Why are people acting like getting Lee back is a "bonus"?

How can it not be a bonus? When he's healthy he's a top 5 lb. Along with a second year and full offseason for Lawrence and Hitchens and possibly adding Hardy, I would expect this defense to be at least a tad bit better. I'm welcoming back General Lee with open arms

I don't really understand. He hasn't played a complete season since at least his sophomore year in college, maybe longer. I keep reading in threads and twitter posts how great it will be to see him on the field, like he is some sleeper player. At this point, it's time to call a spade a spade and realize he just isn't going to be on the field late in the season. I hate to write him off, but without some serious depth at the linebacker position, it is hard to just pencil him in and say we're good to go.

He has had some freak injuries... Hopefully they are in the past.

The problem with Carter is that he was behind Lee and Hitchens on the depth chart and the 3rd LB only plays about 50% of the snaps. In weeks 12 though 16 Hitchens started and Carter didn't.

I didnt see how due to the fact we really didnt have any LB's at that time. I still think Carter is the better option base on who we have now.

I'm not sure if I understand this reply. Carter definitely did not start in weeks 12 though 16 while Hitchens definitely did start in weeks 12 though 16. Carter did start in week 17 when RoMc was out.

He still show up and made plays he was there in the playoffs too, unlike our other 2 LBs.

cause he didn't play last year. Your basically adding an all pro LB. So you lose Carter and Durant and add Lee. Some would consider that a win without signing anyone.

My point is that they project Lee and Hitchens to be the top 2 LBs if RoMc is not re-signed. Carter would be #3. Lee and Hitchens project to being the Nickel LBs which is about 50% of the snaps. That means that they would have had to pay Carter 5M per to play 50% of the snaps.

My guess is the Carter probably didn't want to re-sign with Dallas anyway. The fact that they started a rookie over him probably didn't make him happy.

ignoring a players injury history is just plain dumb.

There's no need for this animosity toward other users. And it will not be tolerated. One suggestion might be 'I don't think ignoring a player's injury history is wise'.

When Lee is on the field he is a difference maker, and his contract is setup such that he is not highly expensive. He shares some of the risk on his injury history.

So, long and short of it, anytime you get him it is a bonus. Not to say we don't think about some LB depth this draft again.

At some point, like the one atop mein head, you half to ax yourself "When is the Lee experiment going to be over?"
Overrated and never a consistent contributor. And his arm tackling need work. More work than Reba McIntire would need in acting school.

Mainly because he was not there last year. Here's the math. LB + LB + LB = acceptable
Lee + McLain + Hitchens = Bonus!

When the contract becomes less valuable to the team then the return on investment. Short answer.

You obviously don't watch him play when he's healthy. There is nothing in his game that is overrated. His instincts against the run and the pass are top notch. Don't berate his talent because of his injury history.

And it took DeMarco Murray a couple years to play a full season. Glad they didn't cut that experiment short eh?

I did watch him when he was healthy, which was not often let me tell you. boy howdy, I recall seeing RBs run past him and him reaching out to arm tackle and be left in the dust. I say let him go home to sign with Pittsburgh or the Eagles, his time be up here.

And to compare Murray's contributions to Lee is absurd, dfense.
Murray last year got 1,800 yards. Lee got 1,800 tackles in his John Madden game. :)

brave talk on Lee still beink here. Training camp half not even started.

That's true. I suppose that if Lee is cut, then we will know the answer but my own personal opinion, I wouldn't bet on that if I were betting with your money. Just don't see it GTB.
