Who uses a mac?

Cost me $1000 new. Certainly not top of the line, but not cheap either. It was an HP.

They do in fact tell you. When you say., "How much is this laptop" and they respond with $499-$999. Well, they are basically saying, "You're getting a piece of **** with a monitor for $499-$999".

Quality isn't free. It cost more to make. ...it just doesn't cost as much as Apple charges.

I paid like $1450.00 for it. Same price I paid for my iMac after bumping up the ram and extending the coverage for 3 years.

If you changed the motherboard twice and it is still doing it...not to be sarcastic but guess what...probably not a motherboard issue.

I would say the chipset is bad and/or your fan is overheating then shutting off. That is just a guess as I can not examine the computer myself but that would be a good guess seeing the motherboard has been changed twice and you are still having the issue.

I would have to guess the HD has been reformatted somewhere along the way, and if so it would not be a software issue.

But as I have stated before, I don't mess with laptops so I don't know how many fans a typical laptop contains. I know a desktop will normally have three and if the case or cpu fan starts going bad it will shut your puter down when it starts to overheat. I don't think the fan in the power supply does that or at least I have never had that problem before.

And since I don't know much about laptops, it could be that the Apple laptops are superior to many PC ones as well.

I just don't think apple desktops are any better for someone that knows enough about computers to keep them running well.

Windows took a huge fall when they released Vista, I beta tested (and am currently using) the new Windows 7 OS coming out in October and it was 100X better than Vista.

IMO, it isn't worth the extra coin to spend on a Mac if you can do what you want on a PC.

I already have a released version yay me and being an IT guy at work running it on a desktop at work ripped off that media player garbage yay

Most the time I find a good can od compressed air in the slots on the side takes care of that. That is any brand

That or you have a short from something touching that is not suppose to

I should have been more clear. After 6 months the mb went out. I replaced it and it worked fine for a while. Then it broke again. I changed the motherboard again and it worked for a week. Then..... You guessed it. It's broke. I just won't put any more money into it because I've had other issues as well and at some point you just have to say enough is enough.

I have no idea why some people think it's an I D 10 t user problem when the damn thing won't stay on.

If your motherboard failed twice, I'm betting your problem is the case. Either that, or your one dirty mother****er! :laugh2:

Sometimes when a computer won't stay on it is BECAUSE OF an ID10T error.

Im a tech at a school board and work with both PC's and Mac's

We go thru this same debate.....

It comes down to user needs.....and what they are willing to pay and how much knowledge they have about computers.

In the elem schools we run pretty close to all the same apps on both platforms. The PC's break down more....but are easy to fix. Fewer Macs breakdown but when they do....its expesive to fix.

We have never experienced a virus with a Mac....and that cannot be said with PC's.

But again it comes down to your preference.

For me....for users that have very little knowledge about comps.....you cant go wrong with a mac. No blue screen of death.....no maleware..viruses (yet) ....the maintenance is minimal.....and alot of users nowadays ...thats all they want.

If your into gaming.....and you want a computer to have the ability to easily upgrade....more software.....etc....and you have some knowledge about computers and dont mind giving it some tlc every once in awhile then the pc is great and cheaper.

You can probably buy two mid level PC's laptops for the price of the Mac laptop......My Girlfriend ended up getting a PC......my nephew bought the Mac.....its all about preferences....

When a hacker writes a virus they are going for foot print the more there are the better chance the virus will work on a PC will be unprotected. Seriously, who cares why? Not having any viruses because no one sees it as a good use of time is just the same as not having any viruses because they can't make them. At least it is to me. Not having to deal with viruses either way is a plus in my book.

One thing I have always wanted to ask when someone says there aren't enough uses to infect:

Why is infection number every single hacker's primary concern?

With as heated as some people get in this issue isn't there at least a couple of guys who want to write a virus for Macs just to piss off the Mac community?

Im just giving my opinion about my experience with both.

like I mentioned before......its a preference......I have the die hard mac users and I have the die hard pc users.

each has their advantages.

Concerning viruses......if the "hackers" dont want to waste time writing viruses for mac's.......isnt that a advantage to the user that buys a mac?

and isnt that what the op was about.......whats easier and more reliable?

I have imac and pc tower....and i have a newer ibook with dual boot......love them all...and I use each one about the same amount at work.

Its all about the user IMHO........and what you want to do and how much money you want to spend.

I want no part of this discussion, but I just want to throw my 2 cents on something.

Almost all of the televison shows and movies you watch are edited with an Avid setup of some sort. Almost all of those editors use PC's. Avid works great with both, and most production houses use pc's.

I use avid media composer, photoshop, after effects, boris red and I have a PC.

I wants me that! I could have done a much better job with my edit of Transformers.

I've always said I'd like to see the profit margins of symantec/norton and mcafee before and after a virus outbreak. I wouldn't doubt one bit if they were funding the hackers in some way.

No, I'm saying all the significant viruses you see are not aimed at destroying your computer or doing something silly, they are aimed at turning it into a zombie and that works best when you don't notice. They want your info and they want to use your computer as a zombie in their network to send out spam and spread other viruses and launch various cyber attacks.

The anti-virus companies don't need to do this themselves, too many silly people out there that don't even think to keep their security patches up to date and what not and these things just keep going around.

I switched from PC to Mac about four or five years ago and I've never had any regrets.

As a matter of interest, has anyone ever switched from Mac to PC?
