Who is switching to Windows 10?

Okay... I'll be away for a while. I'm playing with my new Win10. :D

Does someone have a link? My system says that they will tell me when it is ready in early August. I signed up on the waiting list over a couple months ago.

I got a notice to schedule the free upgrade, but I want to see what some of you say after you've downloaded before getting on the list.

I got tired of waiting, got some link from CNET and did it right away. Took about an hour and a half.

Okay, well I've been playing with Win10 for a few hrs. and it's really not bad. It changed some of the programs that open my image and music files but I easily remedied that. So far that's the only think I've found that I had to revert back to the way it was. Cortana and MS Edge are pretty cool new features.

You folks can be the guinea pigs; I'll wait six or eight months for the worst bugs to get fixed. It's going to be a freely available upgrade for a year. May snag a copy from one of my computer company friends and test it out on an old computer, but certainly not on any one that I'd depend on.

Eh... 10 looks flat like 8. I like modern design look but I really did not care for the Metro design within Windows 8. I'll stick with 7 as long as I can.

I've upgraded a few machines in the office and it went so well I upgraded my home PC last night. My initial review of W10: Awesome!

The upgrade process is really simple and easy. I've now done three machines and had almost no issues at all. The OS is faster that W7 and the interface is more user friendly. I believe non-tech folks will enjoy it while it still retains enough to make us professional techs happy.

The biggest hiccup I ran into was on my home PC. My Netgear A6210 wireless adapter wouldn't work. I had to completely uninstall it ... go through the registery and delete all mention of it ... let Windows install a basic driver which allowed it to connect on 2.4. Then I was able to install the official .30 Netgear driver and connect on the 5G.

The biggest hiccup at work is that the Sonicwall VPN software doesn't like W10 at all. I be looking for an update or looking for another VPN solution.

If games work on W7 they should work on W10. Last night I got ME 1, ME 2, ME 3, Skyrim, SWTOR, Witcher 3, Space Engineers, Civ 5, Dragon Age Inquistion ... all ran perfectly after the upgrade, many which include mods.

Microsoft has apparently gotten W10 right. It looks great, it runs great, and the upgrade process is very simple. You may run into a few issues with specific peripherals or software so be sure to test anything critical before. Oh, and as always ... back up your data first (though I had no issue with losing data).

Just an FYI. I was on the upgrade list also. But I went to windows update and checked details where I had a quite a few optional updates. I didn't even download all the 8.1 ones, just a couple for my hardware. After it booted it shortly said windows 10 had arrived and was ready to download.

Yeah, that's probably the notice I got. I just clicked close after a quick scan.

Only thing I want to know is how easy is it to get to Windows Explorer and is there a Start Menu. I just got used to Windows 8 after I installed that start widget thingy folks recommended.

I heard Windows 10 auto-update screws up your Nvidia drivers. (if you have an Nvidia card anyhow)

10.1.

I got an Nvida update installed on the 28th, I didn't read the description well, but it said something about preparing for Windows 10. I believe my 660 now has DIrectX12 from what I read elsewhere.

It doesn't really screw it up, it just doesn't install it. I had that happen on the two machines I upgraded with Nividia cards. You just have to reinstall the driver from Nividia and you're good to go. No big deal at all.
