As a matter of interest, has anyone ever switched from Mac to PC?

Yes, generally for business reasons. (software requirements)

I did. I went from Mac OS 7.x to Windows 98. Both of these computers still boot too. The Mac is 15 years old as of this past summer and the PC will turn 11 this November.

I have both... and both have their pros and cons...

That being said, if you are looking for quality of workmanship, go with the MAC...

Well "PC" isn't a manufacturer, there are PC's built with Mac quality, especially from boutique companies which is what Apple essentially has become.

I like the build of my macs but I don't really think it's a fair to throw a blanket over the other guys, especially since I've had my fair share of build issues with my Macs as well as my PCs.

It is what it is...

On the whole, MACS are of MUCH higher quality...

Does it make them a better machine? I don't know...

I'm just talking about initial quality... don't take it personal...

I'm not taking it personally at all, I just think there are many machines out there with quality equal to Apples. If you're talking what's prettier, then that's subjective but quality wise there is plenty to pick from in the PC world that is on par with anything Apple offers.

This is an opinion and not supported by any facts. Is it higher quality than say a eMachine, a low end Dell, HP, Acer PC? Yes. Is it higher quality than say a Dell Precision WS, HP Z series WS, or a Fujitsu notebooks, or some other high end PC? No, they aren't and there are absolutely ZERO facts to support that claim.

The problem with the perception of quality between PCs and Macs is that before Macs got popular again, there was a war of attrition among PC manufacturers that was started by Dell. Dell started under cutting the competition. Dell found a way to make PCs cheaper. That caused Gateway, HP, and all the others to find a way to build cheaper PCs to compete with Dell. As PCs got cheaper, so did the quality of the low end machines. Go to Dells website. Click on For Home, then Desktop PC. You will see Dell offering an Inspiron 546 starting at $269.

Now tell me, what kind of quality do you actually think you're going to get for $269? Have you ever seen a Mac for $269? Apple charges a premium for their products. That profit margin is far above any PC manufacturer. If you subtract that profit margin, the cost to create that Mac would still far exceed $269. Just as a side note, you would never be able to purchase that PC for $269 and have it actually be usable. You will have to tack on several add ons, which they expect. You can still get it for sub $500. A PC that is sub $500 is garbage.

I choose the cheapest Dell Precision workstation then spec it out to what I purchase for our company. (nothing special, no raid, 4GB, 160GB drive, DVD, no extra software like office) It was right at $1,600. A far cry from the $500 Inspiron and a hell of a lot more quality.

Anyone who claims Mac is a higher quality product than a PC is generalizing. It's like saying BMW is higher quality than "car". (no brand, no model, just a completely generalized statement)

I've always hated the term "fanboy" but it seems quite fitting with you.

You are sadly mistaken. I'm no fanboy, I'm straight up hater.

Hater might be a better description as he makes no bones about not liking apple.

However in the post you quoted, he was flat out dead on target.

There's nothing that can be said that you wouldn't have a problem with regarding apple. Maybe I'm mistaken about the term but isn't it the football equivalent of a homer?

Hater is when he hates everything about Apple.

A homer is if he loved everything about Apple.

No, the term homer isn't right either. I hate Apple because it's trying to mimic Microsoft whom I already have much hate for. I've hated Microsoft for a minimum of about 20 years. I liken my hate to Cris Carter hating the Cowboys. Not because he is a Viking, but just for the fact that he hates the Cowboys for who they are and what they do. I hate Apple because of Steve Jobs. I hate Steve Jobs because he is a wannabe Bill Gates. I hate Bill Gates because he took his monopoly and told his customers and business partners to **** off and accept what he offers or else.

Think Lando Calrissian in Starwars - The Empire Strikes Back when dealing with Darth Vader. Darth Vader changed the terms of their agreement. Lando brought it up and Darth Vader responded. "Yes, I changed it. Pray I don't change it again."

Yes, I hate Apple, but you're wrong if you think I have some love for Windows PCs. I'm a Linux guy, but just as I bash Apple due to the limits you have with them, I own a WindowsXP PC along with my Linux boxes. Why? Because there are just some things I cannot do in Linux that I can in Windows. Quickbooks being one of them. It's something that I haven't found a match for in Linux, even though Linux has bookkeeping options. They just don't match what Quickbooks does for me.

In the argument about why there are no viruses on Macs, I think a big issue that is lost is who cares why.

Seriously, who cares why? Not having any viruses because no one sees it as a good use of time is just the same as not having any viruses because they can't make them. At least it is to me. Not having to deal with viruses either way is a plus in my book.

One thing I have always wanted to ask when someone says there aren't enough uses to infect:

Why is infection number every single hacker's primary concern?

With as heated as some people get in this issue isn't there at least a couple of guys who want to write a virus for Macs just to piss off the Mac community?

This is where people like you lose any base in reality. If MAC became the most used OS instead of Microsoft guess what happens.Oh yea they start getting hacked. Oh guess who is having issues with hacks on phones that is right the IPHone is a prime target for getting hacked because it has a large foot print and guess what they are out there.

You want to know why hackers want large foot print two reasons.

1st is the money aspect they are hacking to try and steal something large foot print gives greater chance of success.

2nd Ego oh I took down 2000 macs yay i am so great; I am the the greatest hacker in the world or Hey I took down 200,000 computers in the world with my hack.

See it is simple

Exactly, Apple wants the uninformed to believe it's impossible to hack a Mac. It's all about market share. If they were to ever gain that from Microsoft, which I highly doubt, the Mac will be the hackers choice.

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
