be part of it. I think we all fall victim to our frame of reference.

I hear you. Could you imagine how Staubach's numbers could have been even better had all the rule changes favoring the passing game been in place in his day? Just one example. Or how about had it not had to endure the late shots QB's took back then as defensive linemen came barrelling into them.

Then you just don't know football

1998

1969

That's 16 of 32 SBs before 1999 that were either exceptional games or Cowboys wins. So you're 4 out of every 5 sucked argument just got thrown out the window.

I love the college game because there is little parity. There are 20-25 programs who are on or near the top every year out of 117 total teams.

Oh dont start that i dont know football garbage. Its lame smack. i was simply going off what you said on how every 5 years a good game would come along not basing anything off my personal experience.

Yes, this past NFC title game was MUCH more entertaining than the one's from the pre-salary cap era

But the actualy quality of the football is just not there. im sorry but if you want to compare OSU-Michigan football with the old 49ers-Cowboys battles youre just kidding yourself. Sorry but there is a definite reason why gimmick offenses and defesnses work so well in the college game and not in the NFL. Nebraska being so dominant in the 80s and 90s with that primitive system they ran was a travesty.

You seem to think that because two teams defeated clearly inferior competition before facing each other that it defines greatness. I think exactly the opposite.

Funny. I had the privilege of watching every championship game from Super Bowl X through the Denver/Green Bay Super Bowl. Every single game was very entertaining to me because at least one team on the field during each Super Bowl had great rosters which played great games. Shoot, I even enjoyed the Commanders blowout of Denver.

I hate admitting that. :)

It was only during the Denver/Atlanta Super Bowl when my appreciation of the teams and how they played dropped. The only Super Bowl that noticably piqued my viewing pleasure since was the Patriots/Panthers Super Bowl, but not as much as I would have liked.

Because it's the way it's supposed to be

Is it fun to watch a cat catch and toy with a mouse, then eat it, knowing the mouse never had a chance? No, but it's the way the world is supposed to work.

And if you're a fan of said team, there is nothing more fun than watching a 66-3 beatdown IMO. As an A&M fan, watching a 45-0 pounding of Baylor or a 66-13 thrashing of SMU is very entertaining
